  your former AD knew about tradition...she was from Orrville. A program can not turn a corner that fast. I do believe you are on the way, but I think there is a ton of work to do with getting parents under control. Support is great but we will see how long it lasts.

  From now until late August...hope springs eternal for about every HS football program in the country.
  
  I'm sure the local paper will breathlessly trot out the "Wooster is Back" article as soon as humanly possible, it's probably already in the can....but their first 4 games are against Garfield, Wadsworth, Chagrin Falls and Ashland. You could make a strong case for 1-3 or even 0-4. 3 of those 4 games are home, so that's the only saving grace. Each of those first 4 will heartily prepare the Generals for the final 6 though.
  
  Generals could run the table in their last 6, Orrville included....but getting off to a 2-2 start, or better, would really get the hype machine rolling.

  One of the first things I'd be doing if (when) I were on the Blue & Gold Touchdown Club, would be to assemble a reunion of the 1986 Final Four team for the season opener in August. It's absolutely ludicrous that they didn't bring them back last season for a 25th Anniversary celebration. They've only had a page in every Wooster sports program ever since that season. I would love for some of those guys to talk to the kids about how involved the Wooster community was back then and to pass along some wisdom and encouragement.

  This doesn't happen? Goodness...that's a yearly occurance during Wooster week here in Orrville. I guess that's very telling and why we talk about tradition so much...because it's real, and not something you can manufacture.

  RR1 - No, to my knowledge, it doesn't happen. The comment in The Daily Record about "Wooster has developed a reputation as a town where high school football isn't that important," couldn't be more true. That doesn't mean that there isn't a bunch of people over here who still have that fire to get things back on track. I hope the Blue & Gold TD Club and a renewed interest by the community to get us back where we need to be to support these kids and the team the way they deserve.

  Let me be more specific, turning the corner and turning the program around are two different things. I do think the excitement that last night's practice generated is the first step thus turning the corner. If this event were held last season, a handful of people would have shown up (I know simply because the band wasn't scheduled to play), not the large group of cusrious spectators that visited Follis last night. This program is moving in a different diection now.

  Interstingly enough, not many parents really cared for the previous AD. She was, right or worng, viewed as the enemy. Now the new AD has endeared himself to the parents. Surely not the previous AD's fault, but she never connected with the masses over here, and replacing every other varsity coach BUT McCreary certainly didn't help her popularity in the 44691.

  Sadly, yes some of those typical traditions over here have gone by the wayside, simply because of the amount of red tape required to make them happen and the apathy of the previous regime. I look for that to be one of the things that changes right away.
  
  Here's an example, my oldest son garduated from Wooster and plays another sport at the college level. Last summer he was not permitted to use the weight training facility with the current HS team. Are you kidding me? What program wouldn't want an alumni playing at the next level to come back and work out with the current team? Those kind of things need to change right away, and they are.

  The previous AD's personality...........let's just say she's not a people person.
  
  Andy has been excellent to work with so far.
  
  As far as alumni working out...I imagine there may be some liability issues. But a signed waiver and a token fee should handle that. Obviously young people need role models to show them the way.

  Wooster doesn't control anything this year. Madison will be tough Mansfield will be tough Ashland will be tough . Clearfork is always tough along with lex . And west Holmes also will be tough

  I think that the OCC will be as balanced as it has ever been. Especially with both Mansfield schools turning their programs back to where they used to be. W.Holmes will be tough, Wooster will be recharged under Haas, Ashland will reload, Orrville should be OK...it should be a fun year for the OCC!

  So this is how I seeing it shape up.
  
  1. Madison. -Has a big oline, a better qb, and better leaders overall this year
  2. Ashland- always reloads , but I don't think they have a great reciever like last year
  3. Wooster- always has some of the best athletes, with new coach who knows
  4. W Holmes- has a good team coming back but they under achieved
  5. Mansfield- has good athletes and qb but lacks a oline
  6. Clearfork- lost fields and pollard . Might be down
  7. Orrville- will go 4-6 at best. Little down
  8. Lexington- back to the days of being down for awhile

  I don't totally disagree with this order. Orrville is always a wild card and could finish higher than 7th, but we will see, they claim they are due for a "down year".

  You're not going to get any Orrville fan to agree that we're going to finish 4-6 and last in league.
  
  Sure we'll be down..we lost 2 D-1 recruits and a 3rd going to Ashland and 4 other seniors that will play ball in college. That's 7 seniors that will play at the next level..you don't lose that much & not miss a beat.
  
  Our cupboard is never bare & I think these are the Orrville teams that come together as a unit & surprise people. I think the OCC will be wide open.

  Not a people person but IMO... That school needed someone who doesn't play to the parents every desire. That is a major issue there. But that is just the opinion of an outsider who was once involved with a Wooster program. I think it was a mistake to let her go. I guess we'll see because this hire of Haas will be the measuring stick of this A.D.'s time at Wooster unless an unforeseen issue occurs

  If Wooster Basketball doesn't have a successful season, there are going to be some very angry people in Wooster. I know that for a fact. There is a lot of pressure on all of the coaches. It is a good type of pressure to have though because it comes from having players to work with like Cam Daugherty and Marquise Blair.
