Orrville Red Rider Football 2011

Dorksen doesn't care for Orrville much anyways. Put Mike Plant on the Orrville games. He sure has a lot of experience covering Orrville! :)

Dorksens in love with Wooster and Smithville.

Lets face it..if you were an outsider (living outside Orrville and no strings attached to the community, school, players. sports, etc) wouldn't you be sick and tired of hearing about Orrville???

Lets reverse the role and say we had to hear about Wooster being in their 22nd playoff appearance, great players, 7 game win streak, state titles, final fours, regional appearances??? I would be ready to burn their city down!!

However, thats what is so special about being a part of the RED RIDER NATION!! People can say all they want about "we don't hate Orrville, we think its great that they represent the County" blah blah blah...

It is what it is...and maybe even the sports editor is tired of covering the Riders and the success of our program, the kids, the community, the coaches, the fans...RTR!!!

Well said Old Rider! I'll hit you with some rep when the site allows me.

Good points Old Rider! As our captains said at the bonfire Friday night....

"Any of you out there who have had the privilege of wearing the uniform and playing out there for Red Rider Nation knows that is is more than just 'what you do' on a Friday or Saturday night.......It becomes part of 'who you are' for the rest of your life"

    That hits home.
    Let the haters hate.

I agree there are alot of jealous people outside of orrville over all the success we enjoy. The reporters should still be fair in there reporting, it's a slap in the face to the players and coaches to write such a one sided story. The daily record wrote a story about 10 years ago that mentioned certain area schools with success in certain sports. They mentioned triway for boys basketball and smithville for football, along with west holmes for girls vollyball and wooster for girls basketball. I was shocked no mention of orrville for any sport, last time i checked there were no state champion banners hanging in triway or smithville or wooster. West holmes has a few in girls basketball, at least they should have gotten credit for girls basketball not wooster. My point is there was no mention of orrville for any sport. I'm glad there unbiased writing is still alive and well.

Mark Porter of Scoutingohio.com was on WFMJ TV21 (Youngstown) earlier tonight. He said that the two toughest draws for the local teams here are Boardman vs Ignatius, and LaBrae vs Orrville. He was very complimentary of the Orrville squad.
  • RedRider1
My site is terribly biased. :)

Yea! Who needs The DR? We here in the Ville have the Blog

Well, fellas, we did cover Orrville with a reporter in all 10 games this season, and the Red Riders were on 2 or 3 of our Saturday Sports Extra covers. Can't do much more than 100%.
I'm just hoping it's no more than the handful who post on here that feel we don't do our work fairly and objectively concerning the Riders. It must be so, because we sell a lot of papers in Orrville.

I didnt realize it was throwback night in Orrville. What on earth are these characters wearing a 1985 Older Brothers nylon jacket?

Mike, I've always liked reading your articles. Keep up the good work! The new features you guys are doing is awesome for the area sport fans.

Just should've focused more on the history part of that game with the 7th straight win for Orrville.....and that Wooster got beat by a better team instead of making excuses.....maybe hanging around McCreary to long? ;)
  • RedRider1
While we're talking about the DR, Tell Kevin Lynch it's OK to pick Orrville to win once and a while...his Holmes County bias shows through more than anyone.
  • 5knots
Just wonder what the paper would have looked like if tsot had won? How many side articles would there have been? I wonder. I mean all we did was win 7 in a row.....something that had not been done since when? early 1900s? I certainly appreciate the coverage we get.....after all it is a Wooster paper. We have been blessed with a lot of great coverage from the DR and probably get a little spoiled. The fellas are very good to our boys and we shouldn't whine so much....but this is our thread so what the heck.

I think this is a good time of year to hear your opinion: Who is the best 10 players to ever put on that uniform that I never did? Im curious to hear your opinions. Here is my Top 10 of all time. I might be old but will only post the players I saw play. Here is mine:

#10 - Loren Burkey - Great defensive player. If im not mistaken he started all 4 years

#9 - Dan Stultz - yes a kicker. He was awesome. Didnt he set a record in a game for longest kick and then beat it later in same game?

#8 - Kyle Simmons - explosive and very smart. He could find an open receiver or tuck and run if needed

#7 - Clay Tipton - Not much else to say - his father was legendary and he came to play every game. I specifically remember a game his senior year in Struthers against Thornville Sheridan where he kicked some @ss

#6 - Tim Hiller - Loved his game. Big, mobile, strong QB and had a heck of an arm

#5 - Kyle Domer - never was a big guy but was a heck of a RB. Him and Goodard in backfield was a threat

#4 - Mason Monheim - Enough said. THis kid is a beast on both sides of the ball! A workhorse indeed!

#3 - Jason Haley- He hit people harder than I ever saw. He was all over the place!

#2 - Tom Bolyard - He took a beating and kept on ticking. He was a gamer! He was one of the first players I remember watching as a little one!

#1 - The late Jack Leeder - THis guy was an animal! If you needed a yard he got you 10. If you needed a first town he would get you a touchdown.
