I'm going to be completely honest, I was in DQ last night looking at the team photo, and saw sommers and i thought to myself they need to put him on the line but never thought it would happen, figured they would uae him as a fb/lb.
Well...it is only a year or two year move probably, but he is too good to not play offense or just be a back-up. We need him on the field. -
OQBAbsolutely!

browWouldn't trade our coaches for anyone, they do an outstanding job and I know they appreciate the passion of the fans. From an unbiased perspective after watching three regular season games and all the playoff games I find it astounding that Mason did not get more carries as the 2 back out of the I. I know Tre is a 1000 yard rusher, but it was very evident that he had trouble holding on to the football (even when he did not put it on the ground) and he was not a reliable short-yardage option. Monheim will not lose yards, will hang on to the football, and seems to be the kind of back that would punish and wear on defenses as games progress. I sure hope he is a feature back next year even as he is making 20 tackles a game from a linebacker spot as well. For those who who say that Monheim doesn't break big runs like Tre' I would say when you only get five carries a game (maybe), and you are running them out of the FB spot with no lead, you don't have a chance to wear on defenses and break what would be a three yarder in the first quarter to a 53 yarder in the 3rd or 4th quarter. Not disrespecting what Tre did, I think there was a use for him but I believe you would have seen greater success if the carries were much more balanced than they were. Certainly spreading carries around to Turner and Davis etc. will be a key to staying unpredictable Next year. I could not agree with 5knots more about the game this past Friday. The run was never stopped, it takes patience and a commitment but you simply cannot put the game in the hands of a sophomore quarterback in 25 mph winds. Has your QB won games for you this year? NO and you haven't asked him to. He did a great job of doing what was asked and being efficient. He was not put in a good position on Friday. Your strength is your defense. Control the ball game and the clock. All that being said it is completely different when you are in the flow of a game and you have 25 seconds to make a call and snap the football. Much easier to look at in retrospect and I think even the most novice of football minds could call a great game if benefiting from watching afterwords what the transpired throughout a contest. No excuse though for the end of the first half. CF own 6 yd. line. 3 timeouts. What message does that send to your kids? Not so much even about scoring but what bad was going to come of using those timeouts and making them punt? No risk. Let the kids know we are not afraid to attack and we will not surrender. That was a white flag moment for me. How bout kudos to Brenner for playing hard every play even on the PAT where he knocked himself silly with a headfirst plant onto the turf after going airborn. Great season. Way to carry on RTR. Time for weightroom and speedwork.

riders1Well, last 6 finals games to watch this week, then 6 finals next year, then will really miss the finals being so close after that, so will probably only go to 1 or 2 games in Columbus in 2012 Then I can finally start going to our 1st basketball games with no football close that night.

otownexpertAs a parent of a current Freshman player it doesn't surprise to see Sommers' (Speeling?) willingness to step up and do what necessary for the team. I have watched him since 7th grade and most of you should know he will be a much better FB/LB than guard. I would think this would be for 1 year He is a power runner and will lay some extreme hits and open huge holes for Zook in the future. He is too talented to remain there after next season. IMO Those two will be something very special in a year or two. I believe our Freshman have some other guys who might step in and compete next season for lineman positions. The Brown boy has size and D. Kick could do well if they work hard in the off season.

5knotsOne of the best first posts I have ever read from n00b! Usually it is someone who finally needs to grind his axe. haha. Welcome brow. Your points are very valid, as is the passion. Gotta love those Riders! Bball will keep us busy and give us plenty to be proud of again and then we are right back in the thick of it for football season.
-
5knotsTwo n00bs in a row!! Awesome. Again great first post. Trevor's move is all about being a team. I agree. I also agree with some of those Frosh stepping up. The opportunity awaits. We have seen from several of our opponents this year that you do not need to be large to be effective on the O and D line. You need to be disciplined and tenacious! We don't need to move people... just occupy them. Coaches Steiner, Graber, McCauley can do wonders with kids who have the proper attitude and work ethic. It starts now though....not in May.
-
OQBWelcome n00bs!! Glad to have some more Red Rider Passion on the chatter!
What about the Neer kid....I see he is 6'4" in the program, how good is he? -
riders1Wow, 1 day and we have almost as many posts as the Mass tigers 2011 thread has had in 3 weeks

gobrownsi said all week long before the this last game, if we stick to what's been working, we'll be fine. i just had a bad feeling though, that we would come out committed to throwing instead of running. sad to say i was right. this game reminded me of the clear fork game. we put the whole game on our sophmore qb's shoulders instead of relying on our running game. we can only guess what the outcome would've been had we stuck to running the ball & just mixing in a few throws here & there. if we were going to throw that much that early in the game, they should've been much safer throws. instead, we had him throwing into heavy traffic most of the time. something else that's been bothering me for a long time is how we don't even talk as a defense after each possesion. i know we have guys going both ways, but we still have others on the sideline that could & should be talking with our coaches between series. we were just shredded those 1st 2 drives & not 1 coach huddled our remaining defenders to talk about what was going on. every team at every level i've seen huddles up with their guys on the bench between series. we'll have db's get beat for td's & nobody even talks to them. i'm not suggesting they should be screamed & hollered at, but they should definitely be talked to to figure out what to do different the next time.

FlashGreat about Summers. It needed to happen and I thought about him as a possible right away. Not for him, but the team. Its going to take sacrifice from some others also to replace some of the Senior linemen. Another of the Freshman has gotten bulkier and could help us upfront also.

5knotsGood point. I know that is the very reason Mason is not on the Kickoff team and punt team and extra point team...it is those three opportunities he talks with Coach Haley about what is happening out there in real time. I do know that it may not be evident because it is not necessary to do as a group but Coach Brenner will be talking with our Safety as he comes off the field as will Coach Graber with our nose guard. There really isn't much of an opportunity for a wholesale discussion with the game going on. Those coaches are very involved though.
-
OQBGood point Gobrowns...But like you said we have so many 2-way players it is very hard to get them together and talk about what they are seeing and what is going on out there. I did however see Davis, Pirman, Monheim, and Rice all talking with Coach Haley at some point during the game. So they do talk to them, just not as a group or right after a defensive series. The thing is though, we have 3 Coaches up in the box (Steiner, Slaughter, and Shrock) the first two our offensive guys, and Shrock is Haley's eyes in the pressbox letting him know how they are lining up, what they are trying to do, etc... McCaully is down on the field to talk to the Offensive lineman, and Coach Davault is their to talk to the offensive skill guys. Mosley is all special teams and not sure what Coach Brenner's role is but I'm sure it is with the WR/DB's. It is a total team effort every game with the coaching staff, and we only have so many eyes to see what is going on, talking to players, thinking about situational things. A LOT goes into a football game.

They may not read it, but they DO "hear" about it! -
5knotsWhat about the Neer kid....I see he is 6'4" in the program, how good is he?[/QUOTE]
Out for most of the first half of the season...maybe til week 7? Not sure what the injury was. Don't really know if he had the time to really impress much. He does have the frame to build a good football player on. Weight room.. -
OQBI could see him being another Ladrach, Shimanek, and Pirman...same build and seems to be athletic.
-
BRFI was wondering when you were going to "pull the trigger", go browns!
-
RedRider1Mason should nab an all-ohio selection this week. I think Stew (1st or 2nd team) and Tre (2nd or 3rd team) deserve it too. Any others that have a shot?

Haha. Classic, QB! Orrville should have a fine team next season, as always. Lots of talent and experience returning, and some kids that I'm sure will be hungry for more. Good luck! -

I was at the KSU/Akron game this year, and he was not dressed (well, he was dressed in his jersey but no pads). Is he back and playing again? -
Series62Man, that team did not do too well this season, what are they 1-11? That's rough!
