Orrville Red Rider Football 2012

Indeed....and to do whatever is needed to make sure 1-9 or 2-8 is just a blip...and not the new normal.

I do fear our community isn't like it was in the 80's & 90's, and that we're slowly starting to see the effects of what other communities have dealt with and it's slowly creeping into our little burg.

Did anyone read that article in the paper last week about a group of townspeople not happy with what the local economic development bodies are doing for the town? Article mentioned a near 50% rate of kids in our schools receiving free/reduced lunch and the rise of rental properties in town over the last decade. Didn't used to be that way. People worked here, lived here, had kids here and died here. That sense of "town" isn't what it once was, IMO.

Now does that directly impact academics/athletics? Not sure...but I bet it's not helping...and it's something that coaches or teachers alone can't prevent from happenning.

Those sure are some detailed stats by the way.

Where O where did you ever find that interesting look back into history? Surely some self-aggrandizing "blogger" guy looking to pat himself on the back.
I bet Devault will not be able to say the same. Hate to say this but i believe the next 2 seasons will also be losing ones. JUST MY OPINION !

I think it's important to realize just how unique Orrville football is. The fact that we won't accept a losing season (not that we should accept it)even if it happens once every blue moon....shows how passionate and demanding we are as fans. 6-4 is unacceptable and considered a losing season in Orrville, and to be 1-8 makes it even harder to accept....but that doesn't mean we need a complete program overhaul. Should we run something other than the spread...sure, do we need to be more disciplined...sure, do we need to call plays better, sure. It's important that we step back and look at the bigger picture sometimes to realize how special Orrville Red Rider Football is.
Every sure you just answered with is exactly why i question this coaches ability.

You're absolutely right...1 bad year out of the last 10...and the sky is falling? Hardly. Most programs would take that in a heartbeat of a heartbeat. But that's Orrville...bar is always high.
Your right one bad year out of last ten. However he has proved he cannot win without a bunch of D1 College talent. Clearfork are you serious, that team was horrible especially on defense. If coach would have kept it on the ground we probably would have won. We know that won't happen though because of his fixation on his version of the spread he is forcing the team to run.

Ok RR1 open season on Trolls, fire away.

Self-aggrandizing "blogger" living vicariously through high schoolers! There's nothing wrong with it! Whatever floats your boat! Don't be ashamed to admit it! So go on, pat yourself on the back, nothing new either!

The folks who tell me they appreciate what I do...unsolicited...is all the pats I need. It's not why I do the site though.

I do it for the people that are no longer in Orrville but want to keep updated on things. Had a soldier in Iraq who was an OHS grad tell me that my site helped keep him updated on the boys basketball team when they went to state a few years ago.....talk about humbling.

    Troll,
Not going to fire away...you stated your opinion...I'll state mine. About 2013, we'll see...got some talent coming back..but it will take top to bottom commitment in the off season and a drive to rinse the taste of a 1 or 2 win season away.

In speaking with a variety of coaches there is a lot of concern about the talent pool in all sports for the foreseeable future. The basketball team is expected to be shaky this year and I hear that there wont even be a freshman team. The baseball team might have 1-2 seasons to make a run, then it is death valley again.

...and for those saying the coach can't win without D-1 talent, please tell me when we have had a successful season over the past 25 years without a single D-1 level player on the field, because it is certainly rare that we don't have at least a few on the roster. Follow up that with naming 1 blue chip D1 player on this roster. It isn't the kids fault, it isn't the coaches' fault, we've just run out of talent here for awhile. It happens.

Remember this, we've won exactly one state title. A lot of teams tried before that title and a lot have tried since. Some teams had NFL level talent (Bolyard and Bradley in the 80's), some had major college talent ( too many to list), but didn't get it done. Jeez, with all the talent that existed in the 80's this group of critics would have been calling for Mo's head if he didn't have multiple state titles. It takes talent and some luck and right now we are out of both. Blame whoever you want.

RR1 dont listen to a word of this stuff keep it up heck i'm from Wooster, find your facts very interesting. If you can help the alumni keep up to date with things definitely worth it. With that being said GO WOO BEAT ORRVILLE (finally) lol

Don't worry...I don't let it bug me. The next second of sleep I lose based on what some have to say about my site will be the first.

And I know some of the guys who giggle at it lately have told me privately that they like what I do, so I know what they truly think. Like I said before...easy to pile on now that things aren't going so hot.

Appreciate your kind words...and Go Riders!! :)

Lets go St. Orrville beat Central Wooster...I just thought since we play on Saturday those names might work better.
  • RedRider1
I saw Ignatius/Eds has already sold out....14,000 tickets...gone 5 days before the game.

Best 2 teams in the state...and sadly, only one will make it out of the region.
  • Old Rider
They should move the Orrville/Wooster game to Maurer field this year! There is only one side of bleachers, but for all the people that will be there...that should be more than plenty!

We can all sit together, hold hands, cry tears over the horrible seasons we had, and just all be warm and cudly together...it would put a new twist on the rivalry! We can cheer and root for every kid on the field because we all know there is more to the game than just winning...hell, we can pass ribbons out to every kid and coach after the game for both squads and call them all WINNERS!

Red Rider 1, interesting point. I was in town recently and had a number of great conversations. Many of those conversations ended a little down with many of the people I talked to making your point. Things seem to be changing that is for sure. I would venture to bet all those things can have in impact on EVERYTHING in a community, especially one like Orrville.

Old Rider....That was good! You know you would not be capable of such an undertaking and that is what makes it so funny!!!

Red Rider 1, you keep doing what you are doing, you know how I feel about the job you do. I SALUTE YOU!

    World Tour 2012.

Byers Field has seen a lot of improvements in the last few years, new turf & video scoreboard have really livened up the place.

    Oldrider,
If only one side of bleachers is needed, I'd rather play at the COW.

This will likely be the last Orr/Woo game played on grass...if the rumors are true about Wooster getting turf.
  • Red Rider Nation
Byers is just a tad small especially for a game this big. I will be interested to see where the 2 play when they meet in the playoffs. Hell they could play the game at Browns stadium and probably fill at least half of it

How can you possibly pass up the opportunity to watch the Riders do battle with Generals for those two games...I mean, think of all the great plays and great athletes you will not see by attending those other games!

Do any of you stat people know what the lowest attendance ever is for an Orrville/Wooster game? Another thing that wont help this Saturday is Ohio St plays at 6pm. Move the game back to Friday!!!

Not to mention great coaching! Head coaching that is. no disrespect to your bro.

Attendance is always a loose guess and rarely gets reported in the paper unless it's a packed house.

Wooster's visitor side is small so I wouldn't have trouble believing we fill that...but there won't be people standing around the fence. The crowd will be fine, but not overflowing by any means.

I'd play it at InfoCision Stadium in Akron....great facility for a Div. I playoff game, and they would sell that stadium out, unlike the Browns stadium.

I totally agree. That is a top notch place to watch a game.

From what I've been hearing, the stadium is the envy of the MAC, it's just a shame the football team isn't that good. Hopefully Bowden can get it turned around.

I was at the Wooster/Ashland game this year and Ashland didn't even fill the visitor's stands......
