So did I read this correctly that Bortles signed for $20m and JFF $8 each for four years.

JFF $8 over 4 years, team option for a 5th year. Bortles, $20M over 4 years, team option for 5th year.

Makes sense to me. Not much bickering can be done by these rookies with the new rookie wage scale. JFF was selected almost 20 picks after Bortles.

    True.
Loving this new CBA and i bet the franchises are as well!

Also..the team option for the 5th year as sleeper talked about is pretty much standard now for the rookie contracts.

Yeah... 4 years for $8M is a steal for JFF lol, and I don't even like him.

I completely agree with all of the responses to my post. We have a WAY more solid D and an O-Line to protect. But this is the NFL. Even though they are trying to wrap their players in "NERF", rookies will still take hits. I also agree with the decision making aspect of the argument. Johnny Football needs to lean the fundamentals of football before he ever see's a field. He threw a lot of passes in college up for grabs....and who do we have to go get them?

Overall, I don't see Manzeil as a bad draft choice. Especially where we got him....but he is a work in progress. He isn't an instant solution in my eyes. I'm not upset with the pick....I just hope that we use him the right way!

Agreed. I'd love for him to watch film of Russell Wilson to take away how smart Russell is when it comes to running, scrambling around behind the LOS, and hit avoidance.

Read that in the morning. Definitely a great read. Of course I get an espn notification about how "tom Brady suggests the pats have copy of jets play book." That's what espn got out of that article lol. I wouldn't expect anything less from the tmz of sports.

Pettine is a very refreshing change of pace from the morons we have had in here. I can't believe Romeo/ Shurmur were EVER head coaches.

I enjoyed that article. I really want this guy to succeed in Cleveland. Not just because I'm a Browns fan, but because he seems to embrace the toughness that I thought the Browns franchise has portrayed, regardless of the results we've had.

Who better to coach/teach Manziel on the importance of being smart/staying healthy than Kyle Shanahan who saw the best of times and the worst of times with RGIII?

Don't buy into Manziel sitting at all. Simply, he has a much better skillset wise than the undrafted quarterback from Mich. State. Growing pains? Yup. Russ Wilson didn't set the world on fire the first half of his rookie season. In year 2 their team pounded Peyton Manning and company in the Super Bowl.

Johnny Manziel is NOT Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson probably spent a lot more time in his playbook and studying film than partying in Vegas and calling people on his money phone. Don't get me wrong, I want JFF to succeed because I'm a Browns fan, but he in no way, shape, or form is ready to lead a franchise, as proven by his repetitive antics.

LOL. Russell Wilson does not have anywhere near the natural talent that Manziel possesses. Erst the 3rd round draft status of Wilson. Drinking on the weekend does not offer any premonition of NFL failure. Don't buy into the media crap. Just embrace the reality that Cleveland finally has a stud under center. The sooner you and others understand this the quicker you be able to enjoy the ride.

Great. Now we get to see Manziel crash & burn.....

Does Manziel have the edge in the talent department, yes. However, talent doesn't always equate to success in professional sports, and you obviously know that since you apparently know everything. Wilson still is quite talented, or he wouldn't be under center for the super bowl champs. However, at this point in his career, Wilson has a significant advantage in discipline, leadership, and decision-making skills. Plenty of talented athletes have had their careers derailed because they simply couldn't keep it together off of the field. THAT is what worries me about Manziel. I don't doubt his ability or potential, but much like Gordon, I doubt his off-the-field decision making. To this point, he has done nothing to change my suspicion in that area.

Mid-afternoon doldrums at work, where even throwing ideas at brick walls is more interesting than actual work?

Hi guys, long time no talk. This off season needs to speed up!
  • lhslep134

I clicked on the link to the "money phone" video since I hadn't seen it yet, and part of the article was this quote from Pettine that I really thought was relevant:

"I think there's a lot of our guys when they leave here, that if they were followed around, you'd get some very similar pictures. I don't know about an inflatable swan, but I think you'd still get some pictures."

I can't help but notice that footwedge hasn't responded to my post... Anyways, this type of behavior worries me. Not that a little partying is a problem here or there, but it's evident this kid has a problem with drinking. The article quote his father saying that he offered him a car AS A JUNIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL to stop drinking, and he still didn't stop. The only thing that I find comfort in is the fact that his contract is only $8M over 4 years.
