I think that one issue with the two-tiered system is people would continue to claim "discrimination" because he/she wasn't hired for a job due to a hiring of someone who doesn't earn as much -- i.e., a 25 year old (more pay) misses out on a job because a 16 year old (lesser pay) gets it.

Even though, it makes sense to me, I think there'd be all kinds of more problems with it.

As someone who grew up on a farm and knows plenty of farmers, I can confirm that people do get paid under the table.

And certainly not at auctions either.

One of my best memories from summers in college was one of my buddies calling me up and asking if I wanted to make $100 for four hours. We go to a home auction, it probably lasted a bit longer than four hours but all we did was carry stuff out of the house into the lawn. Some heavy stuff, but not too bad. At the end the barker said he wanted to shake my hand and put a c-note there. Good work if you can get it.

Try putting in about 500 square bails a day for only 10 bucks! I guess good old family bonding time sweating your balls off and being covered in hay seed can take the place of cash, though.

Say probably 24-25 years ago! But that pay was better than my first job at the park in the summer making $1.80/hr.....

Yep, out of all the chores and stuff I was expected to do during the summer, that was about the most fun of them. Long day, but fun.

When I bailed hay in the early part of the 2000s, my friends and I were paid $10 an hour. Were we getting scammed? I need to know if I need to send a goon out to his farm to collect any debt. Thanks.

Don't know that I agree with that. But I will say some percentage of what black people attribute to racism is experienced by all people but recognized for what it is - simply rude or bad behavior. I believe there is "far more" racism than white people realize, and "far less" racism than black people perceive.
