I guess I'm still to old school for some. I realize today's youth are way too sensitive. Back in my younger days if I cried my dad would tell me to shut up or he would give me something to cry about. I'm not bashing the program only what I perceive to be bad coaching at times. I hear Devault is no longer calling plays, but he can still override one. I'm going to refrain from picking on players. It's not that I enjoy doing that I just see things and speak out on them. I stand by my opinion that until our qbs accuracy and decision making improve we are in trouble. I will keep my comments to myself and let his play and coaches work speak for itself. I know my opinions offend allot of people on here but it is a public forum. That being said I will only say good luck this week boys. By the way do they still run the shed drill for mistakes in practice ? Just curious.Old Rider;1261553 wrote:Thank you! I understand your frustrations as a former player but with that answer...I don't understand your negative comments about coaches and personal attacks on players. You say you played so you should understand the time that these kids and coaches put into maintaining the rich tradition of this program. Yet you still bash it? Im confused, or I have figured you out and realize that you really don't understand or appreciate being a former Red Rider! RTR my friend! -

My dad did the same and I do the same to my kids, I dont call it old school..I call it discipline! It is a public forum although I just thought that you as a former player would have more respect for the program you say you once played for and just keep the bashing of coaches and players off a public forum. Just my opinion. RTR my friend!Troll King;1262240 wrote:I guess I'm still to old school for some. I realize today's youth are way too sensitive. Again I'm not bashing the program, I bleed Rider Red. I'm just tired of questionable coaching that's all. I also said I shall stop criticizing certain position players from now on. I was all for running the ball about 30 more times than we did last Friday as well. Not sure why we didn't...Lets hope the Riders get one back this Friday! RedRider1Heard there were several kids who chose not to attend practice on Monday. As a reward, the rest of the team that did attend practice got to run extra for those that chose not to attend.
Those who skipped practice will miss at least the first quarter of this Friday's game.
Hope we can all agree that it isn't the coaches jobs to drag these kids to practice. My boss isn't responsible for dragging me to work...if I want my job, I show up. Shows some real immaturity & lack of commitment. -
rrfanRunning the ball is great when you have time to do so. I laughed at the idiot sitting behind me yelling run the ball with 7 mins. left in the game and us needing two scores.
-
rrfanI would love to hear why they did not come to practice. I would sit them an entire game if there was no reason for the absence.

I guess they thought they got the day off for Labor Day. I think it's exactly what I mentioned...a lack of committment. It shows during the summer when kids aren't in the weight room all summer then show up on day 1 of two-a-days. It takes more than what's minimally required in anything...academics, athletics, college, career, family, etc.rrfan;1262717 wrote:I would love to hear why they did not come to practice. I wasn't just 1 or 2 kids either. 6+ from what I hear. That's a lot when your roster is only 40. -
thePITmanI'm guessing much of it was on the parents, who said "This is Labor Day. You're not going to practice. We're going... camping! Junk food! Sitting around! Swimming! Yay!"
There are some out there that take their kids on vacation the first week of August and then expect their kids to have the same chances as anyone else. Really? These are probably the same parents that complain a team is having a walk through on Thanksgiving or Black Friday the day before a 3rd round playoff game. -

I did hear the words "family reunion" in one of the situations....so you're not too far off.thePITman;1262721 wrote:I'm guessing much of it was on the parents, who said "This is Labor Day. You're not going to practice. We're going... camping! Junk food! Sitting around! Swimming! Yay!"
I think the coaches try to be flexible when it comes to family. They won't get in the way of family, but that has to be communicated from the family to the coaches and of course it wasn't.
I'm sure the other 35 kids that had to run extra, after a bad loss where there was plenty of running anyway, will communicate to these few how important it is to come to practice in the future. -

A no call no show in my world = termination! Sit out a quarter? No way. How about sit out 2 games! Maybe they were utilizing their time Monday reading what we post on Ohio Chatter! UNACCEPTABLE! -
rrfanRedrider1 I disagree with one thing. If the ones that showed up have to communicate how important practice is after one of the worst games I have ever sat through then they will never get it. Last weeks performance was pathetic and I have stayed positive until now. This is rediculous. I was honored to have practice on Thanksgiving two years in a row in high school. I also don't care about missing practice because of a family reunion! Get your butt to practice and catch up to the family reunion later or miss it. You have a commitment to your team. They (the kids) don't get it.
In the words of a former coach of mine after a sloppy WIN once said "you guys are going to run until I sweat" -

When you're practicing on Thanksgiving, you're deep in the playoffs. It's an honor that few teams in the state get each year.rrfan;1262736 wrote:Redrider1 I disagree with one thing. I get you...just guessing the kids might have a few words of 'encouragement' for those that found something more important to do. Hopefully led by the seniors. -

Series62Were the players that missed practice the same ones that really never see playing time on the field?
How do you explain the importance of practice to those "team-mates"?
How do you explain the unimportance of family and then stress the importance of "team"?
When the Riders lose a game and people voice their displeasure, then some of you don't want the names, numbers and position of players and coaches mentioned. When they when however, its okay. How do you discuss sports without mentioning that?
Then there's the "these kids" connotation. Know that at age 16 "these kids" are eligible to operate a deadly machine called cars/trucks, etc. Many do! If they are mature enough to do that, they certainly should be mature enough to handle criticism of playing football! Even moreso the coaches.
And speaking of "kids", maturity and operating cars, perhaps some of you that have the time to watch practice/film/whatever on Saturday, need to watch some of these "kids" as they leave practice/film/whatever as they drive (SPEEDING) thru the park. Instead of having the police sit there in a cruiser as a deterrant, perhaps some need to be caught in the act, ticketed and lose their privileges. On 08/25 I witnessed this after the policeman left, and there were real "kids" crossing the drive at the time. What if...? -
Red Rider NationIf practicing on a Monday wasnt important then playing on a Friday isnt either to those who missed. The message should be then stay home Friday night. A family reunion? Their family reunion is everyday at 3pm when they hit the practice field. That is the family they are with for 10 weeks and beyond. I agree with previous poster, be late to the reunion or miss it! This is the sacrifice you made to put on that jersey and Coach has one chance to make this right. Sitting kids out for 1 qtr is putting the individuals in front of the team. That should never happen!

Series62My point, is that if they never or hardly get to play, what would be so hard about sitting out one quarter or a game, they already are!
-
rrfanSeries I am glad you clarified that because I did not understand where you were going with that.
They should have to sit out a JV game if they are a player who does not play on Friday. -
RedRider1One of the group is a significant contributor on both sides of the ball....his absence will impact the team.
Interesting that so many decided to miss at one time...wonder if it was coordinated?
When you make a committment, you see it through...not just when things are good. -
zeez sportI know for a fact that after films on Saturday and lifting, many of our players worked the rest of the day helping with youth football. These are also the boys that showed up on Monday and ran their butts off! Just as in the classroom, punishing the whole group for poor behavior happens on the practice field too. I hope that the kids that blew off practice do get pressured by their teammates. As for Senior leadership, these are great kids and are the kids that were there on Monday and were in the weight room and conditioning in the off season. Series 62, 16-17 year old kids are just that..kids. It has been proven that good decision making skills are not developed until you reach about 25 years of age. This is where parents must step in. Unfortunately, many don't. Troll King and Red Rider Nation, I will be amazed if you do contain yourselves and stop bashing the kids and coaches. In a back handed way you have already started again.
