Should there be separate championship for public and private schools?

    Yes he did!
But keep in mind he's a Dover fan!
You have to read their posts with a quarter of the brain because that is all those people are mentally capable of using!

Dover fan shows his endless ignorance stooping to a new low by boldly saying a team who won state in '07 sucks and hasn't made the playoffs since 1990...

    I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

Bet you wished Dover sucked as hard as Newark Catholic, eh????
  • Strapping Young Lad
Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on Dover fan. The only reason I know NC won it all in '07 is because on the '08 State Final programs there was a picture of the '07 Champ teams....One of which was NC.

Since Dover fan has no business at the State Finals he obviously wouldn't have seen the program...

Yea, I missed that one, so sue me. It further backs my point then with the original complaint. A Newark Catholic fan has issues with the current state of Ohio HS football? The private schools have an advantage? Did he say this the years they were winning?
  • newarkcatholicfan
If you would have read the other post you would know my current thoughts on the playoff sytem is now what it has always been.

Im not at your other post, I am here. I wont try finding it either. It just seems the pot calling the kettle black. A Catholic school, with several titles, berating the OHSAA now?
  • newarkcatholicfan
    Now?
Maybe you are not able to comprehend my post, so being the helpful individual I am I will break it down for you. I have always thought the system we have here in Ohio is unfair.

I love that previous arguement of why wouldnt I send my kid to a private school when the problems that publics have of protecting my kids! Those public schools that cant protect them, must take everyone that lives in THEIR District! Urusuline dresses nearly 80 kids with no freshmen out of 180 or so boys. Wow, what participation.

If you took a cross section of society in every town or city in ohio and put it against private schools, they arent indicative of that society. With that said, if a small town has to take everyone in their district and a private doesnt, is the private representing that society at the same level, numbers wise? No, they arent.

It isnt public versus private, it is urban versus rural. When you can draw from a large population and control your numbers and play down in division, you have an advantage.

No private school is turning down thousands of dollars in tuition to stay at a lower level.

    Where did I say that?

No, they arent denying the tuition, but they arent passing out those valuable scholarship dollars to a percentage of the population either. They are not a true representation of the overall public. How many free and reduced lunches, how many IEPs, how many aides for special ed students, how many special transportation allowances? I guarantee that every scholarship passed out goes to a student that helps out the district. I also love the argument, why wouldnt someone want to go to a private, their test scores and overall academics are better, no shit, most publics would too if they could deny the lower 30+ percent of the population was denied an education there! LOL

Congrats Parochial schools -- 4 out of 6 State Titles this year!!! Love it!!!

And on the 8th day, after He had rested, God said . . . "and the Catholic schools shall build great High School football programs, and the publics will show much envy . . . !"

God Bless Kettering Alter, Norwalk St. Paul, Ursuline, and Cardinal Mooney!!!

Anyone can apply for financial aid at a private school. Many parents apply for financial aid and get it through working for the school (cafeteria, working at extra-curricular activities, working part-time in office, etc.). The parents make a sacrifice for their kids, and they still pay taxes, so they are paying for the other kids too. The real secret to success of the private schools is the involvement of everyone. You see it at the top public schools too. At most of the poorly performing schools, you see very little involvement, donations, or volunteering from the parents.

Agree with your point. Division 5 schools around here have a population base of 40,000 while D5 schools in Youngstown have nearly a quarter of a million. Around here, no kids transfer from school to school. The rural schools do an excellent job and there is no need to transfer for a better education.

The private schools will continue to dominate the lower divisions.

I think that Marion Local, St. Henry, Coldwater, Versailles, Amanda Clearcreek, Patrick Henry.......etc. are laughing at you right now.

Now we know why they call it dope.

Hmm... I wonder why Bellaire St. Johns isn't a super-power in high school football?
After all, they're a catholic/private school! They get kids from all over!
They only dress about 20 kids on good years!

I know I'm weighing in on this late because I'm just now recovering from the drubbing Alter gave Coshocton...and then Chagrin Falls, but in short...HELL YES there should be separate tournaments. It's fair and it's done successfully in other states.
  • Dean Wormer
And I thought that my kids did a lot of whining. The post from believer says it all. After the drubbing his team took from Alter. What a crybaby! Grow a pair and man up. You can't compete because you don't have the talent, work ethic, or determination that the winning schools in this year's tournament had. I don't care if they're public or private. This BS about separate tournaments is just that BS.
  • newarkcatholicfan
A public team that is undefeated coming into a state finals games must have been doing something right to get there and to be undefeated.

Or they played a very easy schedule.

Al, yes anyone can apply, but will those scholarships go to everyone who applies? Ah, no they wont! LOL How long would the school put up with a student on scholarship who is truant, disruptive, abusive, non compliant? Not very long, unless they bring something to the table, say 15 sacks, 24 TD's LOL. You can talk until your blue in the face about not manipulating student enrollment and I wont buy it a bit!

IMO, nearly 30 percent of the overall population isnt represented in the private/parochial schools!

I would have never thought about making private/public seperate, until this year. When a catholic school has a awesome jewish football player, you have to wonder.........What made his family go with a catholic school???
Not sure who you are talking about -what school does he attend?
  • Jimmie Copas
I'm not whining, crying,or complaining, just wishing someone would "grow a pair, man up" and admit that private schools have an advantage.
  • Con_Alma
I don't care in there is an "unfair advantage" or not I don't want to ever see separate playoffs.
  • sportsvideo
so how many state champions should we have 12????????

if you're going to seperate public/private,, then seperate open enrollment too..

as one poster said we have too many as it is... everyone wants a chance to win it..so lets just have 400 state champoinship games so everyone has a chance to play in one..LOL

i can tell you coming from a school that has a very very good background in volleyball...we've had kids move into the system just to play volleyball.. no recruting, they just want a chance to play for a good coaching staff and a chance at the gold... success brings success.. we're not open enrolled so they have to move into the system.. its happened on 3 or 4 occasions in the past 6 years.. their reason for moving.. and its mostly the same answer. #1. chance to play for a good coach who runs a great program #2. chance to enhance my college selection because i become a better skilled player #3. chance to win a state title... tis it...

so its never going to be what you call "fair" no matter how you split it up...
