How the hell does Jimmy Johnson think he's going to be able to race a race car when he has to do the FOX NFL Sunday show during the football season? :huh:Al Capone wrote: Jimmy Johnson was quoted that after he wins his 6th championship he was going to paint his car black and gold in honor of the Pittsburgh Steelers. -
Al CaponeSorry to hijack your thread GoChiefs. I just figured I'd give you a little rise on this boring and ugly Sunday. Looks like it worked. haha

LOL..sorry Capone..nothing anyone says on here gets a rise out of me. It's the interwebz man. What someone says on here...doesn't affect me at all. LOL I know what you were doing..so I have to give you shit back..since the NASCAR driver is JimmIE Johnson. LOLAl Capone wrote: Sorry to hijack your thread GoChiefs. Al CaponeI actually typed Timmy Johnson then changed it. I like watching the last 10 laps of a Nascar race, that's about it.

GoChiefsI was supposed to go to this one..we normally go to every spring Martinsville race. Glad I missed this one! Brother in law said they froze their balls off this morning. Got there about 7:30...drank a lot of beer and hot dogs...for nothing. Now they get to start all over again in the morning.

GoChiefsDAMN! What a finish! How the hell did Hamlin split the 17 and the 20 there? I have no idea how he made it through there! After he made the stop..I thought he was DONE! Bad day for the Number 2...was running strong...then f*cked up the pit stop...made it back up to 6th...then had a wheel loose..had to make an unscheduled pit stop. You can't do that at Martinsville.

SpeedofsandThere was a celebration yesterday in Daytona. Tony Gibson won his first cup race as a crew chief ! Tony grew up in Port Orange, his mom used to manage the ticket office at Daytona. Ryan Newman is a great guy, my dad and a friend were at his shop about 5 years ago, and here comes a 1928 Ford Roadster out of the driveway. My dad knows everything about old cars, especially Ford. Newman was driving it, and stopped to chat with them just to shoot the breeze.

ts1227Kasey Kahne signs with Hendrick for 2011, perhaps replacing Mark Martin? Maybe Junior is getting the fuck out of there?

GoChiefsWow..that's big. Good pickup for Hendricks. Sad that I have to hate Kasey Kahne now. I'd bet he'll drive for Stewart Hass in 2011. And yes..he's probably replacing Martin. Martin's contract is up after 2011. Of course, so is Jr's, but Jr. will resign. Hendricks will keep him around as long as possible no matter if he wins or not. He's still a cash cow with merchandising, and Hendricks has Johnson to get him his trophies.

voewoody^^^
Exactly.. All of the JR haters might as well keep hating because he is going nowhere.. Kahne will drive for SHS in 2011 then take over the #5 in 2012.. Going to be pretty scary if Harvick signs with Stewart-Haas as well when his contract is up. Could you imagine Johnson, Gordon, JR, Kahne, Stewart, Newman and Harvick as a team in 2012?? -
Big Red MonsterKasey will drive for Stewart Haas in 2011.
It wouldnt shock me to see Jr jump to Stewart Haas when his contract is up.
So I will have to be a 1 year Kahne fan. -
ts1227I could see Martin riding off into the sunset next year with Stewart-Haas on a half time schedule or something, all depending on how this year goes.
-

Now they're saying the deal is for the #5 car in 2012, but there is nothing in place for Stewart-Haas next year at this point (could still happen). Even Kahne says he's not sure about 2011 yet. -

Martin is still under contract with Hendricks for next season.ts1227 wrote: I could see Martin riding off into the sunset next year with Stewart-Haas on a half time schedule or something, all depending on how this year goes. -

The way Harvick and RCR has been running this year..I'd be VERY surprised if he left RCR.voewoody wrote: ^^^

When it first broke yesterday the number ESPN was throwing around was 2011 with some shuffling of drivers.GoChiefs wrote:

SpeedofsandRichard said during speedweeks that team is using his name but he doesn't have much to say about running it. Kasey is smart, he owns a handful of successful dirt car teams, like Stewart. As far as Nascar drivers changing, for the last 5 years its been all about who can get the sponsor $$$.
Silly season starts earlier every year. -
SpeedofsandBudweiser didn't go with Dale Jr. because Hendrick has a deal with Pepsi, and it is a business conflict. So, it looks like they won't go with Kahne either. I believe Roush should try to land Budweiser.
-
ts1227Did Budweiser and Hendrick have a rough falling out for other reasons when they left Craven and the 25 car (or was that completely coincident with Hendrick/Gordon getting their Pepsi deal)?
-
GoChiefsRick Hendrick is going to find Kahne a ride for 2011. Says he accepted that as part of their deal. Says he will be driving in a Chevrolet in 2011. So, that narrows down some options. With the relationship of Hendrick and Stewart Haas Racing, I'd say that's the most likely option. Also, looks like Bud going as a sponsor isn't out of the question. Hendrick didn't say no it won't happen. Just said he hasn't contacted them about it. Kahne WILL be in the #5 car replacing Mark Martin. The only reason Bud didn't follow Junior was b/c Hendrick already had commitments.

Kahne is hoping both Bud and Kenny Francis follow him to Hendrick.

SpeedofsandSpeed tv is now showing Big Bill France on their Hall of Fame special.
vintage film of Big Bill driving on the old beach/road course. I was just down there last week and it has changed but the north and south turns are still there. Big Bill was THE MAN. -
SpeedofsandHoly shit the story Ned Jarrett just told while they show pics and video of the first race at Charlotte, a 3/4 mile dirt track. 1949. Crowd sold out, men sitting in tree tops. Ned wanted to get close, he was right on a wooden post at the fence on the frontstretch and something hit the post so hard it knocked him down. He got up and discovered a fan blade came off a car and it was only by the grace of God it hit the post and spared him. Great vintage stuff with Harold Brasington at Darlington, then building Daytona. Open wheel video of a 42 degree banked board track in Maryland. OLD films.

GoChiefsInteresting...turns out..Martin is the one that got the ball rolling on Kahne and Hendrick. Martin says he is NOT retiring in 2012. He will still be racing. He wanted someone else to have a chance with Hendricks. 3 years is enough. Said he actually talked to Burton and Kenseth about it first...but they just laughed it off. Bet they are kicking themselves in the ass now!

I just read that. That's unreal to me and makes me respect Mark Martin even more than I already did, which is tough because I have as much respect for him as anyone out there driving. I'll bet Burton and Kenseth both thought he was just screwing with them, though Kenseth has always been with Roush and Burton seems to be very happy at RCR, so maybe neither of them wanted to leave. But for Mark to go out and personally try to find someone to replace him without speaking to Rick first just shows how great of a guy he is. I would really love to see him win a championship this year or next year because no one deserves it more than him.GoChiefs wrote: Interesting...turns out..Martin is the one that got the ball rolling on Kahne and Hendrick.
