2015 Browns Offseason Thread

I dont think it would be smart to give up on him already, but I would also keep eyes out for another option. Shaw didnt look very good yesterday and missed alot of passes, but even he looked more comfortable in the pocket. JM had the jimmy-legs when he dropped back and he had months as a backup in the system.SportsAndLady;1690445 wrote:Am I the only one not ready to give up on manziel yet? It was 1.5 games I say we let him have next year to see what he can do and go from there.
I dont go into the season thinking JM is the future but ya dont give up quite yet unless you get a very intriguing trade involving him. What it would be? I dont know, but with the salary structure it wont kill them to keep him around for a bit longer.
If I am the browns though I keep a very, very close eye on him this offseason. I wouldnt allow him the leeway that you may give someone else. -

Id like to give him more time but I don't really know how the coaches feel. If they don't think he will ever take it seriously and feel they need to go in a new direction already then I cant really complain. They know the situation much better than I.SportsAndLady;1690445 wrote:Am I the only one not ready to give up on manziel yet? Crimson streakLoved pettines presser. Not afraid to speak his mind and put Gilbert Manziel and Gordon on blast. That's what they need and hopefully they get it straightened out

se-alumAt this point, Manziel has to be behind Shaw. Shaw didn't play great by any means, but he looked much more comfortable in the offense than Johnny. Manziel would have to make enormous strides over the offseason.

Benny The JetIf Manziel is behind Shaw...there's no reason to keep him around. How many chances does this guy need? If your 1st rd pick can't beat out a fellow rookie who was undrafted, cut bait and let him be someone else's headache

se-alumLet me preface this by saying, Skip Bayless is an idiot "shock jock". He said today that he has talked to some people that claim Manziel is just flat out an alcoholic, and claimed those people were close to the organization. I will say this, I've seen how alcoholics act, and he does have some of those tendencies. True alcoholics are great at talking, but their illness keeps them from being able to keep their word on anything. It's a reach that this is true, but wouldn't be surprised if it came out at some point to be true.

The scary part is, he's not even 22 years old yet. This guys career is going to crash and burn if he doesn't sober up.se-alum;1690521 wrote:Let me preface this by saying, Skip Bayless is an idiot "shock jock". friendfromlowryHas there been any word on where Hoyer and the Browns stand? Does he want to come back, do the Browns want him back, how much he wants, etc. I still think the Browns need him way more than he needs them.

All I've seen is he said he would love to stay with the Browns even if manziel is still here. I guess a reporter said there's rumor he wouldn't wanna stay here if manziel was here. He squashed those rumors. Good ol Cleveland media.friendfromlowry;1690545 wrote:Has there been any word on where Hoyer and the Browns stand? BR1986FBA little late to the party but, no thanks on Rex Ryan as the DC. A) I don't think he gets along with Pettine, B) as was mentioned, he's probably seeking a HC gig and C) I think O'Neil is doing a helluva job. Get some run stuffers in there and a QB who can put the offense in the end zone and this team wins quite a few games. Yesterday sucked because, with an offense, they probably win that game.
As far as Jat Cutler goes, no thanks. Besides the diva attitude that was mentioned, I want no part of him because of his health (Type 1 diabetic). I've heard a bit that some think part of his performance issue is because of fatigue due to the health issue. He's supposedly fine early on in the game but fizzles as the game progresses.
As far as Manziel? Love to still back him but he's making it very hard to do so. I've also heard the "he's an alcoholic" stuff awhile back.
Gordon can go to Hell. He's doing everything to get booted out of Cleveland. Gilbert gets a "warning" lol, since this is his first offense. -
Pick6No thanks on Bradford and Cutler lol.
Hoyer won't be back either under normal circumstances. I'll leave the forum for good if I'm wrong on that one.
Even though he couldn't have looked worse, you have to give Manziel at least half of next season. My bet is they bring in an experienced vet behind him. Nobody coming to mind right now though. -

I'd be more inclined to give Shaw half a season. He actually looked like he knew what he was doing even though he was playing scout team safety and WR for 16 weeks.Pick6;1690555 wrote:No thanks on Bradford and Cutler lol.

No matter how much you want to give up on Manziel, its not going to happen.se-alum;1690567 wrote:I'd be more inclined to give Shaw half a season. He actually looked like he knew what he was doing even though he was playing scout team safety and WR for 16 weeks. -

Come on. Shaw should not be starting in the NFL. Nice team guy and probably a great backup to have. But if we are going into next year with him as starter we will be staring down the #1 overall pick in 2016.se-alum;1690567 wrote:I'd be more inclined to give Shaw half a season. shook_17Lol at the idea of giving Shaw half a year.

Definite feeling after #Browns GM Ray Farmer's presser that Josh Gordon won't be back. May take 5 min. into their staff meetings next week for the team to decide on Gordon. You'd have to think the Browns will try and trade Gordon before outright waiving him, but a split seems likelier by the day. -

Agreed. The only plus he really shown was that he didnt get happy feet in the pocket. As a steelers fan, I would love for the browns to commit to Shaw as their starter!SportsAndLady;1690599 wrote:Come on. Shaw should not be starting in the NFL. Gordon....trade the bum. He is one bad day away from another suspension. You find out a lot about a player's character on how he reacts when there isnt anything really on the line. Wont get much but send the bum to a wasteland like Oakland, or Jax. -

He also thought Pettine could be fired after Sunday's game.Dr. KnOiTaLL;1690634 wrote:[INDENT]Tony Grossi‏@TonyGrossi

Of course he "could" have been. It just happened the previous season to Chud after a similar collapse occurred. The biggest difference in this year and last year is that we lost a Pro-Bowl center and a Pro-Bowl free safety for large portions of the season, and pretty much played without a Pro-Bowl wide receiver the entire season. I think the discipline that has/is taking place helped secure Pettine's job, as Chudzinski simply wasn't cut from the cloth that Haslam was looking for, IMO. I viewed Pettine being fired as very unlikely; however, Gordon has been given MANY more chances and continues to waste them. I would almost guarantee that we dangle him in trades during the off-season, and at this point, I won't be upset if we deal him. Losing that kind of talent sucks, but he's been a major distraction much of his tenure with the team, and as soon as his contract ends he's going to bolt anyways, so we might as well get something out of him.like_that;1690639 wrote:He also thought Pettine could be fired after Sunday's game. -

Crimson streakI think Gordon gets 1 more year. This offseason will be huge for him. He needs to stay out of trouble. Unless a team blows us away with a trade I believe he will be here next season
