What are your unpopular opinions?

  • Manhattan Buckeye
Yeah I'd throw Two and Half Men out there as well, but even due to its popularity it seems like most people hate the show.

    Yes

That's a tricky subject since there are very subjective topics, but I'm in the super-minority of my generation that never understood the appeal of the show "Friends." I don't hate it, I just don't get it. It isn't funny to me, the characters don't appeal and even for a sit-com it seemed unrealistic. 95% of my college friends would disagree. I feel the same way about the Big Bang Theory. Don't get the humor at all.

    I love Big Bang Theory.

Which one on the long list ?????

Poor people are poor/entitlement because they want to be poor. You don’t have to be poor in America you make yourself poor.

I see no reason for Time Zones either. I think it would so much easier if everyone was on the same time.

If you are on the west coast, you just start your day at an "earlier time".
  • Manhattan Buckeye
But who is to say which area gets 12:00 noon and 12:00 midnight and everyone else has to adjust?

And it doesn't matter if you travel or contact people in other zones. You still have to understand what 8:00 means in your destination, and what it means in your origination. It actually causes more work. People around the world will still sleep at night. The reason why time zones are around is because we know that at 12:00 midnight means their time which is the end/beginning of the day.

In other words, it might be the dumbest opinion ever made.

So you'd be cool with, say, London time and have it be sunny from 3AM-noon in the winter? You're going to change your habits developed over a lifetime and flip-flop work and sleep?

Pretty much. Humans and many (most?) animals are conditioned to sleep at night and be active during the day. Even if everyone were on the same time, you have the same issues that "life" takes place during different times because that's how the frickin' sun works.

I got to a different timezone, I don't necessarily know what time the sun comes up relative to home, but I know the day "starts" at 8AM.

    No you don't.

But the point isn't about the physical device, but rather when it's appropriate to us them. Would you ever sit at a work meeting and read a magazine during the meeting? Or if you are having a one-on-one conversation, would it be considered rude to pick up a magazine and start reading while the other person is talking?

For some reason, people think it is ok to do this with a phone.

Close. People think a brief interruption isn't rude or is less rude. Checking an email is not really the same as pulling out a paper to read an article. Since cell phones came out, it's long been acceptable in many situations to take a call. Email and texts are just a variation of that.

I get where you're going with this, it's more an issue of degree as opposed to either/or.

http://www.zulutime.net/ Eastern time is 15:29 Zulu/universal coordinated time. The system is already out there.

And business open at 8:00 a.m., lunch is served at noon, dinner is served between 5:00 -10:00 p.m. around the world. You don't have to adjust the numbers, you just have to adjust your clock, which with smart phones you don't have to do anymore. If the time zones were eliminated you would have to memorize what each time means in each area. If it wasn't a joke, it is really, really dumb. There is zero benefit, and more complex calculations involved. I say, good day Mike.

I can't stand that every seat in Ohio Stadium is the exact same price. Let the high roller mofos pay $100 - $150 between the 40s (hell sometimes I'd be glad to be in amongst those mofos and pay the price) but if I'm sitting in 36A for Buffalo the price should be $35 - $40 tops.

Oh and btw...Mumford & Sons is the best band in the world right now.

The system has already and to the point always been there. The reason why no one follows it is because it horribly inefficient.

But with a call, you generally excuse your self from the meeting or conversation, and it's usually urgent enough to warrant interruption. Text and email does not fall into this category. And people do more than check email/text. They are usually on Facebook.

Ehhh, I get that. But text/email often communicates much the same that an urgent call does, and it can be much quicker not requiring you to excuse yourself. It's definitely acceptable in some situations to varying degrees.

Plus, a large part of why people excused themselves is for THEIR privacy, which text/email is already private.

I agree completely. I prefer watching from home because of this very reason.

Most emails/text, heck even phone calls, don't warrant any interruption. But our society has become an instant gratification society, so we can't help ourselves.

Again, that's why I said it depends on the situation and the degree. Especially with business today with so many people working remotely it's almost impossible to know if something is urgent/relevant without checking. 40 years ago everyone with relevant information and opinions is probably in that meeting, but today that simply isn't true.

I still think it is rude to look at your phone when having a conversation with someone. Maybe not as much in meetings. Like I said, it's usually Facebook or something, not always email/text.
