CAMPBELL MEMORIAL 2011

really cant answer that question ohio...he was the starting jv quarterback on an 8-1 team thats pretty much all i know. zetts has raved about him and has said since last year he was the future qb, so theres something he likes. what that is i dont know. i have never seen him play except returning kicks. maybe that gives us some clues on his speed, but i am not sure. im sure he will have his lumps.

Have no clue. In all honesty, who has actually seen the young man play QB?? I never have.

Talent is there, but I am really waiting to see the leadership roles and who fills them.

My Hat goes off to Steven Elash. He started the little red devils back up about 8 or so yrs ago and the product is starting to deliver just as we knew it would when we talked about no little red devils being a huge problem a few yrs back. I am telling you guys now it is starting to show and if you think this yrs team is going to be exciting.....remember me saying this right now.....wait until the upcoming freshmen get to the varsity level. Nonetheless, I look forward to the upcoming season .

My brother attends all the jv games! I just got off the phone with him just a few minutes ago. He told me Reyes is a strong kid and has a cannon. and has very good accuracy. he said he will be fine and has no worries about him taking over. as a matter of fact he was hoping that Reyes gets the nod. He also said they have some real nice talent coming up this year. We shall see. And he also said the Hughes little brother also is a nice QB. but spouts off at the coaches at games. Anyone see or hear this??? cause he said there was a few games where he was seen throwing his helmet and mouthing off at the coaches. Well i hope that kid does not think he can get away with it with Sakora and zetts. He is sadly mistaken.

The Springfield scrimmage is on Saturday August 13th at Knapick Field. List the second one and the "preview" scrimmage (if there is one) if anyone has the info.

Its exciting to see football season right around the corner!!
  • reddevil90
Did anyone attend the passing scrimmage? If so how did Reyes perform?
  • lets_go_devils
Devils participated in the annual 7-on-7 passing scrimmage with over 50 schools represented in all divisions. Campbell went undefeated and won the tournament with a Reyes TD pass with :37 seconds left and a successful 2pt conversion. I'm really starting to get excited fellas.
  • reddevil90
Yeah heard Patton did really well. Ja'les didn't participate. my bro went.
  • omemorialhigh
why didnt jales play? give us details on the scrimmage
  • reddevil90
Ja'les had a driving test to take....

I didn't even know about it until I heard the results. It sucks when you don't have family on the team, you don't get the calendars anymore lol.

Sidenote: Guidos and Sikora are up at Waynesburg today for orientation. They report for practice on the 13th.
Tyler Abron is playing at West Liberty.

lets_go, I figured you were in the loop since you were the guru last season. I have asked a few of the players about the contact scrimmages. One of them told me that the first one is vs. Springfield on Saturday August 13th at Knapick Field. I assume that is correct and it starts at 10 AM although they could not confirm it. Also they do not know the opponent for scrimmage two or for the possible third preview scrimmage, should that be played. I know we played Youngstown East in scrimmage # 2 last season. Hopefully the administration has gotten that PA system fixed at the stadium. I talked to you a few times about it last season. When that PA system is working like it should, there is none better in this area. I would like to see it working like it should again. Good news hearing about David, John, and Tyler. Three good kids.

Anyone know when martins ferry is coming up to scrimmage I remember after they played last year they said they where going to scrimmage this year

I really have to say...Sikora is doing a phenomenal job in rallying these kids. I run down the track every so often and hes really got everyone excited and numbers look real good. I think all the offseason rumors were garbage and I think this team is really headed in the right direction. The program is looking up. I do not think this will be a one and done staff.

Lets hope it keeps going good. I think we are gonna be fine. The two games i'm worried about are Girard and Struthers this year. And probably South Range also. But we need to not give up big plays in the passing game and attack at the line. Offensively we need to not cough up the ball as much. We had a lot of balls put on the ground last year. and a few almost cost us the game. And some did cost us a game. Mistake free and the devils should be fine! If the D is Special then we have a shot at making a deep run. I hope to have a Home playoff game if we can sustain a good balance attack on both ends.

Girard and South Range should pose a challenge. I don't see either of them as legit threats to Campbell though, unless the O struggles without #2. If the D lives up to the hype, and Ja'les can find a way to pick up where he left off last year, Campbell probably won't have much trouble starting out 9-0.

Come week 10, all bets are off. Struthers and Campbell will likely be jockeying for playoff points again, for the first time in over a decade.

One thing Struthers and Campbell fans can both agree on 100%... this game needs to be on TV. Poland-Canfield isn't a bad rivalry, but it can't hold a candle to Struthers-Campbell.

Amen To That. Lets start getting people to write into Channel 27 for week 10. But they will indeed need to worry about number 2 again. And there are two Hughes brothers on the field again this year. Its weird but its true. Ja'les is taking his brothers number and dropping number 3. and LaTrel i believe is taking Ja'les number 3. Latrel from what i hear is extremely fast and very very gifted. But also can be a bit of a trouble maker. But this is Sikoras team and he will not deal with it.

campbell will not start 9-0. return 3 starters on offense. 5 on defense. lets be realistic. 4 out 5 first games are on road. would be happy with them coming out with a winning record for that stretch...there will be bumps in the road. alot of them. new qb and center...6-4 will be a good season all things considered
  • BigDean1
omemorialhigh, I agree. South Range, Liberty, Brookfield, and Labrae all have the potential to be tough games. All of them are on the road. Range is always solid, Liberty gave Campbell a battle at Knapick Field last season when Campbell had several experienced starters, although that game was the first without Skevo. I expect Liberty to be a tough game. Brookfield has its entire offensive line and QB returning. LaBrae has some kids coming back too. Girard wants some payback for last season. That game is also on the road. Struthers QB Kimbro has added 20 pounds of muscle and gave the Red Devils fits in that game last season. Campbell may well have more talented players at the skill positions than any of their opponents. But with all of the big shoes to fill this could be an interesting year. It takes time for a team to jell. The Red Devils lost four very good offensive linemen and a very good fullback. Ja'les may not find those holes so easy to find this season. I've heard nothing but good things about Brandon Reyes at QB. But the young man has never played a single down at QB in a varsity game. I never put the cart before the horses. I don't get too high on them. I don't get too low either. I'd be satisfied with 6-4, provided one of those six wins comes against Struthers with a playoff berth on the line. That being said, GO DEVILS !!!!!!!!!!

I didn't say they would start 9-0, I just said that if everything comes together... it's probable.

They went 9-1 last year and they had to travel in week 11. Their schedule is weak. I'm not saying that Campbell is weak, but their schedule, collectively as a whole, is weak.

Girard will have a better offensive line this year. They had a young line last year, so they'll have more experience. Graziano is a stud. They lost Landon Smith though. Unless someone else steps up big time at receiver for Girard this year, I see them going 6-4 again. Their stud LB graduated too. 6'0" and 215 pounds, and 130 tackles isn't easy to replace. Smith doubled as a safety too.

Brookfield could be tough, I'll give you that. If they can build on what they started last year, I can see them going 8-2. Their schedule isn't exactly brutal either though. Campbell will likely be the best team they see all season.

South Range is another 6-4ish team, that Campbell should be able to handle.

Liberty has a nice tradition. They're coming off a 1-9 season though, in which they couldnt pass to save their lives. Their best RB is gone too. Don't you think you're giving them a little too much credit? Campbell should be heavily favored.

LaBrae has some talent at the skill positions, but unless they find some linemen, I see them at 5-5 again.

Like I said before... if the O struggles without Lester as the trigger man, they may get off to a slower start. That would make their first few games more interesting. The D needs to exceed expectations, they need offensive linemen, the receivers need to produce, and Ja'les needs to find ways to get loose. A lot needs to happen.

If they're going to host a 1st round playoff game, they'd better go 10-0.

Oh, and the Sophomore QB needs to take care of the ball...

BTrev, you are correct in your assumption that Campbell's schedule is weak, and thus Struthers is on the schedule. In all honesty I think its funny how a D3 school is calling a D5 schools schedule weak. Come on. Struthers has the weakest D3 schedule in the tri county area. We may play some weaker schools, but they are either the same size as us or bigger. Campbell has never played down, even through the bad years. So saying our schedule is weak because of the conference foes we are required to play is a little dramatic. south range brookfield and ridge are the same size. liberty, struthers are bigger. and lets be honest...if i was a d3 school and i had trouble beating a d5 school id really question how weak my schedule was instead of the school with waay less boys. like i said if our schedule is weak...its partly because struthers is on the schedule. i have zero problems with our schedule for a d5 team. go compare our schedule to any other d5 public school and its very comparable. now go compare your d3 schedule to other d3 schools and its laughable. please stop, you sound uninformed.
