It matters.
We won 8 last year...and 1 this year. What changed?
There is no doubt we were less talented than last year. No doubt! The fact that this team went 1-9 for the first time in 39 years and nobody other than 3 people on here are questioning the coach??? That is laughable! Nothing has changed you are right. Nothing since he took over. He won only 8 games last year with a very talented team. He hasnt changed anything! That's my point. It all starts at the top and he didnt get it done this year. So again the burning question is if we repeat this the next 2-3 years what will you say then? Still less talented right???
So lets recap:
Loses to a WCAL team in November of 2011- They go on to win their first state title
Loses to Triway in August 2012 - First nite on turf
August -October - Loses all games on turf field
October 2012 - Loses to Wooster by 4 touchdowns
Finishes with a 1-9 record. The worst since 1973!
Hmmmm sounds like we got a good one with Davault! I am sure you will counter with all the wins as I know you have to keep it positive. I get it! -
Red Rider Nationrrfan;1307048 wrote:Yes Wooster was more talented than us and yes so were the bobcats last year. Just because we sent a few kids to big schools the last couple of years does not mean we had a bunch of talent. If anything you need to give the coach some credit for helping these kids move on to College. Open your eyes man!
We werent talented last year??? All the credit goes to those kids for working their tail off! DOnt credit Davault for that! -

I understand your talent level comment but you're running game, is way off. This team averages four to five yards a carry,Theoretically they should be better next year. They have the talent to be a good option football team. As I said before I don't believe the coaches have the Ability to install such an offense though. When we moved the ball this year it was on the ground......Provided we have a decent offensive line next year of course.rrfan;1307014 wrote:When are people going to actually look at the talent level? What do you expect Orrville to be the next few years? The Middle School team did not win a game right? Well then I think you see there is a huge lack in talent coming. It is going to be ugly for a while...
Also about changing the offense, I don't see how that helps. Why, so we can run it three times and punt? That just means you loose 21-7 instead of 34-7. -

Yes we had talent last year and Norwayne had more. We were playing our Best WR at QB enough said.Red Rider Nation;1307050 wrote:We werent talented last year??? All the credit goes to those kids for working their tail off! DOnt credit Davault for that! -

And where would this "decent offensive line" for the power running game come from??? Who is going to run the option? B. Short has athletic ability IN SPACE but he will not last running the option. IMO.Troll King;1307053 wrote:I understand your talent level comment but you're running game, is way off. This team averages four to five yards a carry,Theoretically they should be better next year. OQB
That's where I'm confused....What offense do we run with the players we have?? We don't have the personnel to run the spread. We don't have the personnel to run the power I/smashmouth football. We don't have a big enough QB to run the option with an entire season.rrfan;1307064 wrote:And where would this "decent offensive line" for the power running game come from??? I think the option would be the best....but would Bryce be able to take the beating the entire year. -
rrfanOQB- we are saying the same thing. I am not against change, but what is the change? When you don't have talent what do you do? I want to be clear saying that I don't thing B Short can take the beating of the option is not at all negative to Short. I want to see him on the field the whole season. The Option offense will have him hurt before week 2.

Old RiderI don't know the correct fix on offense either, just would like to see us do some things differently. For starters though, we have to stop zone blocking! We need to get back to creating angles, pulling lineman, cutting legs, and giving our out-sized lineman a chance to use their speed to our advantage.
The other proposition is to sit down with the execs from The JM Smucker Company and have them begin to fill all those job openings with people that WANT to move to this town. We have lost A LOT of blue collar jobs in Orrville and people simply are choosing NOT to live here! Offer some sort of incentives to your employees who choose to lay their roots down in this town. We have these brand new schools and top-notch athletic facilities, yet families are not moving in, buying homes, or building new homes! There is nothing in this town that attracts young families or new couples to call Orrville home...
I know that sounds like I just pointed the finger at Smucker's for our 1-9 season and I by no means am trying to blame them...but I just figured new families with kids...kids that are good athletes...good athletes that want to play here in Orrville...wishful thinking I guess! LOL! -
rrfanOld Rider, I like the idea on Smuckers just not sure how that would work. I do know that I pass a ton of people driving into town as I am driving out in the morning and I know most of them are going to Smuckers. I would love to see Orrville grow again...what more could you want from a small town?
-
RedRider1The schools/facilities are top notch...but there's nothing for a young family to do here. Town is empty at 8pm.
No trails/paths for active families, no downtown hangouts...just nothing unique about living in Orrville. Low crime rate and affordable cost of living are about all we have going.
Good schools are only part of the equation that make our town attractive. Where's the new housing? The ones that are here aren't being bought & built...so that's very telling.
We've built more condos (for older residents with no kids or grown kids) and apartments than anything else lately. Neither contribute positively to a growing/thriving community. -

Unfortunately, its not IF....we will NOT win more than 2-3 games in any of the next 4-5 seasons!!!...or longerRed Rider Nation;1306321 wrote:If this team goes 1-9 or 0-10 the next 2 seasons what then will you say about Davault? Serious question. -

now if I would've mentioned the wide receiver playing quarterback I would've been accused of bashing the quarterback. that in itself should speak volumes on the ability of the quarterback we had. the coach didn't have enough faith in him so he played a wide receiver at quarterback in the most important game of the year. Devault should've played Kyle at quarterback and moved Brenner back to wide receiver. That would've given us another weapon against Norwayne. Devault chose to not even play our regular quarterback .Once again just another in a long line of things that make you scratch your head. Then he doesn't even get to finish the last game of his high school career. In a game we were not going to win anyways . you are absolutely correct , enough said !rrfan;1307062 wrote:Yes we had talent last year and Norwayne had more. Did I say power running game ? No I believe I said option . You don't have to have a huge line to be a successful option team !rrfan;1307064 wrote:And where would this "decent offensive line" for the power running game come from??? 5knotsOn a brighter note...... Even though Chase didn't see any action Saturday it was still surreal to see he and Mason talking at midfield after the game. On a funny note.... At halftime the refs were keeping Illinois from crossing to their locker room until Indiana passed them. Chase was about the last one and before he went past Mason started across and popped him one with his shoulder pads. The ref almost threw a flag on him!! He chewed Mason out a bit. Chase looked back and I'm sure was laughing. It was hilarious.

No doubt about it. I had the pleasure of going to the Dover/new Philly game on Friday. WOW what a game and atmosphere! The 50/50 was $4200.00 Good stuff. My point though is I have a good friend that follow Dover and he and several others told me Friday night that this is one of their least talented teams ever. They are hosting a playoff game this weekend. They have a system down there. They have an offense that works with athletes NO better then orrville has. Size? About the same. Speed? The same. Strength? The same. Coaching? NO comparison! Its happening in other towns guys! They have a system that works! Just ask NORWAYNE!Old Rider;1307442 wrote:Unfortunately, its not IF....we will NOT win more than 2-3 games in any of the next 4-5 seasons!!!...or longer -
CCRollyYeah, I'm sure Dover and Orrville's team talent is pretty much on Par there.

RRN you have completely lost all credibility in this discussion. Same size, speed and strength as Dover? Are you serious? And are you implying that we essentially have the same talent as Norwayne, that if only we had Joe Harbour as our coach this year we would be in the playoffs?? Really? Tell me you are just still angry about the season, and are not thinking rationally at this point. Look at what you stated. We do NOT have the size, speed, strength or talent of Dover or Norwayne. Please argue with passion, but look at what you are saying prior to posting. -

RedRider1I think that is the argument being made...that if Joe Harbour was our coach, that we'd be the reigning state champ and sitting at 10-0 right now.
Cuz he'd install discipline...and that's all a team needs. Talent-schmalent, right? -

This argument is over. I wont change your mind and you wont change mine. There should be some changes on this staff for sure. Some guys on this sideline are just taking up space. Keep Davault but some of these guys need to find a different hobby. Out of respect I will not drop names on here but I think you guys would have to agree that some of these guys are just there to be there. Maybe mix in some non-Orrville guys to join this staff and see where it goes. Bottom line is if we change nothing the result will be the same. We can all agree the talent isnt great but get some guys in here who can get the best out of what you have and work with these boys otherwise we can all sit around in Orrville and complain about talent-schmalent, right? That's not gonna get it done either! -

RedRider1Easy as pie...bring in some new coaches from outside of town. With no guarantee of a position in the school system or any other employer in town, and the pittance of an assistant coaches pay.
I'm sure the line will be out the door.
The more likely situation is some younger coaches already in the system be encouraged to seek out some coaching clinics to develop themselves and bring them into the fold as some of the older coaches begin to transition out.
Like any business...having a succession plan is vital to long term success.
