The Doug Haas era @ Wooster

Just the size of the program lets them field a whole team with kids at proper positions. Many smaller programs do a bit of tweaking the starting 11 to field a competitive team. It is when the classes mix in High School that the Red Riders have proven their worth the past six years. That's when it counts. The same thing can be said for JV teams.

I agree with this. And what has been missing is the cohesiveness through out the program. Wooster has been losing quality athletes in the program as they get older. I believe that will come to an end with the new staff in place.

In the spirit of the rivalry...I hope you are correct.

I am confident you will see an improved Wooster team this fall with a better attitude and level of dedication. I won't speculate to what degree these things will improve but I am sure they will.

Does anyone know what the score of the Woo-Orr JV game was last year?

    Wooster 26 Orrville 14

Comparing any level's results to varsity results makes no sense.

    Thank you, kemo-sabi.

Agreed - but it should be one indicator of things to come. I do agree Orrville has done a much better job of moving the kids along at the varsity level, I am sure there are a number of factors contributing to this, just hopeful that the tide will turn.

A JV game has absolutely no bearing on the future at all.

I witnessed jv games in the last few years in which Wooster took it to us. I learned that it doesn't matter.

JV games our meant to give kids minutes and playing time that they did not get on Friday...winning the game is secondary.

Tell the kids who play on saturday morning that. They care more about winning than some kids on friday nights. These kids work just as hard as varsity kids and deserve more credit than statements like this.

I agree with scarface, these games mean the world to some kids and they play their hearts out. Even coaches take a lot of pride in winning JV games and coach to have a winning record. But I also think that you guys are right when you say that JV games and scores do not have much bearing on the following season!

My comments related to junior varsity football were only about the games not being a predictor of results at the varsity level. Players at that level play their butts off.

This is what it has come to we are talking about JV games. Lets see many times Frehman are playing these games and some of the ones that could be playing on Saturdays are not because they played friday. JV games are not good indicators. However, I do think 7th, 8th, and 9th can give some indicators but only if you look at two or three classes at a time.

I saw coach Haas last weekend at another sporting event, he was wearing a "Beat Orrville" shirt, I think he gets the rivalry.

I spoke with a football player at this same event, he described Coach Haas as, "the real deal." And said he had been attending daily lifting sessions, which seem much more focused this offseason.

Any news on the coaching staff for next year?

Nothing offical yet, but I will snoop around and see what I can find out.
  • scarface1
A few of the same guys involved as last with a couple of new coaches added.
  • pac_champ77
Defense will head in a new direction from what it has been for the last few years, new coaches involved.

Coach McCreary sent me this picture and said that he is enjoying this time away from football! Notice he is still wearing those blue crocs!

Rider, that picture was taken the morning of the Wooster/Orrville game last year...
