Orrville Red Rider Football 2012

Someone seems to be living up to their name.

Hopefully, everyone has it out of their system now, me included, and we can pick ourselves up and move on to game 3.

Since the schedule has come out, many Orrville fans had this game already marked as a victory. Especially the OC crowd, I bet that doggone crow is nasty!

    What's the status on Zook?

Copley 42 Orrville 0. Orrville gained 50 yards on the ground in first quarter only to go to the pass and finish with 50 yards total offense. sounds like a reality to me.

Possible he's back for the Lex game.

For some, it won't be "out of their system" until the head coach is replaced apparently.

Hoping for the best this week (and I wouldn't want to be a player). Not sure I've ever heard the word 'embarrassed' from coach before to describe the effort, so hopefully it's not business as usual this week.

Copley will be a tough game, but win or lose, the effort simply needs to be better. Coaches included.

By that public comment about 15-18 year olds, is the coach being negative and/or throwing the team under the bus?
  • OQB
Coach Davault's comments after the game were nothing compared to what Urban Meyer said after a 56-10 blowout game....

Great point series but you know coach will get a free pass.
  • RedRider1
"They played well. They earned what they got," Davault said. "We did not execute even a little bit. It was embarrassing how we didn't execute."

Embarrassed of how the team executed (drops, bad snaps, blown assignments, bad throws) & being embarrassed of the kids are two different things. One is a critique of the team's play & one is personal.

Part of a coaches job is to evaluate his team's performance. Anyone who watched that & can say that it wasn't an embarrassing effort is kidding themselves.

So...no free pass from me & if the few fans that I've heard from in the last 24 hours are any guide, there will be no free passes handed out.

As much as we don't like it, in our last 3 games we've lost to a WCAL team in the playoffs & to Triway on our new turf....and looked bad in both games.

You know what? No matter who you blame it was embarrasing. In my mind its over. I told someone last week before the NW game that we needed to start 2-1 in out first 3 to have a shot at postseason. No matter what has happened we still have that opportunity. That opportunity is up to the players and the coaches and not us here on the OC! Win or lose all I have ever asked was 110% out of these kids and the coaches and last night in my mind was one of the biggest lows in a couple decades at Orrville. People are kidding themselves if they think Triway has a better team then we do but they are the ones that showed up to play and we did NOT! Practice hard this week and get ready to play your best opponent yet. It is ok to make mistakes but it is how you rebound from those mistakes that will define the program! Good luck next week and GO Riders

I like it. Can't change last night....but hopefully today at films the team began the process of improving.

The coach is catching a lot of heat on here. While some may be justified, calling for his job is just plain ignorant. I've heard predictions from this team going 2-8 to winning a state title. Ultimately they won a tough game on the road and dropped a big game at home. If I was told the Riders would be 1-1 going into week 3 back in July I wouldn't be surprised, or ready to hit the panic button. State titles are hard to come by and so are conference championships in the OCC. We probably won't win either this year or next year. We didn't win the conference title last year or the year before. A lot of seasons have come and gone without a state title. Injuries happen, kids have bad games, sometimes so much emphasis is placed on one game for so long that the focus of being aggressive turns into panic the first time something goes wrong.

Calling out players by their position or by uniform number for poor play is classless. Totally classless. I wonder how those who engage in that behavior would react if OC unexpectedly published their names right after their posts. If your gonna tear a kid a new one, do it on Facebook under your real name. Then people can weigh your character against your words. Fewer and fewer kids today play sports for a variety of reasons. It used to be hard to quit sports because of the ridicule you would get from friends and family. Publicly humiliating kids as individuals is sad. Dont even TRY to compare it to bygone eras either. This is a time when everyone has an opinion that gets immortalized for all the world to see. In the pre-Internet days, at least the kids didn't have to hear or read what the "adults" really thought of them. Ya know, the same adults who walk up to them in person and smile at them, pat them on the back and say good luck. Now THAT is an embarrassment.

Hey I have been there and done that. Go back a year and you will see that I did not hide behind anything on here. I revealed who I was. The thing is that this site is about opinions and that is what people are on here giving. Our opinions should not matter to the players or the coaches in that lockeroom. I learned last year that it seems they worry more about what people are saying on here then to worry about what counts the most and that is practicing and playing hard. This day in age with social media sites nothing is off limits. I hate to say that but that is the world we live in. You have to understand that when you sign up to play a sport especially a sport such as football in a town such as Orrville that you are under a microscope at all times. Again sorry to say that but the world that we live in. If you are a coach in the same situation then you have to have thick skin not to let any of that bother you and just go about your business. The best way for Coach D to do that is beat Copley. Nobody can chage the past but he can and the players can work on the future at Orrville.

Some keywords to remember...Ignorant, classless, sad.

Well said & thanks for the reminder about keeping this in perspective.

I like the comment about using real names too. If you're not willing to sign your name to your words, you shouldn't post. We'd have a lot fewer "Internet tough guys" if that were the case. People would have to back up their comments in Buehlers or Mrs. J's or even church or in front of the parents of a player.

I'll give a guy like RRN credit because he came out & said who he was after his comments last year & took some heat in person too. I know in his heart he's a Rider & only wants the best for our teams...as are most that expressed disappointment to me personally. Doesn't make them haters, just means the bar is very high in this town...but they're still Red Riders.

As long as we can agree that we support these kids and will be there supporting them on Friday nights, then we can all get along.

Okay, funny how there are two folks on here arguing over players and coaches. Last time I checked, there is more than just the head coach on the field, but yet, it is only the head coach's fault. Ignorant. Ignorant. Also, there's only so much a QB can do when the players aren't catching the balls. But yet, the guy that never ever, EVER played football continues to criticize the players like he has been there done that. You haven't.

What makes me most angry is how cruel most people on here are. There's only a select few that truly understand the coaching aspect of the game.

It is the second game of the season for heaven's sake. They are kids, they aren't perfect, they are going to lose some and win some. For you sports people, where you perfect all the time. Nope. Neither was I.

I tell myself every year not to get on because I get so angry at ignorance.

You can count me as a vocal one that knows they are working hard.

When you get knocked down, you get back up and get back into it. That's a good lesson in life.

The head coach is also the play caller. The reason I am upset is how he continues to do stupid things. There was a reason why west Holmes put 500 rushing yards on Triway. They cannot stop the run, they couldn't stop us either. So why did he insist on calling pass plays. we have not been a good passing team for a couple years now. Why on earth would you stop doing what works to start doing what doesn't. I don't like hurting someone's feelings but the fact is we don't have a very good passer. Even when he had time his passes are off target. Common sense says if something is working keep doing it until it doesn't anymore. Coach Devault always changes what works, it just doesn't make sense. There was no reason to go away from the run until Triway stopped it. He always seems to break what is fixed. I love rider football and it just makes me sick seeing some of the things coach Devault does every week.

Hilarious! So someone who didnt play football cannot have an opinion? There are more then a few of us on here that didnt play the game and can have any opinion they want. If you dont like what I write, dont get on here. If you dont like me, then dont talk to me but please dont insult my intelligence because I never played High school football. I have been around the game enough to talk more then educated about it. It does not take a person who played the game to see there is a lack of leadership at the top here. If I am wrong then I will certainly admit it but each Friday night I just do not see strong leadership. Obviously the guy is doing something right because he is still here. If getting on here makes you angry then you have some personal issues. This is for pure entertainment and a place to go for fans who want to voice an opinion. My suggestion is if that bothers any of you then dont log on. This is a far more "G" rated site then what is on the other one. You can have your opinion and I can certainly have mine. If you want to voice your opinion to me I will certainly listen. You can always reach me at 330-488-4462.

Troll King;1260427 wrote:The head coach is also the play caller.
    Again another "Ignorant" remark.

The Coach is NOT calling the plays this year. Yes he did call the games last year but NOT this year. The plays are being called from the box and Coach D. relays info to QB...This was announced by the Coach himself before the season started during the yearly Rider picnic....

Good example, 4th & 4 on our own 35 yard line 7.32 left in 4th quarter and we are down 9 points and Kyle drops back and throws a 30 yard bomb to BJ...Coach D. would have more than likely punted it and let our defense try to make some plays if he was doing the play calling, but that call came from the box and as it turned out it was a good but very gutsy play call.

People such as yourself get on here and talk down our Coach and throw our kids under the bus. Stop being a coward hiding behind your screen name, come on out to practice 3pm to 6.30ish Mon. thru Thur. and lets hear you say those things in public as you have said on here, I assure you no wood shed would be needed but I could recommend a good dentist after we help you to your feet.

Do you recognize a Rider in this pic? Taken after a win on Saturday...I really like that motto "WE NOT ME"
