2013 Cleveland Browns Thread: RIP Chud

  • like_that
Hate to pat myself on the back (mainly because it isn't a big deal), but before the 2012 draft I kept saying the Browns SHOULD NOT take a RB with a top 4 pick, and they BETTER NOT reach for a 28 year old QB just because "he is nfl ready, and would be a better option than McCoy." I wanted Kalil or to trade down and get more picks, since this team desperately needed them. Instead Heckert/Holmgren were desperate to jump start this team immediately, and they tried to take some short cuts, after sticking with their fucking 5 year plan to begin with. They traded one of the picks to move up to the 3rd pick to get Trich for fucks sake. Well surprise, Weeden sucks ass, and as the other RBs that were drafted after Richardson have shown, RBs are dime a dozen, and do not need to be picked in the first round, period. Richardson showed some flashes, but I just don't see him being an elite RB. He may be one, but I just don't see it. He doesn't seem to have that burst that the top RBs in the league have. The consolation in this is we at least got our first round pick back. Now only if we could get our first round pick back for Weeden, smh. I see the Colts being anywhere from 8-8 to 10-6. Sorry Laley, I have nothing against the Colts, but I will be rooting for them to lose every game now.

The saddest part about this is our defense will be going to waste. This defense is a solid defense, and I can't imagine how much better they would be if the offense actually kept them off the field and put up points. If our offense ever becomes competent, by then the defense will be complete dog shit. Also, what does a move like this do to the players' morale? We have guys on contract years and they see a move like this they think "well this team sure as hell is doing nothing to help us win now or anytime soon... fuck this shit I am playing somewhere." I can see us losing defensive players with that mentality.

Is Trich going to play this weekend?

I would also like to say, I think we on the OC collectively could have done a better job than our front office(s) in the last 6 years. I seriously believe that.

Yeah I dont think hardly anybody (maybe BR) was a fan of taking rich that high and weeden that high or at all that year.

I was with my good friend from work that year who didnt like the trade up, but also wasnt made about it cause Richardson was the guy he wanted. I was shaking my head the whole time. Just take a RB in the 2nd round.

Hell, wasnt Gio Bernard the #1 RB taken last year...and it was in the 2nd round???

I mean, Im not sure I waste a 1st on a RB in general, and sure as shit dont trade up for one and sure as shit even more dont trade up ONE FUCKING spot form 4 to 3 for one.

Yeah Heckert got played on trading up 1 with the Tampa 'bluff' just like he got played taking Weeden in the first with the New England 'bluff'. Fail all around.

Dan Gilbert doesn't understand most things involving draft picks.

Not if you are looking at their maturity levels, which are on similar levels.

Yet this is true for about 10-20% of potential NFL draft picks. For every Ryan Leaf or JaMarcus Russell, I can show you a Brandon Marshall, Jason Babin, etc...

There are lots of guys who aren't ready for the NFL or have character issues who perform well and turn out fine. There are also great character guys who have the maturity of a 35-year old vet and they don't make it.
  • Rotinaj
I wouldn't mind at all if they took Manziel with the Colts pick if they aren't sold on someone like Teddy B with their top 2 overall pick.
  • shook_17
I was definitely on the Doug Martin / David Wislon train with the late first round pick and blAckmon Khalil 3rd overall pick. T rich is an awesome person.Rbs are a dime a dozen.

    Same shit different year.
  • Azubuike24
Discussing Teddy Bridgewater with a #1 overall pick is crazy...

Next year's QB class is pretty solid and it's starting to show that you don't need a top end pick to find a QB. Heck, look at the QB's in the top 5 the last decade...

    Carson Palmer, #1 (03)
    Eli Manning, #1 (04)
    Philip Rivers, #4 (04)
    Alex Smith, #1 (05)
    JaMarcus Russell, #1 (07)
    Matt Ryan, #3 (08)
    Matt Stafford, #1 (09)
    Mark Sanchez, #5 (09)
    Sam Bradford, #1 (10)
    Cam Newton, #1 (11)
    Andrew Luck, #1 (12)
    Robert Griffin, #1 (12)

1 of those guys is out of the NFL, 3 of them are fringe NFL starters who have all been recycled and none I'd say are top 5 in the NFL. Maybe 1 or 2 could be argued they are top 12 in the league...
  • wildcats20
There are 12 better QBs than Eli, Luck, RG3, Stafford and Matt Ryan?
  • Rotinaj
Maybe 1 or 2 top 12??? How about maybe 4 or 5 of them.
  • Azubuike24
I'd say Ryan, Eli and Stafford are top 12. I stand corrected RGIII and Luck, certainly COULD be there.

    Rodgers
    Brady
    Manning
    Roethlisberger
    Brees
    Romo
    Flacco

I'd put RGIII, Newton, Luck, Wilson, Kaepernick and to a lesser extent, Tannehill, Dalton in the potential category but too early to tell.

You then have guys like Vick and Cutler who have been on the extreme high and low, but could potentially perform top 10 any given year.

    Better than Eli, absolutely.

Marshall and Babin aren't in positions of leadership though, which is what a qb is.

    IMO, Chadiha nails it here.

The Browns weren't going anywhere with Richardson as their franchise back. That had to be the biggest factor in this trade, and it's the major reason why Browns fans should be happy when the 2014 draft arrives. Thanks to this deal, Cleveland now has two first-round selections to go with two each in the third and fourth rounds. That should be more than enough for this new regime, led by general manager Michael Lombardi and head coach Rob Chudzinski, to create the franchise it envisions. As long as the Browns don't waste their options, they should emerge with something resembling a solid foundation for the future.
BOOM. Now, its just up to the Front Office to not fuck it up again...

OC Hive mind definitely could've done a better job IMHO.

like_that, I completely agree with you. OC wouldn't have played penis flickers with Erica Womangini and Patty Boy's agent that's for fucking sure. Addition by subtractionright there. Would have LOVED to have been there for Shurmur's interview. "So umm patty boy, your offense is ranked 27th in the fucking league with a top #1 draft pick at QB and a pro bowler at RB. WTF are you doing here?" Would have ended with us loling him out the door telling him to fuck off.

I love the player, but we need to look at this objectively. We just traded someone who hasn't proven himself worth the 3rd overall pick for a 1st rounder in a loaded draft that also helps our draft position by making us a worse team.

We have 7 picks in the first 4 rounds, and like we've talked about all offseason in our optimism on this team, we actually could be a franchise QB and only a couple of pieces away from the playoffs.

Agreed. People having brain aneurysms over trading what has been an average at best RB. You'd think we just traded Jim Brown.

Richardson wasn't their guy so it didn't come as a surprise to me. I may be wrong but I doubt he ever amounts to anything really special.

It's pretty obvious the direction they are headed just due to the fact they are starting Hoyer. "Look at the 3rd stringer to see if he's got anything. If he does, you have a keeper. If he doesn't you have a very high draft pick. You already know what you have in Campbell.

In the mean time, stockpile draft picks in case you need ammo to trade up to get your QB." To me, it looks like they won't have to worry about that in that they will probably be picking top 3 again. Everyone seems to want Bridgewater but, UNFORTUNATELY, I think the pick could end up being Manziel.

Exactly. You'd think the guy was a HOFer by some of the meltdowns.

The ones I DO feel bad for are Joe Thomas & DQ Jackson. They were under the impression that things were "different." Now they have to be thinking "here we fucking go AGAIN."
