2013 Cleveland Browns Thread: RIP Chud

Again, doesn't matter if the QB is Jesus Christ on rollerskates. If the O-Line sucks and the receivers can't catch, same shit, different year.

Probably the right move "long term" but it's always long term. It just sucks and I feel bad for the people that spend their hard earned money on season tickets. I hate that I was once again feeling pumped after a decent preseason that the Browns might be watchable. Swindled again.
  • BoatShoes
We're talking about a town with a fan base that voted an obscure, mediocre short yardage back onto the cover of Madden over Michael Vick out of fan devotion and their team is literally throwing in the towel in the most obvious way I've seen in the NFL (at least from what I can remember). I understand the desire to plan long term but the blatant waving of the white flag just sucks.

In all honesty all the Lions did was get a really good QB, really good WR and a great D-Lineman and they became a playoff team. So maybe a Clowney and Manziel combo would almost get you there and then pick up a few other good players with all the cap space
  • BR1986FB
Due to the Richardson trade, Clowney & Manziel have announced that they will return for another year of eligibility with their respective teams.
  • Automatik
I'd hope the Manziel talk would cool off. Do you really want to deal with that circus?

I like Manziel and think he has the potential to succeed in the NFL, but right now....give me Bridgewater.

This is what I worry about. I don't know if Andrew Luck always considered going back to school for his senior year but I always wonder if having the train wreck Panthers own the #1 pick in 2011 factored into it. I worry that a lot of the top QB's people talk about are underclassmen and the QB crop may not be as good as people anticipate.

This. It doesn't matter who we throw out there; he's gonna look like David Carr in 2002 if the receivers can't get open and our line plays like ass.

I know he didn't rush for 1500 and 15 TDs like we pictured him doing, but he was still a solid player on a pretty bad offense. And we traded him. That more than likely makes this offense un-watchable. In week 3. SMH.

But long-term it's most likely the right move...problem is, regime after regime, they have FAILED in the draft, especially with these situations (multiple first round picks, 7 picks in the first 4 rounds, etc.). And I'm not so sure Lombardi has the ability to draft a stacked draft and actually get this franchise going in the right direction.

All I know is..they better fucking draft a QB with a top 3 pick. This talk about QB or Clowney...give me a fucking break.

Also...don't be surprised if we made this trade to have "move up" ammo in next year's draft. Say we finish 5th in the draft, we could use this extra first round pick and maybe one of the 3rd or 4ths to move up spots to take the best QB in the draft.
Glad you came to your senses...ha.

Clowney is pretty damned good, no doubt about that, and on the right team you will see him dominate at times.

But if your choice is between a franchise QB, or a franchise DE/OLB, you have to choose the QB especially in this day and age of football. You can gameplan against a great defender and limit what he does, but a great QB is a QB and you have to go that route.

Dont know if Manzeil is the guy, but the browns need a QB first and foremost

Very odd....the Browns are now supposedly dangling a 3rd round pick to JAX for MJD? WTF?
  • Pick6
seriously...does Clowney even fit in a 3-4? They better not take him regardless.

Where are you hearing that and why would they do that? He just fucking got hurt.

Not to mention he is on a contract year...

That's bullshit. Look at Aaron Rodgers O line when they went to the Super Bowl and won. It wasn't great. With a good QB you are in the right path. Then you build your O line.

Is is REALLY "bullshit" because the last time I checked, if your receivers can't catch you're not going to do shit unless you're passing the ball to yourself. You're just assuming the receivers automatically get better with a new QB. Even Super Glue isn't helping Greg Little's sorry ass.

Well then they would rebuild the defense around whatever scheme fits him best so they have a built in excuse for a couple of seasons that they need the right personnel for the D they are running....

Everyone saying that Bridgewater (or whoever) wont have weapons...uhhhh....didnt we JUST GO OVER IT???

Take Teddy #1, take a WR with the Colts pick (you will get a very good WR at that point in the draft) and he is your #2 behind Gordon, take a RB with the #33 spot (might be the 1st RB taken...).

FA to build the line (which is still pretty good, I think. Im shocked at how bad they have been).
  • BR1986FB
Still would need veteran WR's. Can't rely on a rookie or a 3rd year player who likes the purple drank. Besides, I'm skeptical Gordon is even a Brown next year.

My point is, if its the offensive skill positions youre worried about, they can be taken care of with the first 3 picks.

One slight flaw in your reasoning.

They have to draft the right guys, and that hasnt been the strong suit of the browns.

BUt then again, the bengals for the longest time were horrid, and then Mikey boy brown hit it big in a couple of drafts and now they are probably winning the AFCN this year.

Ive said that in my posts earlier. The trade isnt bad if they dont fuck it up. Its a big if, cause they always do. But if they dont, they can EASILY be a better offense next season.

Easier said than done though. I'm not comparing whatever QB we get to Tom Brady but right now he's going through "pains" because his WR's suck. If this regime doesn't go out and get proven/legit veteran receivers and relies on rookies/2nd year players for a first year QB, we're looking at the same mess/growing pains that they went through last year all over again.

Oh I agree it wasnt a bad trade at all. The thing people look at is they picked him at 3 and will get probably a 18-25 back in return, when in reality it was a stretch to pick him at that spot.

IF they do it right, the browns could be a team to be reckoned with in 2-3 years.
