Orrville Red Rider Football 2011

I will add this...I really believe last year our schedule helped us reach the Division IV state semi-finals, so I am anxiuos to see how we do this year in the playoffs.

    Go Riders!

I agree. Here is another topic. coach d had brought this up to me one time this spring. He said "do you realize how many football games Mason will have played in if we get on a little run next year?"

Week 11 will mark the 48th game in the past 4 years the Red Riders will have put it on the line. 48! Can you old timers or even you young timers imagine having the opportunity to suit up in a varsity football game for the Red Riders 48times!!!! How awesome would that be? We have been on quite a roll lately and have much to be thankful for...and much to hope for. Let's start by kicking tsot's hiney back ot.

I was able to be a part of 45 games in the Red Rider uniform and it is something I will never forget. It certainly was a an awesome time.

2010 Offense 27 ppg Defense allowed 22 pg difference +5 ppg
2011 Offense 23 ppg Defense allowed 16 ppg difference +7 ppg

I found that interesting. Also remember we played in great weather last year most every night through the season. I would have thought the numbers would have been different. I also would say our schedule strength was a little tougher this year as a whole (say for the titans)
Oh No! Not another numbers Guru !

Wow 48 times 5k that's very impressive indeed.

OQB;946919 wrote:The league is average this year and really no front runner.....everyone can be beat and we have seen that this year.

    2010 opponents season records:
    62-45

Played 4 playoff teams, including Ashland who went to the regional finals in div. II

    2011 oppenents season records:
    44-46

2 playoff teams Northwest, and Ashland gets in if they win.

So last year's schedule was by far tougher than this year, but I still agree that our schedule is very strong every year and helps this div. IV school get into the playoffs with 6-4 7-3 records.
The league record is going to be .500 because for each league win there is a loser, so the big difference is in the leagues first 3 nonleague games where the OCC did not win as many and our 3 nonleagues only have won 13 games this season and won 21 last season. Simple numbers that 8 games difference is what makes it look big , but take 8 from 62 you have 56, add 8 to 44 you have 52 or not that big a diff. with the other OCC non league totals.

Do you happen to know anyone who's been in all 48 of these games?
  • riders1
The record for Orrville games over 4 seasons is 51 games from 1983 thru 1986

    50 games from 1996 thru 1999

    49 games from 1996 thru 1999

I am curious if any one played in all those games and don't recall any Freshmen that started all 4 seasons back then. Does anyone remember if Tom Bolyard played as a freshman?
I know Zwick did but you all know where he ended up

A BIG THANK YOU to RedRider1 for his blog and all the stuff on there. It's surprising that no one has done anything similar with records for Wooster or the WCAL since that 1988 book on Wayne County football.

    Thanks riders1.

    5knots and GoRiders....
the email was from a parent who the kids help coach at the Boys Club....he's relatively new to Orrville too...nice to get an outsider's perspective.

Nice to know that it's not just us "lifers" that see Orrville as a special town....but even those who weren't born with "red and white" glasses on are seeing it too.

Excited to take my two little ones to the parade and bonfire tomorrow night....and start showing them Red Rider Tradition.

PS - anyone else wishing to read the email from a parent, and my thoughts on it...here's the link.

What a great email to receive!

I remember very well my time coaching the little guys in the flag football leagues at the OABGC. It was so gratifying to see the smiles on their faces after a big play, a touchdown, and a victory. Red Rider Tradition starts there and I believe having the players coach those young guys is something that should never change. I am finally seeing those kids that I coached in flag football in the Red Rider uniforms on Friday nights. It is a good feeling to have knowing that the kid you coached when he first started to play the game, still is playing and loves it just as much as you do. It gets me excited to have kids of my own to watch them grow up Red Riders! This really is a special place.

This is what Orrville football and our tradition is all about! Playing in 40+ games is an expectation and anything less is forgotten. I was fortunate enough to be a part of 45 Red Rider football games, not all starting but to put that uniform on 45 times was special!

#25 had to sit out the Lex game his soph year with a broken fibula....aside from that, he's been in 'em all. The NW game that year was played in two halves on Friday and Saturday night due to weather.....so maybe that evens things out..haha. How many of us would trade an awful lot for those opportunities?

Well with most of the finals in and our game on Sat. along with Labrae and Cle. Centrals games it looks good. Canton Central was the only top 8 to lose. Triway gave us 5.5 unexpected points, so with a win tomorrow we should finish #2 at 219 or 21.9 and Norwayne #3 with 214 or 21.4 points.

    So right now it's
    1. Girard ( a 28-12 win against winless Liberty)
    2. Norwayne at 21.4
    3. Orrville at 193 ( 19.3) with 26 pts with a win against Wooster = 219 or 21.9 and moves us to 2nd
    4. Black River 170 ( 17.0)
    5. Manchester 162.5 ( 16.25)
6-9 LaBrae and Clev.Central play Sat, and Brookfield and Canton Central have opponents points on the table with other Sat. games so 3 will be in and 1 will be out, and I am to tired and lazy to pin it down tonight.
