Official 2010 Nascar thread: Season long discussions!!!!

Haven't decided yet. I was thinking of making a weekend trip of it. But I was thinking about staying in a hotel.
  • 2quik4u
lets be honest here Jeff Gordon is the best in the game, dude wasn't up front all day and finishes 6th
  • GoChiefs
Definitely won't need earplugs at Pocono. Binoculars will be key. Always get a scanner or a radio that broadcasts the race. It sucks when you are watching the race and something happens and you're left wondering why. Some nice hotels in that area from what I hear...haven't been there though.

http://www.poconoraceway.com/areainfo.asp list of lodging if any is still available. Rates are usually jacked up for Nascar dates near any track.
For parking, load up the car for a major tailgate, like going camping. Take a portable grill, save some food and drink for after and let traffic thin out.
here is a Pocono link guide to everything http://www.laidbackracing.com/tracks/poconoraceway.html

pocono is a good blue duece track so get the miller lite ready.
  • GoChiefs
Hell yeah it is...or...unfortunately...a good track for the Fedex car.
  • pkebker
How much does a scanner usually cost?
  • j_crazy
been awhile since i've been to a race, but it was like $50 for the weekend (truck race, nationwide, and cup).
  • Speedofsand

Ray Fox turned 94 years young this week. He should be in the next Nascar HoF class. He's already in 5 racing HoF's.

1 more month until the Firecracker 400

ad from this page, win a trip to the race

Trucks in Texas tonite, 9 pm. Austin Dillon on pole. I'll take Johnny Benson in the 18 truck.

Nationwide in Nashville Sat. 8 pm.

6 Hours at The Glen is on Speed at 2 pm Sat. , Jimmie Johnson is going back and forth from Pocono to team with Gurney and Fogarty in the 99.
While Johnson has raced on the 2.45-mile short course at Watkins Glen, scoring three top-five finishes in Sprint Cup competition, this will be his first attempt on the traditional 3.4-mile circuit. He said he's used iRacing simulations to grow accustomed to the longer course.
"Yeah, (Dale Earnhardt) Junior set it up for me," he said. "So, we'll find out after I make a lap or two in practice how accurate it is. It seems like, based on running the part of the track that I'm familiar with, that it's very accurate. So I think it will help. I recognize that there's some really blind corners down in the other section that I've never been on before and I think all the repetition I've made on the computer game should help."

Geoffrey Bodine is in the 36 at Pocono. Molly Hatchet is playing racefest in Stroudsville, Pa. on Sat. nite. Wow, the past is present.

Dario Franchitti can't make it to The Prelude at Eldora, but Tony Kanaan and TRAVIS PASTRANA will race in it. I wonder what kind of race he will have with Ricky Carmichael.

At least Jr. knows how to set up video games...unlike a car. :D

I was at a Pocono race in the late 90's or 2000, and Rusty Wallace took the blue deuce and put that fucker in the turn 1 wall head on at about 210-220 MPH. He lost his brakes and/or steering in the first 10 laps and just never turned it. How he wasn't even hurt is beyond me.

I got the Blue 2 in the league this week, he does run well at Pocono.

Kyle said it was a 'Gibbs decision' that he didn't go to Nashville.

Todd Bodine won the truck race in the 1st race for new sponsor Valvoline
Valvoline, Germain join in business and racing: Valvoline, one of the leading brands of automotive lubricants, announced today that it has entered into a technical partnership with Germain Racing and Germain Motor Company, a top-25 automotive dealership network with headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Valvoline motor oil will be the official motor oil of both entities as well as a team sponsor for Germain Racing entries in NASCAR's three series -- Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck -- and the K&N Pro East Series. The agreement calls for Valvoline to be an associate sponsor at all races Germain Racing enters and a primary sponsor at two truck races and two Nationwide races. The truck races with Valvoline primary sponsorship will be Aug. 18 at Bristol Motor Speedway and Nov. 5 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. The Nationwide primary-sponsored races will be Sept. 4 at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Oct. 15 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Valvoline/Germain Racing partnership will commence this weekend with Valvoline associate sponsorship on Bodine's #30 Tundra in Friday night's truck race at Texas Motor Speedway. Bodine is the points leader in the Camping World Truck Series with six top-five finishes in seven starts.(Valvoline/Germain Racing PR)(6-3-2010)

Roush Fenway crew chief Eddie Pardue was fired last week after his crew's involvement in a fight at a Daytona strip club. Multiple sources confirmed Nationwide Series veteran Pardue was released once management learned of the incident, which occurred in the middle of a Nationwide Car of Tomorrow test at Daytona. Sources say the crew for his #16 Roush Fenway Ford went to the club one night during the test, where a physical altercation with several patrons ensued. No charges were filed, but once word spread of the fight an undisclosed number of crewmen were fired, along with Pardue despite him not being in attendance at the club. One source suggested Roush was making an example with his dismissal in the wake of a miserable season during which their Cup and Nationwide teams have gone winless. Pardue had been a Roush employee for seven years and a Nationwide crew chief for the past four.

    Marty Smith's best work ever.

When Vickers arrived at the ER he was in tremendous pain. The waiting room was packed and his concern spiked, but when he described his symptoms they rushed him back and tried immediately to give him a CT scan.
He had a difficult time lying down for the scan. The pain was too intense. He couldn't breathe. At best, he could take only shallow breaths.
"The whole time I was trying to think, 'Come on, we can fix this, I'll race this weekend,' " he said. "I was asking all the wrong questions. 'I've got to be at the track Friday. Practice starts at 11.'
"And they were looking like at me like, 'Are you crazy? You need to be asking us if you're going to live. Not what time practice starts.' "

... MODERATE RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS INTO TONIGHT...

A STRONG AREA OF LOW PRESSURE TRACKING TO OUR NORTH THIS AFTERNOON WILL PULL A STRONG COLD FRONT ACROSS OUR AREA THROUGH THIS EVENING. A VERY WARM AND MOIST AIRMASS AHEAD OF THIS COLD FRONT COUPLED WITH A STRENGTHENING WIND FIELD ABOVE THE SURFACE, WILL LEAD TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH EARLY TONIGHT. THIS ACTIVITY MAY MOVE THROUGH AS AN INTENSE LINE, HOWEVER ADDITIONAL STORMS MAY FORM AHEAD OF THE MAIN LINE. AS A RESULT, THERE IS A HEIGHTENED POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WINDS WITH THE THUNDERSTORMS. THE WIND PROFILES IN THE LOWER PORTION OF THE ATMOSPHERE MAY BECOME CONDUCIVE ENOUGH TO ALLOW FOR SOME THUNDERSTORMS TO ROTATE, THEREFORE A TORNADO CANNOT BE RULED OUT. IN ADDITION TO THE DAMAGING WIND POTENTIAL, THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING, HAIL AND HEAVY RAIN.

THE THUNDERSTORMS INTO TONIGHT SHOULD BE FAIRLY QUICK MOVERS, THEREFORE IT IS IMPORTANT TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE WEATHER AROUND YOU. PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO WATCHES, WARNINGS AND STATEMENTS THAT ARE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE REGARDING THIS DEVELOPING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM SITUATION.
Looks like the start of race may get pushed back, due to some rain.

After the hour and 45 minute red flag...we are finally about to go green!
  • ts1227
TNT is reminding me why I hate their coverage so much.

Dallenbach and Petty don't really commentate, they just both make noises in unison every time cars touch. "OHHHH" and "WHOAAAA" from the commentators isn't particularly useful at all, and it's annoying as hell.

20 laps to go, Hornish in the lead.
  • ts1227
"Easily avoidable" wreck, as the announcers said, as Hamlin was 2.5 seconds up and coming to take the white flag.

God forbid they let a race end normally anymore... haha
  • ts1227
Kahne gets flipped up almost into the shrubs on the backstretch of the demolition derby bonus laps, but it was the 2nd lap so the race ended.

    Halmin wins.

    Wow......... Logano is super pissed
  • GoChiefs
About time Logano stands up to these guys...they do nothing but bully him around out there on that track...he needs to start pushing back when he gets pushed. Great finish though. To an other wise typical boring Pocono race. Kurt somehow manages a 6th place finish after being back in the 30's all day long. Yeah! Moved up another spot to 5th in the points!
