so what we're not winning any of those tough games. Someone last year from another town I believe maybe Norwayne ,said the difference between Orrville and other teams who play tough schedules is the other teams actually win they're tough games.RedRider1;1278789 wrote:Fantastic50 says we have the 4th toughest strength of schedule in all of D-4.
The 4 teams that have beat us are a combined 16-4...and WH will bring a perfect 5-0 record to town this week.

Troll KingThere is no reason on earth to bring up strength of schedule look what Norwayne did last year on the schedule they played.

Amen!Troll King;1279293 wrote:like it or not we are stuck with a spread. That is one of the things that angers me , Devault's unwillingness or inability to change the offense. We clearly do not have the talent for the spread offense so why on earth wont he change it to something that fits our type of players. Like the option or the wing T, you don't have to have a lot of size to run those offenses. -
rrfanYou guys are all right. Lets go run the ball with a 120lb. QB and no line. I will give that a quarter why not.
And yes the WR's can't catch and the center can't snap.
Also, you don't have to be huge to be strong. Why is this team so weak? Did they do the time in the weight room? It really does not look like it! -

We agree again! We have won some big games in the playoffs against some tough opponents, but thats the playoffs when we are actually playing a team with similar numbers. We rarely beat the GOOD teams of the OCC...and when we are just an average team...well, we see the results!Troll King;1279309 wrote:so what we're not winning any of those tough games. Troll KingRR1 I understand you're only trying to keep us informed and I do appreciate that, however when we never win those tough games it's really senseless to bring it up. 6-4 or 7-3 means we're losing those tough games more often than not. I know it's not always been that way but the last few years it has been.

the wing T is built around deception the option is built around speed . Quick lineman and a fast mobile quarterback ,we have those tools available. I agree the receivers do have a problem catching the ball the center however is probably tired because they run everything out of the shotgun, trying to run the spread which doesn't work. Also it is quite apparent that the kids did not spend much time in the weight room.rrfan;1279324 wrote:You guys are all right. Lets go run the ball with a 120lb. QB and no line. It has been that way ever since we joined the OCC. That is why even our GOOD teams always finished 2nd or 3rd in the league.Troll King;1279332 wrote:RR1 I understand you're only trying to keep us informed and I do appreciate that, however when we never win those tough games it's really senseless to bring it up. 6-4 or 7-3 means we're losing those tough games more often than not. And in case anyone is curious...our entire system from 7th garde to Varsity has won a total of 3 games. 1 varsity win and 2 jv wins.
I am beginning to think that there is a curse on the turf. Pretty sure Coach Shunkwilers ashes were spread on the old field...maybe we have unearthed more than just the old grass??? -
RedRider1Troll,
Just trying to inform. Our schedule was tough last year with a pretty talented team. It's tough (maybe tougher) again this year with a team that doesn't have the playmakers that we did last year...and the result is the 1-4 start that we're off to.
And I'll give you the fact that typically the teams we lose to are the "good" teams on our schedule that typically go on to make the playoffs. It would be nice to win one of those every now & again.
This week would be a perfect time to see that happen. -
Old RiderI am sure West Holmes remembers very clearly those years when their program was struggling and they were the doormat of the OCC...they may try to put 70 on us if they can!

I have agreed with many things that you have said lately...I just try to bite my toung a bit more having a brother on the coaching staff!Troll King;1279335 wrote:well said and I'm glad we can agree upon something. -

I won't call that bashing, because its true. However, if that would've come from me, that's exactly how it would be framed.
We have talent...just short on playmakers...we've been spoiled with great playmakers for a long time. some teams just don't have enough. -

I agree totally.RedRider1;1279369 wrote:Troll,

I think I have been accused of bashing a little more than you, but I understand what you're saying. If my opinion differs from everyone else's on here then I'm bashing or I'm wrong or I'm an idiot etc. etc . As I said I really do appreciate your fact-finding .RedRider1;1279380 wrote:I won't call that bashing, because its true. However, if that would've come from me, that's exactly how it would be framed.

GreatwhiteFirst off. I dont think we could. Second this game scares me a little. Orrville always plays us tough and I am thinking we might get your best effort yet. Lastly. We wouldnt do that unless u all scored like 40. Coach would call off the dogs if it was a blowout. What comes around goes around.

We'll be the underdog every week from here in out with maybe the exception of Clear Fork, the only role we can play is spoiler.
WH is a familiar opponent and we know their scheme, but they have a stable full of running backs & just keep coming at you.
We'll need big plays and turnovers leading to points to be part of any recipe for victory. Can't match WH drive for drive.
We need to strike first for a change and allow the defense to play with a lead...haven't had one of those since week 1.
Hoping for a nice night and a big crowd. Guessing the WH following has been a good one this year. -

You are right. There are few guys who coach this game that I have more respect for then Kevin Maltarich. I have a mutual friend with him and we got to hang out 2 years ago at the state championships and I sure wont take any credit but while sitting and having some wings and beverages I asked him if West Holmes came knocking on his door from madison if he would consider it. He said he would be surprised if they came knocking and boom it happened! What a great kid. I say kid because he is my age hahaha! After all he is actually the one that put Norwayne on the map again and Joe Harbor made them even better. It is great to see what a really good coach does with a program. After talking with him that day I know he has a ton of respect for Orrville and if the game did get out of hand he certainly would not run the score up. I am one Orrville fan that will keep watching football in Week 11 and I will follow West Holmes as far as they go. You have a great program there and great to see! -
sanitizerFrom what I have seen this year it looks like the Ville is struggling as a result of a lot of reasons already argued about. Little less talent than we have become accustom to, we definatley look small and the overall team numbers look small to me as well???? The true value of any man is how he carries himself when the chips are down, in the midst of the storm. One thing is for sure, this thread does not lack passion!! LOL! Some of the longest lasting lessons I have ever learned in my life came after a hard loss.
And I just feel like I had GREAT parents who worked their butts off to make sure I had it better than they did but not a day goes by that I don't thank the man upstairs for the boys club (before they had a building and we went to the "house"), Jerry Lane, Coach Burk, Ernie Mellow, Vodika, Coach Smitty..... I could go on and on, if you think these coaches are just coaching football you REALLY don't know Orrville sports. This is gonna be a hard year, perhaps a hard couple years...... It is my hope that we "adults" can stay level headed and treat each other with some level of respect weather we agree or not? I think its clear we all want whats best for these kids and whats best for these kids could be a 2 or 3 win season. Just something to think about? Nice to see it getting civil again! LOL!
Lets go Riders, big one Friday (I think they are all gonna be big from here on out) -
