Orrville Red Rider Football 2012

Red RiderIt is impressive that we have so many recent grads playing college ball at high levels, but can any team match what the 84-85 Riders had on the field?
QB Tom Bolyard OSU/Indiana...made it to NFL briefly
Center: Thomas Moore OSU
FB/LB: Jack Leeder Ohio U
RB: Keith Denson Tennessee
WR: James Bradley Michigan State...made it to NFL/CFL briefly
DT: Mike Hallett Kent State
TE: Mark Auble Miami of Ohio
Also on that team, Roger Davidoff, Keith Amstutz, Gary DeHart, etc. all would be stellar players on any other RR team.
There are probably more that we're on that field, but those are the ones I recall. Wow was that era awesome! -
RedRider1Orrville volleyball wins districts. Swept Dalton in 3 games. On to Barberton regional next Thursday.

It doesn't get talked about too much, but "Mummy" was a 4 year letterman, which, of course, is very rare.Red Rider;1304500 wrote:

played against most of those guys, that was one talented group of guys I know they ruined playoff dreams for at least two Wooster squads then.Red Rider;1304500 wrote:It is impressive that we have so many recent grads playing college ball at high levels, but can any team match what the 84-85 Riders had on the field?

...and NO state titles!! Having only A and AA classes made it hard to even make the playoffs, let alone when you did make it you had to play a school much larger than us!Red Rider;1304500 wrote:It is impressive that we have so many recent grads playing college ball at high levels, but can any team match what the 84-85 Riders had on the field?

Perhaps if the coach were willing to play the kids on the sidelines, alas he could have captured the title.
He didn't, hence the loss.
LOL. -
CCRollyLooks like the weather is going to match the two teams performances from this year tomorrow night. Hoping for a good, hard fought game and a Wooster win of course. If that happens, I'm not even looking at this thread for at least 2-3 months! Go Woo!

If I have the right year Berry and Mark Tillison, and Two pretty darn good Guards Brad Booth and Scott Zacharias. What a joy as a freshman and sophomore to play scout defense. If I am correct Mark Tillison had a banged up knee that year. I might be a year to late on Berry, Brad, And Scott. -
thePITmanHow many Orrville fans are going to another game tonight since you don't play until tomorrow?

RIDER DAD
Lots of Doings in the vile tonight, parade, burn the general, and booster club party after all that. I sure there will be some that take advantage to catch another game.thePITman;1304735 wrote:How many Orrville fans are going to another game tonight since you don't play until tomorrow?

rrfanI am sure we have to be polite as we burn the general so that nobody gets offended...thats another topic for another day I guess.

Red RiderThat is correct, Barry and Mark Tillison were on those teams too. Mark had knee problems and never was able to reach his full potential. Zacharias was a starting LB and crashed his Trans Am and broke his arm right before the state championship game. Brad Booth was also a key player. As I said the amount of talent on that team was ridiculous. Dana Coppa was on the team too...and well, he was just plain crazy! I'm sure Ron has all the films of that team..you watch those teams and you realize the teams in recent years would never be able to compete with the talent out there position by position.

Right! That dummy should still be hung from the clock at the square...but that was offensive and so it was stopped. Now we lay it in a wooden casket outside the former Seifrieds Drug Store...:thumbdown:rrfan;1304858 wrote:I am sure we have to be polite as we burn the general so that nobody gets offended...thats another topic for another day I guess. -

They otta pee on it then drag it behind an old tractor through the city! LOL, Just kidding. They don't hang it from the clock sign anymore??? I like the idea of a casket....but do the players get to pee on it??? That would be the best! LOLOLOL, again just kidding! I remember EVERYONE in the truck every single year waiting on coach to start the chant "I don't know but I've been told...chicken $%^&$ is blue and gold"!Right! That dummy should still be hung from the clock at the square...but that was offensive and so it was stopped. Now we lay it in a wooden casket outside the former Seifrieds Drug Store...
Good luck for a safe and hard hitting game on both sides for both teams with an Orrville win. I think both sets of fans deserve a good show!
Go Riders!! -
Old RiderSanitizer...I don't think they sing that song anymore either because it has foul language in it. How dare we let our kids sing such a song littered with filthy words!
Kind of like the Character Education stuff...I am all for building kids with good character and the program is great, but sometimes the best way to build character is to let two kids hash it out behind the school..or in someones back yard...tends to make the kids tough...
....I know thats how Sanitizer and myself grew up over there near Oak Street School. Beaver Street, Markley Avenue, Fike Ave, LeNore...character was taught early! LOL! -

Amen Brother! It was a sad day when that stopped. I do like the idea of letting the team pee on it!Old Rider;1304874 wrote:Right! Yeah the south side, I grew up at 843 Beaver. If Sanitizer is who I think it is he lived right next door.Old Rider;1304928 wrote:Sanitizer...I don't think they sing that song anymore either because it has foul language in it. How dare we let our kids sing such a song littered with filthy words!
