2015-2016 Cleveland Cavaliers World Champions!

Here's what I see. Thompson sees a guy like Khris Middleton getting 14M a over for 5. Many others guy without the upside of TT are getting max or near max deals.

Thompson is still only 24. Arguably, if he was considering a team with tons of cap room or who could easily spend the money on a max deal, he could probably get it. So it's not crazy for him to see himself as a "max player."

However, his stats and his impact on the Cavs are NOT "max player."

In the end, it will probably end up costing the Cavs near that because, well, the market is crazy and guys not as valuable as Thompson are getting what you say he's worth.

Yes but Middleton and those guys are getting those contracts because the team sucks and has the cap space. With the Cavs , they can't just throw that around so freely. Hopefully TT understands that 15/year with championships and a bigger legacy is worth more than 17/year with nothing else.

It's 16 a year but your point is valid. Isn't that near max anyway for a player with his experience level?

Also, you know Lebron James got into his ear about being paid more. Not only do they share agents, but he pulled the same thing with Varejao and cost the Cavs more money per year then it normally would have.

Stuckey is re-signing with Indiana. The options for back-up at the PG spot is running thin and it could end up changing their plans on how to use Haywood's contract in a trade.
  • Mulva
Joe Johnson rumor seems to be gaining steam.
  • Commander of Awesome
Not sure how I feel about that.

I like it..14 ppg and shot almost 45% from the field. WOuld love to send away Haywood and Varejao and receive Johnson and West.

But I doubt Lebron would allow Varejao to be traded..

I like Varejao but he's lost his welcome for me. He's just not worth his contract and although Joe JOhnson is highly overpaid its clear the Cavs do not care about the luxury tax.

    So many questions now...

Do they give TT what he wants?
Is West waiting on LeBron to make his next decision?
Does West come here at all?
Does this trade get done before West signs? If it does and he goes elsewhere, they will need to find a veteran PF somehow to sign for the MLE. Elton Brand? Boozer? Big Baby? Brandon Bass? Chuck Hayes? Drew Gooden? Mbah a Moute? You get my point.
Is LeBron going to be cool with them trading away AV?
    Delly as the back-up PG?
Is this team going to have the biggest payroll(lux tax included) in all of sports?
  • sportswizuhrd
Another question...Why has every Cav story this offseason been reported by Windhorst? Where are the beat writers at?
  • Lovejoy1984
Pretty sure all the Beat writers for NEOMG are on bad terms with the Cavs, so I doubt they'd float anything to them.
  • sportswizuhrd
Even Chris Haynes who just completed his first year? That was fast. He was correct about Love that it wouldn't take long for him to re-sign.

    Yes to all these questions.

Has any light been shed on Thompson's contract holdup? What is the issue?

If you're bored, a decent breakdown of how the Cavs and Thompson both need each other...

I believe it is about money. Thompson agreed but then saw all these marginal players getting big contracts and went "Hey wait a minute, I'm a big shot who just played in the NBA finals and I'm ONLY getting $16M/yr while these scrubs are getting max deals($14-15M)."

The reality is Thompson wants to make more money(duh!). Unfortunately for the Cavs, you have to pay him. He's important to the championship core.

Not to mention he's one of Lebron's dudes so, if you piss off TT, you're probably going to piss off Lebron.

Stand firm at 80 mil. When another team offers him 70 mil at 4 years, match it.

Which I'm seeing the importance in less and less. Obviously we want the best player to be happy but sorry if the roster can't entirely be made up of his best friends. What's his move if Cleveland can't satisfy him 100% - leave again??

Maybe. I think his major reason for leaving the first time was because he didn't have the roster around him he liked. Also think it was a major reason he left Miami. Do I think he'll leave? No, but I think it's been a reason for him bolting before.

Gee, wouldn't it be nice if I played basketball for a living, played with the best player in the world, was going to be the 4th or 5th option on my own team and be able to balk at 15M/year?

Lebron doesn't have as much leverage as he thinks he does. Do you really think he's going to leave Cleveland after 1 year after the letter he wrote and making the NBA finals? Where is he going to go? LA?

Overseas to play for $50 mil a season?

    TT is being stupid here.
