Orrville Red Rider Football 2012

RIDER DADRed Rider Nation, I am talking as a dad, and not a fan, you a have never criticize my son directly, but perhaps if you step back and look at where a parent comes from you might understand some of the anger that the kids and parents feel towards you, I don’t know if you, or series 62 or troll king have children or have had kids go through sport in high school during the internet age, but when I get on to look at O.C. and see how you talk about the kids it can really upset some players and parents, for example your comment quote “Also disturbing was the fact that EVERY snap by our center in the 4th qtr was on the ground! Wonder why? The kid was exhausted. How is that possible?” Well its possible because that kid gives 110 percent, the whole time, and yes he is in shape, if you only knew how much preseason conditioning this group went through, which was not mandatory, but the core group did go, and yes Kyle L. was a part of that as well, as my son who was one of the main people cramping the last two games, We start hydrating Wednesday night with pediolight and water, bananas, you get the point. The kid sweats a gallon a minute, that’s not the coaches or trainers fault, it is what it is. Sometimes you give the coaches a hard time that they don’t discipline the kids, when we know as parents, that the kids had the living crap ran out of them then next practice for the very thing you are complaining about and think nothing is being done. Friday night I watched my kid come home upset, tired, bruised and battered, go to bed, wake up go to films, come home sleep until evening, and lay around Sunday with ice on different parts of their bodies. This is not different then the players before, but what is different is when they get up and see their fans rip them a new one on the internet. Just something to think about as a dad, put yourself in our shoes and put your kid in the internet cross hairs. And please lay off Kyle L. kid has worked hard, and I know your friends have indicated he and the coaches have not done much, but he has, you could not be more wrong.

RedRider1Troll,
Let's try having a serious discussion. You respect me and I'll respect you, OK?
About elite/respected programs....do you consider Orrville one? 597 wins, 22 playoff appearances, 29 playoff wins, 9 regional titles and a state title. Pretty good resume, no?
Massillon can't boast a state title won on the field, so if you're saying they're an elite program, then so are we.
And if we're comparing us to other programs in the state...leave Mooney, Iggy, Moeller and other private schools out. They recruit and are basically county all-star teams. Not a fair comparison.
I'll give you Ironton, Steubenville, Massillon & McKinley as public school elites. But we'll never play Massillon or McKinley, so it's not really fair to say we've never beat them, because we'll never play them.
The program that most closely mirrors ours is Mogadore. They have 598 wins all-time, we have 596. They have 25 appearances, we have 22. Their first playoff appearance was 1979, ours was 1980. They have 15 regional titles, we have 9. They have 4 state titles, we have 1.
They edge us out in every category, but if we're comparing apples to apples....not Orrville & Ignatius, then Mogadore is a fitting comparison.
As far as elite programs we've beaten...the 1994 win over Wauseon (defending state champs) was a good win. The 98 win over Ursuline is up there too. The Elyria Catholic win a few years ago too. That program won state a few times. You don't get too many shots against "elite" programs...but we've had our share of wins against them. -

zeez sportVery well said Rider Dad! These ignorant posters have no idea how hard this core group of kids have worked. Why don't you all lay off and support the team. If you are indeed Red Rider fans then act like it. Travel to Copley on Friday and fill the stands and show that you support these kids! Cheer them on...make some noise and let them know you are there FOR THEM. If you post just to cause trouble find a better way to spend your time .

Havin FunOrrville has a great program and tradition. The kids and community are wonderful. This is a game. Outside of Wayne County, (incuding the majority of Wayne County) no one cares who wins losses, or is even playing from week to week. Respect the kid, enjoy the game and remember it is meaningless to the rest of the 7 bilion people on the planet.

Massillon is very much an elite program .While I agree that they never won a title on the field they never the less have 22 state titles. They were awarded those in the system that was in place at the time. You can't take away what they have achieved. They have what they have based on the system of the time. If Orrville had a couple of those paper titles I bet you would sing a different tune. I agree about the private school remark. I think they should play the other private schools for there own title. I was trying to make the point that until a few years ago nobody had heard of genoa. They are not an elite program. Your comment on wauseon and elyria Catholic being elite was a little far fetched in my mind.RedRider1;1261080 wrote:Troll,

Yeah, we really haven't heard from Wauseon since...but at the time, they were an elite program, and we beat them in the playoffs. I think they had a 26 game win streak at the time. Elyria's success was in the 80's, but that team was highly regarded and we've had trouble with the parochials over the years.Troll King;1261230 wrote:Massillon is very much an elite program .While I agree that they never won a title on the field they never the less have 22 state titles. Like I said...you don't get many "at bats" with the "great" teams. In your estimation, when's the last time we played a "great" program? Mooney in 2006? Nobody was beating that team. -

It would be about easier to call them elite if they had more state titles. 22 Appearances is very impressive but to only have one title makes me hesitant to call them elite.Old Rider;1261253 wrote:Most State Playoff Appearances 1 31 Newark Catholic 2 30 Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller 3 29 Ironton 4 25 Mogadore 25 Youngstown Cardinal Mooney 6 24 Steubenville 7 23 Wheelersburg 23 Cleveland St. Ignatius 9 22 Columbus St. Francis DeSales 22 Orrville back to top

RedRider1From that list....
Newark Catholic - never played
Moeller -never played
Ironton - 0-1 (playoffs in the late 80's)
Mogadore - never played
Mooney - 0-1 (2006 playoffs)
Steubenville - never played
Wheelersburg - never played
Ignatius - never played
DeSales - 0-1 (1985 state final)
So 0-3 against the teams ahead of us in the all-time playoff apperances list. All 3 being in the playoffs. Can we decide anything from that list? 3 games out of 994 games played in school history is about as statistically insignificant as it gets.
For the record, we have more playoff appearances, more playoff wins and more regional titles than Massillon. Again, if they're elite, then so are we. -
sanitizerFrom what I saw and heard it just seemed like a pretty sloppy game from the Ville. LOTS of GREAT players from Orrville dropped passes, and the ones that got dropped in this game will be in the rear view as long as the coaching staff and the kids can move forward and put this one behind them. There is SO much more press and pressure in these kids today to perform, as this thread PROVES! We are grown men bickering over how these KIDS played in a game? I am not trying to get all "philosophical" here but..... well you know what I mean. As far as play calling goes, so much of that is situational in nature, guys in the box taking a look at what the defense is giving you and making calls and adjustments accordingly. I played at Orrville and I have a hard time placing too much blame on any one coach, even the head coach. I mean if this were the pros sure but in a small town like Orrville every coach plays a part in the finished product on the field come friday night. It Always has and it always will. That is what makes small town football tradition so special and so very raw. The important thing is that these kids dust themselves off and move forward. Can't take anything that happened last week back, there are no "redoes" in football. The bottum line here is that Orrville got beat by a team that was not interested in our field, there is no better position in the world than that of the spoiler or underdog! No pressure! Congrats to Triway, that QB reminded me of old Brandon Sprang???? shiftly little kid! Keep your head up Riders, I would trade a week two loss for an OCC title or state run ANYDAY!! It aint over baby!

For the record, in terms of playoff wins, only 10 public school have more than our 29. Buchtel is tied with us at 29. The other 10 are...Mogodore 46 Steubenville 46 coldwater 45 Versailles 44 Ironton 43 Marion Local 43 St Henry 41 mckinley 34 amanda cleercreek 33 Germantown 30 -

Are you kidding me this is about as elite as it gets top ten out of all the schools in ohio over the years, and im a general but i cant argue with the fact that this is one heck of a record and very good for wayne county in general props to the riders for these accomplishments wish wooster could get even close to this. -

Agree 100%! Oh..and I remember Sprang all too well! Was not a good feeling walking off their field that night in 93'...made me puke in my mouth! Then I heard later that the community and players slept that night on their field...those Titans sure do take pride WHEN they beat us! top ten in what, not playoffs, not wins, not state titles. You have your opinion as do I. Yes they are the class of Wayne county but not quite an elite program. Like I said if they had a couple more state titles then I could call them elite. One title does not make them elite. They are however elite in Wayne county.scarface1;1261323 wrote:Are you kidding me this is about as elite as it gets top ten out of all the schools in ohio over the years, and im a general but i cant argue with the fact that this is one heck of a record and very good for wayne county in general props to the riders for these accomplishments wish wooster could get even close to this. -

Right is Right, keep up the positive attitude. Trust me it is good for the kids. I know last year with everything going on in Wooster some of the comments on here did hurt some feelings. We as adults need to remember it is about the kids and not us we had our chance years ago now its time to be supportive. Good luck Orrville except for week 10. -

Rider dad I understand where you are coming from. I am over the loss to Triway and hopefully you and your son and this team are too otherwise we are in deep trouble at Copley Friday night. Put it behind us you certainly do not have to agree with me on anything. Again these are OPINIONS. If I offend you I am sorry, if you dont like my posts, dont read them. I can tell you I will NOT hide behind an internet name. I am at every game on Fridays and do support this program. With that being said I do not have to agree with every move they make. That is all a part of being a fan. Again lets not make a mountain out of a mole hill!RIDER DAD;1261070 wrote:Red Rider Nation, I am talking as a dad, and not a fan, you a have never criticize my son directly, but perhaps if you step back and look at where a parent comes from you might understand some of the anger that the kids and parents feel towards you, I don’t know if you, or series 62 or troll king have children or have had kids go through sport in high school during the internet age, but when I get on to look at O.C. and see how you talk about the kids it can really upset some players and parents, for example your comment quote “Also disturbing was the fact that EVERY snap by our center in the 4th qtr was on the ground! Thank you! I understand your frustrations as a former player but with that answer...I don't understand your negative comments about coaches and personal attacks on players. You say you played so you should understand the time that these kids and coaches put into maintaining the rich tradition of this program. Yet you still bash it? Im confused, or I have figured you out and realize that you really don't understand or appreciate being a former Red Rider!
