Cleveland Cavaliers (current) off-season rumors

Man I am glad it's finally hear. I'm tired of hearing all the media talk about it. Just wrote up an article on my blog about it and after doing that, I think we are in for a show the next 4 days. Something we have not seen as sports fans in awhile.

    Bosh w/Rockets = 60 win team.
    Wade, Bosh, 1 more max(didnt specify who),9 min(contract wise) players = 45 win team.

^From Chad Ford's twitter. Ford also said that the Rockets could offer the Raptors Aaron Brooks, Jordan Hill, expiring contracts of Jared Jefferies and David Andersen and/or the Knicks future 1st round pick.

That could be what the Cavs are up against. If the Rockets fulfill that trade, they are loaded up front but their backcourt would stink(unless they get Calderon in the deal, they would have 1 PG-Kyle Lowry).

    Starting five of....1-Lowry/Calderon...2-Martin/Budinger/Taylor...3-Battier/Ariza...4-Bosh/Hayes/Patterson...5-Yao/Scola

That team would not win 60 games. In fact, they may be lucky to get 50-55 wins.. Kevin Martin is a good volume scorer, but he doesn't give you much else. Yao isn't likely to stay healthy.. I mean, I couldn't blame Bosh for going 'home', but that team is no where near a title contender.

Bucher has been in this camp all week. He's also one who has said that Gilbert will let LBJ walk versus a S&T. He co-hosted Mike & Mike yesterday with Eric Kasillius (sp?) and not only said that he THINKS he'll stay but WHY he should stay. Kasillius said LBJ should leave and that he'd "never win a ring in Cleveland."

Not sure how that trade puts Houston over the top at all in the WC which Bosh is looking for.

LAL, OKC, DAL, POR (when healthy) etc will all give that team trouble in the playoffs and a couple of those I'd take over that Houston roster.
  • BR1986FB
It should be interesting what kind of stuff this Russian owner from NJ is going to put in Lebron's ear in a little under 2 hours. Apparently he has some grandiose plan mapped out of how to make LBJ a bigger worldwide icon and a billionaire.

Unless Cleveland trades for Bosh BEFORE Lebron decides to sign...he wont't come back to Cleveland IMO
  • thedynasty1998
Some pretty wild rumors being thrown around since I was on here last night. Shaq for Haywood? Cuban is not that stupid.

That Houston roster would be nice with Yao, Bosh, Battier, Brooks, Scola, Budinger and Ariza. That is possibly the best team in the NBA. People forget how good Yao is, when he's healthy.

Interesting idea for Bosh, and they have some pieces that could be valuable in a S/T.

Much, much better S&T option than Cleveland.

FYI, I still don't get why anyone would think that Cleveland has the best option for a S/T. Why do people think that Varejao and Hickson are that appealing?

Bosh isn't agreeing to a S/T with Cleveland UNLESS LBJ is here first.

Houston possibly the best team in the NBA with that trade?? Thats a joke right? They be pretty good but not close to best.

I thought I heard or read that Lebron would have his mind made up/let his intentions be known by Monday 7/5. They can't sign until Thursday 7/8.

Have you seen some of the contracts Cuban has handed out?

    Dampier- 7 Years-73 Million
    Diop 6 years-32 Million

    Just to name a few

Don't give Cuban any kind of credit when it comes to signing players.

People keep saying Varejao and Hickson are appealing because the Raptors have shown interest in those players in the past.

And really, Rockets best team in the NBA?

To get Bosh they are giving up Brooks, and he might be their best player.

Yao is a good player but he and Bosh wouldn't be a good fit. Both are jump shooters, so who's gonna rebound the ball.

Why not? Boston was the 2nd best team in the NBA this year, and that Houston roster would be more impressive. They would have by far the best front court in the NBA and then have Brooks, Martin and Ariza in the backcourt (depending on how they acquired Bosh). Then you have Battier, Budinger and Scola coming off the bench.

Not to nitpick, but Kevin Martin is one of the most efficent scorers in basketball, not necessarily a volume scorer, but you're right, doesn't provide much outside of scoring.

But I agree with all other points.

Cuban is not dumb enough to bring in Shaq over Haywood. Every one has seen how Shaq has been the last three years.

Bosh averaged 10 rpg last year and Ariza is a good rebounder at that position. I honestly believe if that team was assembled, they are a legitimate threat in the West.
  • Lovejoy1984
    Bosh-Yao-Ariza

Gasol-Bynum-Artest- And Throw in Odom for good measure.

I'd take the Lakers front Court every time.

Outside of Ariza, no one on that team has ever been successful in the playoffs.
  • thedynasty1998
Bynum is the most overrated player in the NBA. I still don't understand why people think he's that good. Yao is so much better, considering both are healthy (big IF). Bosh and Pau are a toss up (I'd personally take Bosh) and Ariza is better than Artest.

    Throw in Scola for Houston

    Season stats:
    Yao - (last year) 20 ppg, 10 rpg, 2 bpg, 55%
    Bosh - 24/11/52%
    Scola - 16/9/51%
    Ariza - 15/6/4 apg/40%

    Bynum - 15/8/57%
    Gasol - 18/11/54%
    Odom - 11/10/46%
    Artest - 11/4/41%

But he signed Erick Dampier to a 72 Million dollar contract, and Desagana Diop to a 32 million dollar deal. So please quit insinuating that Cuban is some sort of Basketball genius, he just throws his money around, and sometimes he gets lucky.

Hell even last year at 38 Shaq put up better numbers than either one of those to.

    Dampier- 6 pts, 7 reb
    Diop- 1 pt, 1 Reb

    Haywood- 9pts, 9 reb
    Shaq- 13 pts, 7 reb.

Unfortunately, what we've seen of Gilbert kinda shows he's the same way but instead of signing stiffs (like Cuban in the Damier/Diop cases) he signs/trades for stars that are way past their prime (Shaq, Ben Wallace, etc)

How many times are you going to bring this up? Let it go

Rockets wouldnt be anywhere close to the best team in the league. Rockets are going to have to give up some talent if they want to bring in Bosh. You cant just add Bosh to that current roster. Battier, Brooks, Scola, Budinger and Ariza.....I'm thinking that at least 2 of these guys would be gone, possibly 3.

They are not getting Bosh without giving up Brooks. If they dont give him up who are they sending to Toronto? Jordan Hill(just drafted Ed Davis, the expiring contract of David Andersen(already have Bargnani), a first rounder and an expring?

I'm not saying Cuban doesn't bring in Shaq, because I think he is the kind of owner that would, however I just don't see them giving up Haywood for him. And I don't know if those stats tell the whole story. Haywood isn't really an offensive threat and doesn't have an offense work through him, unlike Shaq who gets the ball and everyone stands around and let's him work.

Oh I agree. But I'm not the one sitting here pretending Cuban, or Gilbert are too smart to make these deals, when history has shown otherwise.

Haywood is going to walk away. And to get Shaq, unless they use the MLE, they will be doing a Sign and Trade. This would be a you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours deal. Cuban may want O'Neal and Cavs may want Haywood.
