Go Riders...yes our defense was our strength nobody is denying that. The offense, when we established the run were very efficient and scored points. We stick to our strengths during week 14 we are playing today. Hartley was an athletic Genoa....simple as that, and I know we have the defense to stop that.
Riderfan, take off your blinders because we were a completely different team after that loss to Clear Fork. None of us would've predicted a final 4 trip after that game.
That was my point. The person or persons making the play calls pretty much stink. Watch Ashland we run with mason and matt and score then we quit doing it the rest of the game. Look at wooster game running ball won game. Our very inaccurate Qb completes 2 or 3 passes I think. The triway playoff game qb stinks, EC game run ball with mason and matt and have longest drive of playoffs score then go back to pass and miss game. Just get the films and watch Senior, lex, lots of pass and complete to other team like with chagrin Falls and lots of pass and miss to the good guys. If we try all passing with next to no run next year like I suspect will happen it will be a very long miserable season. This Qb is no tim Hiller or Kyle Simmons and the coaches need to grasp that reality. I think running split back would have worked very well this year but it is not part of Davaults playbook. Remember it goes like this. Orrville forces the kids to play the coaches playbook rather the building the playbook around each years strengths and weaknesses. I also believe that the high winning percentage our head coach has can be mostly credited to the great defensive coaching. Defense carried the team this year and most likelywill next season. -
OQBGo Riders....exactly!!
Sad to say it but I think we will throw more next year in part to losing our o-line and that we have 2 of our top receivers back, and our QB.....do I agree with that, to an extent. We have to establish the run though and use it to set up our passing attack. -
RiderfanOrr QB, you know more about football than me but, isn't it easier to run block than pass block? With an inexperienced O line and our strength being the running game, why not run more? Unless you have a Simmons or Besancon that can get out of danger with their feet, I think we may be in trouble by trying to pass too much next year. I'm by no means giving up on Lichti but he seems to be more like a pocket passer. I think you have to get the ball in your playmakers hands more be it Turner or Brenner at qb every once in awhile. Heck Turner just might of won three games for us this year on limited touches. Lichti will be a talent but we also have some other talented kids that I believe were under utilized on offense last year.

I said that after the second Triway game...which Orrville won with limited touches by Turner who scored TD's three different ways. A coach should be able to recognize an exceptional talent and work to find a way to get him the ball!Riderfan;587332 wrote:......we also have some other talented kids that I believe were under utilized on offense last year. -
OQBRiderfan, their are different kind of blocking techniques...the wing-t blocking scheme works great for inexperienced small lineman...which is why a lot of the wcal teams ran the wing-t because of the size of their line. In our case though...pass blocking is easier and that is why for so many years we passed the ball 75-80% of the time...since the return of Brent Steiner and Brent Miller, we have seen great run blocking and different types of schemes. So to say one is easier than the other really is hard to say.
Like is said before, we have everyone back, just need to find 4 lineman....I know without a doubt Brent steiner will coach these boys up and have the line ready for next year, its just the playcalling that will decide what we do...and it SHOULD be run first, pass second. We went to the final 4 with a very low scoring offense....the coaches always said we try to put our players in the best position to win...I also think that means calling/creating plays that will get your playmakers the ball in multiple ways and let the run set up your pass....I would like to see the return of the slant route this year. Can't think of a game where we even ran a slant route. -

Please don't get all wrapped up in yourself on your expert and "non-biased" game analyses. I think everybody on here pretty much agrees with that statement of yours.Series62;587387 wrote:I said that after the second Triway game...which Orrville won with limited touches by Turner who scored TD's three different ways. smandidnt know brent miller coached anymore. didnt he coach freshmen when he was coaching? Thats been atleast 2 years ago.
-
OQBSman, yes my point being he started with the senior linemen when they were freshman...
-
smanI have to laugh at stuff on here.....im no football expert.....but you hear all the time from the experts on tv that coaches are only as good as the players they have.....now you can armchair qb the play calling....everyone thinks they are the best playcallers!!! Yes you can complain that certain guys should get the ball more.....but really...are'nt the players the ones who dictate how good the team is?? I mean did mac suddenly lose his ability to coach after the 99 season when that very good senior class graduated? Did anyone on here really see a final 4 appearence from this years team? Yes the offense struggled but thats gonna happen with a soph. qb, isnt it? Do you really think they could have ran the ball everytime against falls and succeeded? Falls def. line looked pretty good to me? I'm asking these questions.....what are your guys thoughts? Was the coaching really that bad??? I mean we could have woosters coaching staff!!! I as a fan sure wouldnt want that!!
-
OQBYou make good points Sman, and I do agree with you...I think I can speak for a lot of the guys on here though and say we just get frustrated when we get away from our strengths and try to do things that we aren't built to do. We averaged 8 yards a carry against chagrin falls, yet went away from the run. We love our coaching staff (maybe not Go Riders lol) but we just want to see our strengths shown every week, and week 14 we didn't do that.

Mr. RussellBRF, sorry, wasn't home much today haha. We scored on the first drive against Mooney, I am telling ya!

OK, I just looked up the DR article on the game and it says we were down 14-0 after the 1st quarter. I remember we ALMOST scored first on a tipped pass in the end zone that Weeman very nearly caught. It was right in front of me. -
Mr. RussellBRF, I am very upset now that I was mistaken haha. My memories of that game are not as fond now!
-
OQBYes we should've scored on that first drive...#23 the db (about the only guy who didn't go division I) played a great game against Weeman. What was more frustrating for me is that we had them at 3& long all night we just couldn't stop them on third down.
-
Mr. RussellAnd who would've expected them to run so much on third and long!
-
OQBIt was almost like they were toying with us.....make us feel good we were stopping them, then BANG 20 yard run! Atleast I can say I tackled Zordich, Beacham, McCarthy. Haha o well, I'm over it.

Actually it was Thomas who almost caught that pass-they're DB's did a great job on all our receiver's- that season Thomas had 1,100 receiving yds, Tyler and Weeman around 450, Kleinfelter another 200. Great offense got hit hard that night but not hit as hard as our defense! That team had some big physical boys that's for sure. -
BRFAllOhio;588997 wrote:Actually it was Thomas who almost caught that pass
Yes, after it was tipped by the db, Thomas almost caught it, BUT James had the last shot at it as it fell toward the ground and he JUST barely missed snagging it. -
riders1Looking back at the PD preseason football finals picks they had 2 correct , Ursuline and St.Johns won. Trotwood-Madison was there the other 9 ( including triway ) were not there
-
5knots^^kiss of death.....Most likely we'll be on that pre-season list next year. I'd rather be the unknown.

OQBGoes to show they know nothing about football or sports in general.

Kind of like pitman ........ just kidding pit, but if you would have picked Orrville a few times on Locos picks thread you might have beat me out of first place -
RedRider1I picked DSJ, Ursuline & Watterson.
Said D-1 would be Glenville or Eds.
Parochial schools all the way. -
BRFI have been wondering something since our last game. I believe that that was the first time in our storied history that we only scored 3 points in a game. What do YOU think?
I have also been wondering how well a 7'2" kid could catch a ball thrown up for grabs in the end zone. -

Sorry BRF but we have actually been shutout in 4 playoff games and I saw all but the 1980 game.
1980 Benedictine 7-0
1987 Struthers 21-0
1989 Ironton 28-0
1992 Lima Bath 27-0
