What are your unpopular opinions?

You definitely do not smell good after going to Subway.

Oh, and by the way, the $2,000 the NCAA was thinking about instituting has been put on hold for quite a while now. There's been opposition and people want to modify the ruling.

Outside of religion what is the reasoning for your opinion?

One can be tax-exempt status (which I guess is sort of religious). 10 years from now my bet is that churches that refuse to recognize or perform same-sex weddings will no longer be tax-exempt. We've already seen businesses (eHarmony, the flower shop in Washington state?) that had to capitulate to dealing with services they don't wish to perform to continue their business.

That and adoption issues, although I think that is much further down the line.

    What adoption issues?

And are you also against laws that make it so you can't discriminate against people based on race or gender or nationality? If not why are you okay with it for gays?
  • Manhattan Buckeye
As of now there aren't any adoption issues, because you can discriminate. You can't force a woman to give up her child to a couple for any reason, including racial or orientation reasons.

That's why I said it is further down the line.

So your concern isn't to ban gays from adopting but to make it so that if Jane is putting her kid up for adoption she can have a say as to who he/she goes to?

My concern is that religious organizations, even acting in a non-religious way with respect to adoption will be frustrated. We're already seeing how certain laws and regulations are affecting Catholic hospitals (and I'm not Catholic).

As to you question, I have no idea. No part of it made sense.

I was asking if you want it to be illegal for gay people to adopt.

How are they affecting Catholic hospitals? (Genuine question I haven't paid attention).

I'm actually not sure how I feel about that.

    Why should it be illegal?

    They shouldn't be.

    Correct.

I kind of feel that if you can't reproduce the way nature intended (not due to health issues, but man and woman), you shouldn't be able to "cheat" and adopt. I guess that is my unpopular opinion.

    Who is it "cheating"?

I think you're pretty sure how you feel.

Churches are all about the all mighty dollar, trust me they want the money from gay marriages.

Also how do you feel about churches being forced to marry African Americans or other minorities? No difference IMO.

Some do, some don't. And that should be okay.

It's stupid to not do them. But it's okay. I don't need to get married in that sort of church and I don't know why someone would want to get married somewhere that is only doing it because they have to. But whatever. I'm less concerned about churches/religious marriage and more concerned about the legal establishment of marriage.

Same arguement could be made for civil rights. Not sure why "minority" wants to eat at a place that doesn't want them there etc... Slippery slope and further proves what a joke organized religion is. They're supposed to be compassionate, understanding and accepting. Yet continually they're the least in every category.

I don't know of the dynamics of supply and demand, but I DO believe a traditional couple should be given priority over a gay couple. But otherwise I would never deny a child a chance at a good home.

Wasnt aware churches are forced to marry minorities. Being a different race doesnt exclude you from being in any type of religion (to my knowledge).

Why? The overwhelming consensus is that same-sex couples make just as good of parents. Focus should be put on finding good homes for kids regardless of what sex the parents are.

Fair enough. I'm just saying that if I was religious I wouldn't be getting married in a Catholic church because of it.

    1) By "overwhelming consensus" I assume you mean liberals. I'm not sure we have enough history and data to reach that conclusion.

    2) I believe a strong mother and father figure is superior. I believe there's value to growing up in a household with both. That's not saying same-sex couples aren't good enough or that kids can't have good outcomes. If we want to talk about diversity (which we seem to place a lot of value on), the traditional couple is inherently more diverse in many regards. I think it's a more optimal situation, all else equal.
