Per source familiar w/ breakdown, Griffin removed himself from consideration when it became clear his vision for CLE didn't match Gilbert's

    Let's be realistic here fellas..
You also said about a week ago neither was a possibility at all and laughed at me.

Uhhh, that sounds bad. Griff is much smarter than Gilbert.

What the hell? That's such random news.

It'll be interesting to hear more details when/if they're released but Gilbert looks foolish right now. Griffin was a huge factor in building a championship team. If you disagree on something, then fine. But don't get to the point where he feels he needs to move on.
  • sportswizuhrd
It sucks for Griffin that Gilbert wouldn't give Orlando and Milwaukee to talk to him about their GM positions.

If I were to speculate on this, the "different directions" was probably Griff wanting to go all in to acquire more talent (PG, Butler, etc) and Gilbert finally saying "we got the ring, enough is enough....find another way to do this....I'm spending too much money." That hasn't been an issue in the past but he could've reached a breaking point.

What's going to suck is that, unless they bring in a really good GM, I think this will be Lebron's last year. He left Miami for partially the same reason (owner nickel & diming). Now don't get me wrong, I think Gilbert's been beyond generous but this is a "what have you done for me lately" type of scenario and, by LBJ's quotes, you can see this is rubbing him the wrong way.

Actually I think this is the opposite. I think Gilbert is worried about the future more than griff is. Some inside sources have said that griff wanted to trade love for a year rental of PG while Gilbert wants jimmy butler since he is in a longer contract. When it first came out about letting griff go I was prettt pissed, but if this is the reason I think I actually side with Gilbert on this. At some point you have to stop draining all your future assets

It's shitty timing since it seemed like a trade was going to happen, but if he left because Gilbert didn't want to trade Love for a 1 year rental, I can't blame both parties for parting ways.

IMO, regardless of what Gilbert does, this happens

You read wayyyy too into things lol Jesus Christ.

It sucks to lose griffin, but remember he was the one who hired David Blatt. He did well in Cleveland, but it's pretty easy to do well with Lebron making moves behind the scenes.

Can we all stop with this Lebron is leaving for LA bullshit? Lebron will turn 34 in the 2018-2019. At 34 his window will be closing and he wants to win rings to polish his legacy resume. Try actually thinking thru this thought process. LA isn't going to put a 34 year old Lebron in position to beat the Warriors. Lebron will go from an easy East to playing for 2nd in the West. If Lebron still wants to win titles, the only 2 realistic teams that give him a better chance than Cleveland to win "right now" are the Spurs and Celtics. Maybe Lebron doesn't give a fuck about winning a title anymore and just wants to coast with his banana buddies to close out his career, but I am willing to bet anything he wants to win more titles. He wouldn't be in the gym getting triggered by the Warriors parade 3 days after losing the finals. Losing Griffin is concerning, especially after Lebron endorsed him, but try thinking this thru before you read every headline jerking off to the prospect of Lebron leaving.

Just like the Cavs weren't going to win the East? Why do you think Lebron is leaving regardless?

    Well, gee....there's this (from above)

And I stated my opinion as to what I thought might have happened. Don't think I was reading "wayyyy too into things" when there was obviously a difference of opinion in philosophies. I may be wrong with my assessment and Crimson Streak may be right....or maybe I'm right but I doubt we ever find out. The bottom line is that they didn't see eye to eye and, in the end, this was likely money driven.

Windy has reported that griff had a trade in place to send love for a lottery pick in which that pick was going to be flipped for pg or butler. Can't really blame either party for deciding to move on. That would be a very risky move by griff and I don't think Gilbert wanted to gamble on that.

Good post. There's a world of difference between Lebron leaving in 2010 vs him possibly leaving in 2018. The only reason it's carrying any weight is because he's done it before. It sucks we have to listen to it for the next 12 months though. Can't wait for a four-game losing streak in January and everyone's like "omg whats wrong with the Cavs is Lebron already thinking about teaming up with Wade in LA"

I think if they bring in Chauncey Billups, and he sucks, or DG starts getting tight with the money it's VERY possible he leaves. Part of the reason he left Miami was because Arison wouldn't pick up a $2.5M option on Mike Miller (believe it was an option).

Why do you have such a hard on for BR?

Gilbert has shown ZERO indication that he's going to be tight with his money. Why do you keep suggesting that?!
