New England, New Orleans and, it can be argued, Green Bay don't have a true #1 either....just a LOAD of weapons.BTrev;1066629 wrote:Sorry. See my post above.
I wouldn't consider Philadelphia's receiving corps to be among the NFL's elite. I see your point about Heckert though. -

Scott Wright really is a hack. Just so happens that he now has the same picks for the Browns that Count Chocula has us taking just a few days earlier.Commander of Awesome;1066608 wrote:http://www.draftcountdown.com/sub/Mock-Draft-A.php -

Yeah... because they're all #1s. Take Gronk, Hernandez, or Welker... Colston, Graham, or Meachem... Jennings, Nelson, or Findlay... Austin, Bryant, Robinson, or Witten... Nicks, Cruz, or Manningham... put one of them in Cleveland, and they're instantly the #1.BR1986FB;1066639 wrote:New England, New Orleans and, it can be argued, Green Bay don't have a true #1 either....just a LOAD of weapons.
They're not considered #1s because they're in groups of elite talent... not because they don't have "it." -
MulvaI think something like this would be close to an ideal scenario for me at this point.
Free agency: Marques Colston (WR), Jared Gaither (RT)
Draft: Trade back to the 9-12 range, add a 2nd rounder this year and maybe (hopefully) a 3rd-4th rounder next season
1a) Kendall Wright (WR)
1b) Zach Brown (OLB)
2a) Ingram (if it's determined he can succeed as a 4-3 DE in the NFL)/Mercilus/Branch/Crick (DE) in that order, depending on who's available
2b) Kelechi Osemele (OG) ability to slide to RT if Gaither's back gives out
3) Chris Polk (RB)
Pros: Upgrade the right side of the line, add 2 receivers - possession (Colston) and speed (Wright), add a workhorse running back, add an athletic freak of a playmaking OLB, add a pass-rusher to play opposite of Sheard
Cons: QB position not addressed - McCoy gets another year, obviously no way of knowing if all of these guys will be available in the draft or if there will be any interest from FAs
That's all assuming Griffin isn't available at 4. It's not even close to the way I expect the Browns to actually go, but it would make me happy. -
BR1986FB
Precisely and that's what I think Heckert will look to do. In a WCO, they like to spread the ball around. Better to have a bunch of really good receivers versus a #1 who gets most of the targets. He will get a bunch of nice talent vs one elite type WR.BTrev;1066751 wrote:They're not considered #1s because they're in groups of elite talent... not because they don't have "it." -

What do they do if they can get RG3 at #4. What would you like them to do at #22, #37, 2B, #68, etc. -

I'm fine with that... but it's probably going to take a couple years, at least.BR1986FB;1066774 wrote:Precisely and that's what I think Heckert will look to do. Better hope that Heckert and Holmgren are in it for the long haul, or that they don't get canned anytime soon. -

Were it not for his inordinate salary for doing next to nothing, Holmgren would be back in Seattle already right now. He doesn't care much for the city or our fans as evidence by how he continually lashes out at them and the media for daring to question why things haven't gotten better yet more than 2 years into his regime. -

Depends what they did in FA. Example - if they sign someone like Colston, I'd still take Wright if he's available at 22 (doubtful), but I wouldn't go with Jeffery or Sanu because that still leaves you with nobody to really stretch the field.BTrev;1066778 wrote:Interesting.

I'd hope for Wright, Brown with 37, and Polk in the 3rd. The "2B" pick wouldn't exist. It only existed in my scenario because the Browns traded back from 4 and acquired it.
However it turns out, I want them to add 2 receivers (one deep threat and one big target), do something to shore up the right side of the line, and add a playmaker or pass rusher to the D. If they bring back Hillis that would obviously impact having to draft an RB. -

Wouldn't getting upset because the media is not patient mean he does care and doesn't like how they aren't patient?IggyPride00;1066932 wrote: He doesn't care much for the city or our fans as evidence by how he continually lashes out at them and the media for daring to question why things haven't gotten better yet more than 2 years into his regime.

This really sounds like a guy who is all in and here for the long haul doesn't it. This was his interview with the Seattle radio station this year.Mitch: How long you going to do this? In 10 years are you going to be the President of the Cleveland Browns?
Holmgren: Well, you know it’s hard to tell for sure. I’m pretty sure it’s not going to be 10 years. We still have our home in Seattle. The kids are there. The grandkids are there. I don’t think they’re going to be moving anytime soon. Our vision is to get back into that area at some point. Exactly when that is? I’d like to see improvement here and lay the foundation here so that they can feel good about the team again before I make any changes.
No talk of sticking it out, building a title contender, nothing of the sort.
He is here for the paycheck, which is the largest of any executive in the NFL if I'm not mistaken.
Heckert is the only really smart thing he has done thus far in his regime. He made the call personally on McCoy and Shurmur, neither of which are looking very good right now.
He is a HOF coach, but as we saw with Seattle is a bottom rung executive. Just because you're good at one doesn't make you good at the other, and vice versa. -
BR1986FBHeard an interview with Quinton Coples on 92.3 this afternoon and something jumped out at me that Bull & Fox didn't pick up. They asked him about his numbers between his junior (better #'s) and senior year. He said his junior year he played at LDE, where he felt more comfortable (sound familiar) and "did anything to help the team" by moving to RDE his senior year (where he wasn't as comfortable. We need a RDE, correct?
They also interviewed Mike Adams. Very smart guy. Well spoken. Has been worked in at RT at Senior Bowl practices but sounds like he'd prefer to play LT. Lifelong Steeler fan growing up in PA. -

LT's make more money and command a bigger premium, makes sense that is where he would want to play.Has been worked in at RT at Senior Bowl practices but sounds like he'd prefer to play LT. -
BR1986FBAs soon as Holmgren's 5 year are up he's outta here...maybe sooner. Hopefully Heckert sticks around...

Understood. I think he'd be a mediocre LT but think he could excel at RT.IggyPride00;1067003 wrote:LT's make more money and command a bigger premium, makes sense that is where he would want to play. -

I agree 1000%. He seems to really know what he is doing, which in Cleveland sports front offices in general is not often seen.BR1986FB;1067004 wrote:As soon as Holmgren's 5 year are up he's outta here...maybe sooner. Hopefully Heckert sticks around... -

ytownfootballAdams was OK, not a great but not terrible either. The one thing you have to keep in mind is that Bollman was his position coach and he had done very, very little as far as developing players (some would argue this but a ton of recruits entered highly touted and are leaving unimproved and not highly touted). So I guess what I'm saying is he has room for improvement as an upside.
