Orrville Red Rider Football 2012

That would be a fun project. The problem would be that just when you think your done and ready to publish...someone from the early 80's would have another story to add. We know how the story ultimately ended...but those firsthand accounts will never end!Coach_08;1286529 wrote:I think you guys that played or knew Smitty best should get together and put it all into a book! That would be awesome, I have heard some really good ones from former players and coaches. -
5knotsFirst year he was here we used to play some pick up games before school with some of the teachers. I was a Junior. Smitty would elbow the heck out of you.....surprise surprise huh? Anyway, One time he elbows me so hard in the mouth my teeth go thru his skin. He ends up getting a nasty staph infection that needed treated for a couple weeks. It actually got pretty bad. He blamed me until the day he passed that I "bit" him on purpose. Oooh Smitty....

RedRider1Hoping for a win tonight. We've lost 4 of 6 to Ashland since 2006, but the 2 wins have been at their place.
Go Riders! -

sanitizerI have been hit by Smitty,
I have been bit by Smitty,
I remember two guys having a slapping match after a hard exchange under the bucket, We ran to break it up. Smitty said STOP!!! Let those two limp wrists go at it!!! Then without saying a word he grabbed the two of them and dragged them down to the wrestling room... The team just kind of followed him (dragging the two of them), he got to the room, unlocked it, turned the lights on, threw the two of them in the room. Then he said you two sissies do what you gotta do but when you come out of that room you will never fight on my team again!!! He shut the door and started wallking back to the gym yelling ON THE LINE!!!! I said "Smitty"? He said don't worry about them, those two couldn't whip there way out of a wet paper bag with both ends open, they aint gonna hurt each other!!! LOL! We then ran till we all threw up!!!
I would also like to state for the record that I hit my share of guys out of bounds or in lane 8!!! And it had nothing to do with leadership, I just wanted that guy to be wondering where I was at all times!! LOL!
I will be attending the game on the 19 for sure so see you all there!!!!

Troll KingGood luck tonight Riders, try to keep it on the ground And control the clock . You have to keep their offense off the field As much as possible .
-
gowooIt will be wet tonight, that should benefit the Riders.
-
OQBI saw Ashland play earlier this season....definately a good football team, but nothing like the past Ashland teams that Coach Valentine has had.
Let's go Riders, one game at a time and it starts tonight with the Arrows. -
sanitizerI watched them play Wadsworth! Could be another long night for the Riders!!!
-
Old RiderIf our offense cant sustain drives and give our defense a breather...LONG NIGHT.
We will need to get pressure on their QB and force him to use his feet or make a bad throw...if not...LONG NIGHT! -
zeez sportGood Luck Riders!
-
Troll Kinggood luck riders the daily record unanimous pick against you .they also unanimously picked West Holmes over senior I for one think Senior will beat West Holmes.

Red RiderReally dumb penalties on D last night late in game. 4th and 4 and a DB jumps offside trying to blitz. Then we get a late hit and interference calls during the same drive. Without those plays Ashland doesn't score and we are within striking distance in the 4th Q.
The QB change in the 4th for just one series was bizarre. -

Wow late hits and offsides penalties for Orrville and a questionable move in the 4th by coach? Glad I wasnt there. Saturday morning is much more pleasant for me knowing I dont have to get on here and rant about what did ir didnt happen! On the flipside I saw a QB play last night that hits his kids in stride and throws a great ball in Kemp from Massillon. Wow what an atmosphere at Paul Brown. No I am not a big fan of Massillon but hard not to like what I saw last nite. Speed, agility, strength, a good gameplan and most importantly execution! -
RedRider1I think we gave Ashland at least 4 first downs by way of penalty last night.
They drive 13 plays for a score, we go 3 and out. Can't win games that way. Have to to find a way to make a play and get off the field on defense.
Offense made some changes and ran the ball more but had fumbles and INT's.
Had a shot at 7-6 but then they answer our score with one.
Seems like we have 1 good drive a game..again..can't win games that way.
Defense was admirable but have to make a play & get off the field. Offense has scored 26 point the last 4 weeks, there's no personnel change that makes that any better.
Again..comes down to making plays. Offense, defense, special teams. -
Red RiderI looked at our scores this season. We have something like 13-14 TD's. I'm sure a few are defensive/special teams. The QB had our only TD last night. I am curious who has scored for us on offense this year.
It seemed last night we ran a lot of multiple WR sets, but only one WR consistently caught the ball for significant gains. A lot of blame often goes to the QB, but what if the WR's aren't running the routes well or just are not fast enough to get open or aren't big enough to get the 50/50 balls or are not strong enough to break free of a single DB in space to get yards after catch? If this is the case, we are putting 1-2 WR on the field that are nothing more than decoys instead of pounding the ball. Last night we were in the game until the middle of the 4th quarter. Throwing the ball all over the field didn't make sense until the very end.
In the first series of the 4th Q, when the change was made at QB, a second string WR beat the defense and was wide open deep but, according to the Ashland radio commentators, the ball was well under thrown or it would have been a TD. -

Imagine that , the term bizarre describing something the coach did ? Go figure.Red Rider;1288346 wrote:Really dumb penalties on D last night late in game. 4th and 4 and a DB jumps offside trying to blitz. It doesn't matter who we have a quarterback our starting quarterback would've just overthrown him Like he always does .Red Rider;1288364 wrote:I looked at our scores this season. Troll KingI think our record would be different if we actually have a quarterback who can see the field and put the ball accurately where it should go. the painful truth is that this kid is just not a good passer . His accuracy is horrible , always overthrowing everything even simple screen passes . Don't blame the receivers either, sure they do drop a few but 90% of the time there uncatchable .

He has always been afraid to get hit. He plays every game on his tippy toes. His feet are never on the ground and he throws way off balance. He takes 3 steps back and just gets rid of it. Good quarterbacks step up in the pocket and if nobody is open they take off running. He doesnt know what "step up in the pocket" means. -
Coach_08^^^^Troll King does Orrville even have that QB on the team right now or in the school?

RedRider1Red Rider,
Last year we had WR's who could get YAC & jump balls...play makers & game changers...not so much this year.
Excellent point about personnel.. If we have 2 WR's in the spread who are nothing more than decoys, why not go to a 2 back set?
And other than That returned blocked punt against NW, we haven't had a spec. Team TD all year. Defense either.
