2011 Wayne County Athletic League Football

absolutely - there is no league out there that will offer hillsdale a better fit with less travel time.(I have also heard about Loudonville's league dissolving, but nothing bout hillsdale, it just doesn't make sense to leave one of the most stable conferences in OH

while i agree that orrville wouldn't run the league.....i disagree with your norwayne comment. i would never root for them under any circumstance!!

Guys..it was a joke...Orrville would pretty much own in football and basketball. The rest of the sports may level things out, but they would not leave the OCC. Thats a fine league and they are successful there.

I think Beast just saved the thread. We were headed for another ugly confrontation with the Rider faithful. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing the Rider fans get all worked up as much as the next guy, but it's a losing argument that occurs just about every summer.
Aside from the fact Orrville has zero interest in the WCAL, they would dominate the 2 big income sports. The Riders would win the football title 9.5 out of every 10 years and basketball 8 out of every 10 years.
As far as the other sports, the Riders would also dominate track. Wrestling would continue to be owned in West Salem & Apple Creek and Baseball & Golf would be wide open.

LOL it was my intention to get them all fired up.....after my post , i went on their board and said "Hi guys"...lol...but when folks started drinking the wine....i figured it wasnt worth it. ;)

    barber- track
  • Gunder13
Rittman has a nice group of kids but when u don't have a strong coaching staff and lets say a track to use, its hard to get a strong program built. All Rittman has is a basketball court and baseball field. Maybe in a couple years with a new AD and maybe some new fields you will see better improvement in there sports.....
  • madman11
gunder- you must be out of the loop.....the new plan for the fields is to build a soccer complex with a track around it. kind of hard to dedicate money to track when it doesnt make any money like football and basketball

What a shakeup in regions! Hillsdale, Waynedale, Smithville, and Rittman along with Ashland Crestview and Wynford go to Region 19. Could make it interesting for the WCAL.

They are in the League because they were invited to join the league. We actually have students who live in Wayne County. Nothing personal madman11, but why would you want them out. Thats just ridiculous, we have just as much right to be in the League as everyone else. Man win a few games and people get stupid.

falcon- i just know as a player, hillsdale was my least favorite trip...always seemed to be too long of a trip for a "league" game.

Good thing Rittman wasn't in the PAC or OCC when you played if you think the trek from Rittman to Jeromesville is too far for a league game.

again i have no problem with hillsdale being in the league...they were always the toughest, most physical games i played in

what is the farthest drive in the WCL (time, not miles)? I am guessing
chippewa to hillsdale. Dalton to Hillsdale used to be a trek but with 30 all 4 lane now, you can make it 30-35 min no problem.

The WCAL has it pretty good as far as both time and distance. Hillsdale being right off route 30 makes it an easy run for all the southern & central schools (Waynedale, Dalton & Smithville). The northern schools (NWN, Norwayne, Rittman & Chippewa) also have a nice straight shot to each other in State Route 604.

I remember in the days of the MAC, Medina Buckeye to Bellville Clear Fork--Now thats a ride. Even leagues that still exist like the Firelands--Ashland Mapleton to Collins Western Reserve or Monroeville, both long runs.

Being a Northwestern guy, every trip except Norwayne seemed long but in hindsight we had it pretty easy.

WOW! Hillsdale, Waynedale, Smithville, and Rittman join Ashland Crestview, Bucyrus and Wynford in going to R-19. Should make for some interesting possibilities for the WCAL.
