2011 Wayne County Athletic League Football

i am still leaning towards norwayne as the favorite - quite a bit of young speed and talent, 2012 may be their year, though. I also think you're going to see a big improvement in the smithies and bears. Northwestern and hillsdale should be in the mix as well.

Norwayne will be the ones everyone expects to win WCAL, but their line is suspect. Maybe one of the underdogs will come through.

I got a late start to this thread. Where to start?
riders1;698068 wrote:Not really, as they are in the same league, 2 wins by either probably get the same points unless it's Fairless beating Timken, then Fairless would give you half a point more.

Exactly. The other PAC-7 schools have benefited the last few years by the bigger schools (Fairless, Timken) being absolutely terrible, and thus giving L1 AND L2 points for almost all opponents. If we had to pick any two teams in the league to be bad, it'd be those two to benefit the rest with the most possible computer points. League-wide it makes a difference because every team has a DIII and DII win on their resume; but in terms of non-league, it is not that advantageous.

Would Strongsville then start kicking field goals on 2nd and 3rd down? Settle down, now. By the way, apples and peanut butter go very well together!

If I recall correctly (I could be wrong), before Hillsdale got their wave of athletes from the last 3 years, they were the cellar dweller that would pull 1 huge upset each year. Then they got some studs and won a few more big games each year while becoming real contenders. I think they'll go back to being mediocre sooner rather than later.
Red Rum;740798 wrote:Interesting thought, but why go to Orrville when you can take the kids to Chagrin Falls....Better Football & Academics.

And their parents make more money; so according to Chagrin Falls fans, that makes them better football players. Maybe THEY were the ones that got the socioeconomic factor added to the Competitive Balance proposal. Or was it Orrville? Hmm... Oh crap! Did I just bring up "Competitive Balance" on the WCAL thread? ;)

    Haha! +1!

Now that I've caught up on the thread to date, here are my predictions, for what they're worth (not much):
    1. Smithville
    2. Norwayne
    3. Northwestern
    4. Waynedale (3 and 4 could switch)
    5. Hillsdale
    6. Dalton
    7. Rittman
    8. Chippewa (7 and 8 could switch)
  • Mr. Russell
Honestly if you look at Smithville's line and skill players I am unsure why somebody would pick against them unless they had a son playing for the opposing team or some new developments or injuries happen in preseason or during non-league play. Obviously anything can happen though and it is more than okay with me if Norwayne or Hillsdale is the preseason favorite!

    Pitguy.....

You really missed the point & spirit of the old posts on this thread. It doesn't surprise me though, I'm starting to realize how jealous the PAC-7 and Orrville posters are of the good ole' WCAL.

Good luck to you and the Titans this season. Trophies all around...even for last!!!! I hear its a Titan tradition.

Agreed Bloody, Triway is typical for putting out t-shirts or other things if they win certain games. I was told by some Orrville people that after Triway beat them in football one year after losing like 19 or 20 years straight, Triway had to make a t-shirt about it. Also that same season when Orrville went down to the pit, Triway had the final score of the football game on the scoreboard, typical Triway. I could go on and on of other things they have done but I will leave it there. One last thing I also heard Triway fans and players were using racist slang and more towards the Orrville players, WOW!

If only we had enough time in the day, we both could go on and on, I'm sure, and mention thinks like the multiple times Orrville has locked us out of the football locker room during halftime and one time after the game when it was beginning to storm; or when Orrville players cheap shot someone then stand over them and taunt them while they lay on the ground injured; or when Orrville coaches call to personally threaten other coaches; etc. Typical Orrville. I could go on all day, too. But this is a WCAL thread, so I won't waste any more time on that. :) Every school has their bad bunch/experiences, and Triway, Orrville, Waynedale, Smithville, etc. are no different.

    Pitman,

My Chagrin Falls comment was made to quiet down the kid who was trolling the thread, not with any malice towards Orrville. Go back and look.

Anyway, he ought to thank your purple hand for the big red reach around!!

PS- switching gears, sorry to read about the loss of your dog. I've been through the same thing several times and its brutal.

My comment was agreeing with yours and being sarcastic towards the Chagrin Falls fans' comments from last year. Believe me, I'm on your side... they were ridiculously cocky and high-and-mighty, and it aggravated the heck out of me, and I was hoping you guys would take it to them. It was definitely a tongue-in-cheek comment and meant nothing negative towards Orrville.

PiTman I am sure Orrville has done things as well not saying they are innocent either I am not even from there I am from Dalton. I am just surprised at how many area schools(WCL) bring up triway's name about how they can be very classless as do other schools come up, but Triway seems to be the one I hear the most. Now I am not saying that it is totally true, but it seems to be the norm? Also Orrville is talked about as well, but maybe that is because WCL teams have trouble beating them? Trust me I have nothing personally against Triway, but when Bloody brought up some stuff from his comment it made me think of all the stuff I have heard about Triway. I am sure Orrville and Triway fans can talk about a lot of negative things from both schools. As for me I had an issue with the Smithville basketball coach but he is gone now, lol! Now back to WCL football!!!

Ya he will carry the load. Not sure if he will be the QB or RB. I have heard that there are some new upperclassmen going out this year so it should be interesting how they will fit in.

why doesnt the silvis kid play football? i saw him at the track meet the other day and he was fast as can be and pretty buff.
  • 1486wd
good to hear about dane playing - I have been wishing he would for a few years - very athletic, quick and strong. In addition to rb, he would be a great OLB or Safety. I also wonder if they will put moyer at QB - otherwise, ti will be a sophmore with almost no experience (even at jv). A few new upperclassmen would really help out the dawgs.

i agree - with that kind of speed, you have to think return man/corner/reciever if he has any kind of hands. As far as I know, he has never played football, just track but I can't say that for sure.

From what I've heard, Rittman will be moving into a spread offense next year and the coach's son is a stud who could play either quaterback or wide receiver. Sad thing is, I don't think Rittman has the speed or talent to run a spread.

rittman would of ran that offense really well last year with all the speed they had

No doubt...they had it made with Bauman at quarterback and Turbeville at receiver. In a spread, I could see possibly 2 more wins.

i agree, they could of done way more on offense than they did. Besancon needed to open up the play book a little more

^^maybe so, but didn't Besancon take a team that had not won a game, and in a 2 year span (while he was there) made them .500, I would have to say he did a great job with what he had. Rittman's defense was just not that good. I watched Rittman a couple of times last year, and their offense moved the ball very well. In the two games I was at they put up 41 and 34 points, I would like to know how Rittman could have done "WAY MORE on Offense?" Giving the talent that was there, just interested thedemoralizer7.
  • Havin Fun
Not sure if the coaching did a whole lot at Rittman other than keep boys playing. Their senior class was good enough with a bad coach to win 3 or 4 games last fall. Not bashing Besancon but there were many four years starters on that team that got beat up as freshman and sophmores and were bound to win a few games.

    Agreed

Brent did a great job with the Rittman program and just give it a couple of years and I believe he WILL take over for Schrock at Smithville and that program will get right back to its winning ways!
