2013/14 Random NHL Chatter

NHL season kicks off tomorrow night with the Caps and Blackhawks on NBCSN. Biggest changes are, of course, the new divisional alignment with the Red Wings and Blue Jackets headed east.

I hope the Jackets can continue their torrid pace from the last half of last year, but am not hopeful as it will require BOBROVSKY to stand on his head for 82 games. Can it happen? Yes. Will it? Probably not.

Also excited to see Horton, but will have to wait as he's out for the first few months of the year. Here's hoping he and Gabby are the offensive spark we need to compete for the whole season.

Better watch while you can, he'll be sidelined soon enough.

    Likely true.

Players approved hybrid icing yesterday, to start tonight: http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/9750731/nhl-players-approve-hybrid-icing-rule-start-season

    Like the change.

Don't think Bob will be able to carry a .932 sv% all year. Unless he plays in the Bruins system.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the Pens this year. Beau Bennett should have a breakout year.

Id like to see the CBJ compete for the division. Any chance of it?
  • TedSheckler
They will compete for a playoff spot. Not for the division.

Detroit is going to thrive in the East. A much less physical conference and no jet lag will help this veteran team a lot

CBJ will have to compete with the Pens and Rags for top spot. Look out for the Islanders to challenge big time this year.

Idk why Cleary made the team over Tatar or Nyquist. It is so angering when veterans are kept just to keep them, play your best players coach

I was expecting a big big year from Nyquist (and the line we saw in the playoffs in general). Stunned to see him not on the roster yesterday.

Patrick Roy did exactly what you'd expect Patrick Roy to do in his first game as head coach last night.

It's cause Babcock and Holland are being far too loyal to their veterans. This isn't how you win titles, the Blackhawks cleared space for guys like Leddy and Saad, shit even the Tigers cut Inge after 8 years. To have Dan Cleary and Andersson in over Nyquist and Tatar is just foolish, especially when scouts and analysts say these are potential top 6 forwards currently

Tatar and Nyquist should both request a trade. Both these guys are ready for a top 6 role and they just bring in more vets. Very bad move by Holland. Imo.

Also, what else would you expect from Roy? Hot head player is a hot head coach. Yapping at a player? Come the fuck on.

Smh, do you have to relate everything to the tigers?

Well, now that they're in this weaker conference where teams won't play them physically or anything, I'm sure they're going undefeated.

    Oh...wait...

Can't wait until the playoffs, not sure they can hang with Boston, Philly, NYR, Pitt, Washington, NJ, who will grind on them through a 7 game series.

The Flyers have canned Laviolette; fastest firing in NHL history (relative to the start of a season): https://twitter.com/DNFlyers/status/387209321341145088

I will say the move will be good for Detroit in at least 1 way. The travel to the West Coast can be brutal on the Midwest teams playing in the West.

Tigers are one of the best franchises currently in their sport.

And yeah maybe more physical is the wrong word even though the best defensive systems are in the West, but since the first lockout the west have won the head to head series every year
