What are your unpopular opinions?

  • SportsAndLady
Saw this topic on Mike & Mike thought it was a good one. They said do away with time zones and greeny hates when texts aren't sent with proper punctuation and grammar.

I need to think on this but figured I'd start the thread.

I'm with Greeny on his opinion there. That drives me nuts.

I have a long list of unpopular opinions. I guess one of my most unpopular is that high school athletics need to change and almost become "community club" sports. It's time to really take that out of the taxpayers hands. No need for high school athletics and club athletics to compete -- just combine them. There's already a lot of money wrapped up in club athletics, it makes sense to combine the two and make youth athletics completely self-sufficient.

That's a good one, and required thought (unlike doing away with time zones, that isn't just an unpopular opinion, it is something Kramer from Seinfeld would say).

I don't have many that are unpopular by a huge margin, there are many that are in the minority, but still a sizable minority. In the same line, dealing with sports, I don't think college athletes should be paid anything else but their tuition/living stipends. I don't think they should profit off of their notoriety and I don't think they are slaves. As the Manziel story
gets more attention this appears to be a more unpopular opinion.

I don't get the time zones one. That would be a clusterfuck.

My guess the time zone thing was a joke. You might as well say let's get rid of numbers. An unpopular opinion needs to be backed by a reason behind the opinion, even if by its nature unpopular.

On the sports front: Mine would be that I don't think that HS sports games should be on national television and there isn't a need for teams to fly around the country to play HS games. TECH FRONT: Texting and playing on the phone. Nothing bugs me more than when I see people sitting around ignoring or paying half ass attention to one another. PLay on that damned thing when you are alone or something. SOCIALLY: I thought I was in the majority, and a few yaers ago it was, but marriage should only be between a man, and a woman.

I would consider myself FOR splitting up private and public schools competing against one another. I guess that would be an unpopular opinion of mine.

There is a system for that called Zulu time.

Being a sports fan is OK, but many of the in-depth beliefs of what constitutes a "real" fan are stupid and often hypocritical.

I was surprised by how surprised and revolted Greenberg was by the fact that people pee in the pool. I know that not everyone does it, but more do it than they admit. But I would say 99% of swimmers do it and would tell you the same. Basically the only rule is don't pee while swimming laps and someone is swimming directly behind you as people tend to accidentally drink the water from time to time when swimming laps.

I have the unpopular opinion that a good amount of people who support medical marijuana really don't care about the medical aspect and just want an in to smoking some pot

I haven't seen the data/research on how good of a drug medical marijuana is, what's it good for treating, etc. But the fact that there are doctors out there who would prescribe it and a little anecdotal story like the one trueblue posted yesterday at least shows it should be examined.

But I think marijuana should just flat out be legalized, not just for medicinal purposes.

Heard a stat yesterday, probably skewed, about within a certain radius of the medical marijuana sites that crime has jumped big time....True?

    This is true.

Yeah I was surprised by that and when he went crazy about how Golic mentioned peeing in the shower. The time zones thing wasn't a joke as far as I could tell I didn't really get his reasoning either. I do agree with Greeny about the texting with proper grammar and punctuation.

Looking at a phone is no different than reading a newspaper, book, or a magazine in public.

Texting and Grammar: If it's with a very close friend or my wife, I'll shorten it up. Anyone else, it's proper grammar.

Do you bring a book, newspaper or magazine to the restaurant when you go out to eat? Or to the movies? Or to a ballgame? Or when you are hanging out with friends? Or when you rent a movie to watch?

Beyond a certain age, you should have to pass a driving exam, just like a 16-yr old. And probably every 3-4 years after.

Legalize drugs, prostitution and gambling - I mean, why should I have to be poor to enjoy these things?

Hmm, thought of another one from an entertainment standpoint. That's a tricky subject since there are very subjective topics, but I'm in the super-minority of my generation that never understood the appeal of the show "Friends." I don't hate it, I just don't get it. It isn't funny to me, the characters don't appeal and even for a sit-com it seemed unrealistic. 95% of my college friends would disagree. I feel the same way about the Big Bang Theory. Don't get the humor at all.

Can honestly say I never watched friends, but Big Bang Theory is pretty damned funny.
