Orrville Red Rider Football 2011
-
BRFNo no no! I mean, have we ever only scored 3 points in a game....ever? (BTW, I DID see that 1980 game...nasty weather).
-
OQBThe 7 footer could be a great De/wr if he is athletic enough.....
-
riders1No 3 point playoff games until this year. I can't access RR1's blog history drop down to see past regular season games scores so he'll have to help us there, but I would think not any in recent years where we only had a field goal.
-
riders1I found a printout and in 1993 we lost to Central Cath. 27-3, so it has happened and we probably were there to see it. Way back in 1920 Orrville beat Wadsworth 3-0, and I saw a few 2-0 scores in the 20's and even a 1-0 score against Wadsworth, must have been a forfeit.
-
BRFEdit: good research. 1993...well, I was close in that it was only the 3rd time it's happened. Those other scores you mention are very interesting.

5knotsMooney grad in 2005 in a heap of trouble.

How does a program like Iowa NOT know this is going on? Your top receiver and first round pick to be. definitely a black eye for the Iowa program...might get them crossed of some recruits list...I know one for sure. One thing was stressed in Nebraska......drug test often....and if you smoke weed.....the Huskers have no place for you....you are done. Wish that was the case everywhere....could have maybe helped this young man not fall down that slippery slope...then again, maybe not. He knew what the consequences were. -

From the story, it reads that he was arrested for possession with intent to sell/distribute, it said nothing about use, so a drug test would not necessarily have proved or provided anything.5knots;592376 wrote:Mooney grad in 2005 in a heap of trouble.

If Iowa recruited your son, why would the actions of one (or more if that's the case) player/s be cause for you to not consider them? Do you have a guarantee that this activity isn't happening at Nebraska.
After the drinking and/or drug activities during the last two years at Orrville High School did you consider sending your children elsewhere? -
5knotsFair points Series, but this is Iowa's report. Go into detail on the media releases from news organizations not affiliated with the school and you paint a much worse picture. I had that perspective on my post. No I did not think of sending my kids elsewhere. this is a public school doing its best to educate and mold kids to help them make good decisions.....Orrville is not an institution hand picking and providing a young man with an education pushing $100k and opportunities afforded very few young men in this world. It is hard for me to think they did not look the other way,,,,,I agree that may not be seen as a fair assessment on my part. Oh well.
this is from another thread:
CARDINAL MOONEY GRAD DERRELL JOHNSON KOULIANOS ARRESTED ON DRUG POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA, COCAINE, AND MULTIPLE PRESCRIPTION DRUGS. he also tested positive for cocaine and weed and has been charged with running a drug house and distributing drugs. less than a year away from being drafted he just lost everything.
As far as Nebraska is concerned. I guess nothing is a guarantee, but I was impressed that it was a very specific point of emphasis by multiple coaches and others associated with the program that drug testing is commonplace and they have a zero tolerance policy on drug use. zero. -
OQBI remember watching that kid play his senior year. Got hurt in the playoffs and would've probably helped Mooney beat Coldwater in the Championship game instead A little man named McCarthy stepped in and is now at Notre Dame. He was a stud, Too bad he had to throw all that talent away!

Do we know if he'd been tested and found positive prior to this situation coming to light? I would think that many schools do have a zero tolerance policy and perhaps Iowa does as he was immediately suspended from the team. I would also think that that is part of their "sales pitch" if you will to get prized athletes to sign with their school. I've heard that "pitch" at several schools I've visited with my sons, including the USAFA. They have their Honor Code, if you break it, you're out, if you witness someone breaking it and do not report it, you're out!
Athletes are ruining their lives at all levels, consider the pro's that have multi-million dollar contracts...it's not as if they don't know!
It happens and will continue to...
I hope you don't take my conversation as an attack on Orrville athletics as some are wont to do! -
5knotsI just find it hard to believe that your best offensive weapon and future 1st rounder was keeping all of this "under the watchful eye" of the program. I am sure more info will come out and I probably shouldn't be jumping to conclusions.
-
Series62I wouldn't be surprised to find that it happens on all levels of schools and professional sports and in various the sports to some degree, be it your best or worst players!
"Under the watchful eye of the program"...as an example, how much watching was done during the aforementioned high school years, especially as it was not the first time for some?
It always appears to be concern only after exposure is made. -

Need to update your browser (or at least the latest version of Javascript)....that's a wealth of information you're missing out on. -
RedRider1Never knew he went to Mooney. Too bad for him & his situations.
Choices have consequences. Both positive and negative. No "system" failed him....he failed himself. -
Series62^^^"he failed himself"...Exactly!
-
Old RiderIt happens at all levels and even more in college and pro where more money is available to players. Sounds like this kid had it coming. You choose that path and you WILL get caught! Good for him, he deserved it!
I would like to know how a kid like this was "academically elgible"? Anyone running a drug house, addicted to cocaine, pot head, selling drugs....was he really attending class? NCAA athletics needs to crack down! -
OQBCongrats to Mason on earning JJHuddle's Honorable Mention All-Ohio, glad he is back for one more year in the Rider uniform! Great player to watch play the game of football.
Shockingly enough, Orrville got the shaft again on the huddle...how does a team make the final 4 and have 1 all-ohioan, while the entire St. Eds team is on the list...oh well I am never surprised how much we get overlooked on that site and how much they platform the big schools. -
5knotsThanks QB..I'll pass that along. I have been watching Mason's Hi-light video he just finished for this year....only about 6 times today....like a good Dad haha. No. really I love that stuff. It should be up on scouting ohio in a day or two. I cannot wait to see He and Davis again next year on Offense and Defense. It seems on D where one is.....their is the other. Great tandem in the middle. Great speed from both of them and it is so evident on film. I'll try to post a link when it's up.
-
OQBCongrats also to Max Pirman for making JJHuddle's Honorable Mention All-Ohio team.

You would be really surprised how many students are a lot more academically intelligent then people give them credit for considering their circumstances. I've been told by some former students that all you have to do is show up in class and you'll pass with a D. Add to that, showing up for class and being a "star" athlete, in some schools that can carry you a long way.Old Rider;594394 wrote:......I would like to know how a kid like this was "academically elgible"? You guys need to stop "being" so naive! -

So what? Like nobody ever thought that until you, in your great wisdom, brought it up. I'll speak for myself and say that I'm not "naive". I believe that most of the other posters on here are not, either.Series62;595046 wrote:You would be really surprised how many students are a lot more academically intelligent than people give them credit for, considering their circumstances.
