salto;1605839 wrote:BR I have a question. Have you ever monitored your resting heart rate as part of your training program?
No and I really have no interest in doing so. I have different fitness goals than a distance runner.

Yes, those who run for hours on end might have a very nice resting heart rate but they are also most likely skinny fat and not in very good aesthetic "shape." Pounding your body on the pavement for long periods of time is going to raise that cortisol though the roof. Add to that the fact that distance runners feel that need to "carb up" and you have the perfect recipe for that desirable skinny fat physique.

Since you haven't been around for awhile...
Salto=said. Said just uses his brothers account because he was permabanned.

Anyway sprinting would also bring down your resting heart rate anyway.

Too much work. Even when I was gone I had no desire, or energy, to create a ghost account. Said posts over on Yappi and actually isn't as douchey over there.

Very true. OC is full of douches and peoples alter egos.

No matter what sort of workouts are being done, tracking ones RHR is a way to monitor overall fitness and if improvements.

Also tracking RHR can be a notifier if becoming sick.

Has anyone ever used an altitude mask? What did you think?

No need for dlazz to respond.

I've seen them a few times at my old gym. A few of the MMA guys used them when training or occasionally someone will have one on doing cardio.

I get the point, but...fuck that.

Yeah I remember watching Wanderlei Silva on a training special create his own mask. He taped a boxing helmet to his head, taped his nostrils and breathed thru a snorkel lol.

I guess it builds up lactic acid (to help improve recovery) and improves breathing. I was wondering if anyone else gave it a try.

    Yes. It made breathing harder.

No evidence they actually benefit lung capacity or ones ability to use oxygen more efficiently.

Simple fact if you're at sea level, breathing sea level air (20.9% oxygen) through a restrictive device, the air coming through it and available to you is still going to be of 20.9% oxygen content.

*Claims by one mask manufacturer :
The mask creates pulmonary resistance. It is supposed to strengthen the diaphragm, increase the surface area and elasticity of the lung's alveoli and increase lung stamina.

    Bumping this.

I wouldn't be a fan of the altitude mask. CPAP mask I have to use is bad enough.

Just finished leg day. Me and my lifting partner did 150lb squats with a deck of cards. joker is 20 reps, ace is 15, face cards 10 and on down the line. My legs are fucking jello right now and I want to CRY!

    Indeed.

Does this make his cover up a bigger fail than SQ's now? He is making a good case for himself.

I might go jogging this afternoon. Hope it does not reduce the effects of my chest and back routine yesterday...
