Cleveland Browns 2011 Super Awesome In-Season Thread

OQBWe need a back like the Chiefs' Charles or even a Reggie Bush type back to change the pace... somebody that can lineup in the slot and catch passes and run the ball.
-
BR1986FBThey will draft or grab a FA change of pace back. Heckert is going to be looking for his next Westbrook or Shady McCoy.

didn't they compare hardesty to brian westbrook? i thought i seen an article last year comparing the two i could be wrong. like jester said bush would be a huge upgrade over mike bell. bush is 6'1 weighs in at 225 and ran a 4.55 at his combine. ( http://football.about.com/od/nflplayerprofiles/p/michaelbush.htm ) how about nolieve divine in the 4th.
1st. patrick peterson
2nd. titus young or cameron hayward
3rd. casey mathews
4th. noel divine
5th. cecil shorts
i can dream. i would really like that draft. there are just so many damn holes in this team it sucks. -
shook_17im watching NFL live right now. cam newton did a media work out today. and trent dilfer just said the work out sky rocketed him to the top 3 picks. trent said hes the "complete package", could holmgren and heckert change there mind if they feel he could be the guy to lead us? just throwing food for thought

I feel like you hear a story like this about every QB in the draft every year...it's all a crapshoot. -
JesterI want no part of Cam Newton as our QB.

that my friend is a true story. i think he can be a very good qb in the league. -
se-alumCount me in as wanting no part of Cam Newton. I just don't see him being a good NFL QB anytime soon, if ever. He has to show me he can read a defense.

Well he can't show anyone he can read an NFL defense until he's actually in the NFL, no college QB can. Let's get the elephant out of the corner now....most people don't see Newton as a high prospect because of his off the field problems and because he's black. If he were white, people would be calling him the next Roethlisberger because he shares many of Big Ben's traits (big guy, avoids tackles, strong arm, pretty good accuracy, mobile).
Here's what I know about Newton....he did only play essentially one year, but in that year he led his team to a national championship and performed well against the best competition in college football. I don't see how you can say he isn't better than Vince Young coming out of college from the perspective of him being an NFL prospect. He has a much stronger and more accurate arm. I'm not sure if he's the best fit for the Browns, but if I were a team in need of a quarterback....I would sure as hell take him over Gabbert and Mallett.
I also don't see him being another Young/Leaf/Russell because I think he has some mental toughness. The fact that he went through the whole season with everything in the media about him and his dad, possibly being suspended, etc. and was STILL able to take that team to a NC and perfect season......says a lot about his focus. -

+1
He may look good in Auburn Orange....but not in Browns Orange. -
BR1986FBI don't know about your thoughts but the way I see it, Heckert has a TON of work to do.
On defense I only see 4 "locks" (Haden, Ward, Fujita & Rubin) as starters. On offense I see 5 locks (McCoy, Hillis, Watson, Thomas & Mack).
So it's very feasible that Heckert is going to need to find somewhere between 10-13 new starters (maybe there's someone else on the roster who they see as starters). -

Make your mind up...honestly hook, you make some of the dumbest claims on here about the browns. -

Certainly has nothing to do with him being black or his off the field issues. He was in a 1 read and run/improvise offense @ Auburn. Its certainly valid to wonder if he could play in an offense where he has to go through 3 or 4 progressions. Are you trying to be the our resident Sharpton by throwing race into a conversation where it doesn't belong? -
like_thatBased off McCshay's recent mock draft, 2/3 of the first round will be defense. There is going to be a lot of offensive talent available in the 2nd round.

I'd probably add Gocong and Brown to the locks on defense. That still leaves 3 DL, a LB and a safety. I'd also count one of the receiver that we have. I know they suck, but I don't see us adding 3 guys that could start over them. 2 is much more realistic which means one will still be starting, probably Massaquoi. -
OQBHere is who I would like to draft by position and in the order from favorite to least favorite:
DL: Da'Quan Bowers, Nick Fairley, Robert Quinn, Marcel Dareus, Adrian Claiborne, JJ Watt
LB: Von Miller, Casey Mathews, Bruce Carter, Akeem Ayers, Ross Homan, Steven Friday
DB: Patrick Peterson, Prince Amukamara, Chimdi Chekwa
WR: Titus Young, Jeff Maehl, Austin Pettis, Leonard Hankerson, , Cecil Shorts, Armon Binns, Tandon Doss
OL: Gabe Carimi, Mike Pouncey, James Brewer, Anthony Castonzo, Derek Sherrod
RB: Noel Devine, Jeramy Avery, DeMarco Murray, Jacquizz Rodgers,
TE: Kyle Rudolph, Lance Kendricks, Brett Huffman
QB: Andy Dalton, Greg McElroy
All would be upgrades from what we have now. I would be happy with any of these picks. -
grodtNo A.J. Green?
-
OQBNo, I personally do not like wasting a top 10 pick on a WR....the draft is full of really good WCO-type recievers. I think with the players the Browns just released signifies they are going front 7 with that first pick.

we almost have to now. the only experience that is for sure coming back rubin. shaffering is a FA, i think robaire smith retires and the rest they cut. -

I see him being a top 5 realistically but definitely not top 3. -
se-alumCall me crazy, but I would take Ryan Kerrigan over just about any of the DE's in the draft. I think he's gonna be an All-Pro type of player.

BR1986FBIn former Browns news, sounds like Shaun Rogers moves fast. He'll be meeting with the Redskins today or tomorrow.
