I assumed they both would opt out, resign for a year then get the major payday.

He might actually take the 5 years now, considering he might not want to risk losing a max for next off season.

Yeah I'm gonna have to tune out sports talk for awhile.

I could see that, but at the same time, the difference in MAX deals is something like 40 million dollars. So it wouldn't surprise me if he bets on himself.

Yes. Silly for both not to Opt-out and then sign another 2 year deal with 2nd year player option.

Allows them both to Make more money this offseason, in Love's case an extra 3 millon. Assuming same for LBJ. Then cashing in next season on the bigger deals. Or in LBJ's case continuing to do the 2 year deals to assure himself flexability.

    I follow the logic.

Imagine Love did it for his own personal gain, but I wonder if LeBron opts out it would be to give them more flexibility in signing someone for next season before he gets paid his true worth with the next deal?

    You're trying too hard.

JR Smiff opted out as well. Sources already say he wants to resign.

I'm slightly surprised the Blazers moved Batum. Hope they start a fire sale and send Wes Matthews our way! : thumbup:

    Are you serious?

    1) he's coming off a ruptured achilles

    2) he wants $15M a year

Wouldn't surprise me if Lebron just kept signing one year deals. Looks like Lebron won't be recruiting Love to stay.

What would be the benefit of signing one year deals every year?

And why do you say he won't be recruiting Love?

I had heard somewhere (can't recall) that he could somehow maximize his income by signing one year deals.

Lebron supposedly said he won't be recruiting him. The non-recruiting by LBJ is basically his way of saying to Love "you're an idiot if you leave." Kind of a "Captain Obvious" decision. Disregard all of the gibberish/speculation below the first few paragraphs where Chris Haynes tweet ends...

I just did a Google search and found nothing about him signing one year deals or about how that could maximize his income.

Also read a Miami sun time article titled "love opts out of contract and lebron James doesn't want him back."

Jesus what kind of hack journalism bullshit is that?

    Probably written by Dan LeRetard.

I don't think LBJ doesn't "want" Love back. I just think he's not going to re-recruit him because it's a pretty obvious decision....you stay, get a max deal and have a chance to win multiple rings or you go and likely don't.

An interesting point was brought up about Love. If he leaves because he's unhappy being the "third wheel" and wants to win a championship, almost every situation that he goes to, that could be legit contenders, he's STILL going to be the third option.

Also these Wade rumors are cracking me up. Cavs Nation posted on FB that some dude photoshopped a #3 Cavs jersey on D-Wade on Instagram or Twitter and Wade supposedly started following him. Ridiculous....

    And for the Wiggins lovers....

I'd be fine with 1 year deals.

Because each year you accrue more experience your "max" increases. That's why Kobe's max deal is worth so much more than Lebron's/others. Kobe sucks.

Evidently, (according to Woj) we have another asset teams are interested in trading for...

The Brooklyn Nets and San Antonio Spurs are among teams that have called the Cavaliers about a deal for Sasha Kaun's rights.

The Cavaliers own Kaun's draft rights and teams are lining up as the 30-year-old plans to leave for the NBA. We'll keep Kaun's status updated as we enter free agency, but he won't be much of a fantasy asset next season outside of deeper leagues.
  • sportswizuhrd
I thought maybe they would bring him over to play for the team but I read yesterday that he has retired from Euro ball and wants an NBA deal. Just like Mozgov, he played for Blatt on the Russian National team. If they decide to trade him, at most it will be a few hundred thousand dollars or a conditional 2nd rounder.
  • sleeper
Yeah I'm not sure we get much for a 30 year old who we've stashed overseas for years. 2nd rounder would be generous.

S&L....remind me, was he worth much of a shit on championship team at Kansas?

He was a decent college center. His game just doesn't translate well to the NBA. He's too slow and not athletic enough.

He was like the 7th best player on that championship team, so I highly doubt he'd be top 7'ish on an NBA team.

Cavs will be lucky to get the 60th pick in the draft for him.

He's still a center though, Bigs get paid and are always in demand.

S&L said what I sorta remembered about him, which is why it was so weird earlier this season when I started hearing his name a lot when talking about next impact players to come over from Europe. Wonder if something has changed with him maybe? I doubt it.
