MFP is a very solid tool for tracking your calories, ratios, etc. I've used it with great success in the past.Pick6;1612608 wrote:anybody use MyFitnessPal? I've used it periodically in the past, but think I've decided to work on my diet and am planning to use it regularly. Since I get off of work in 8 hour usually now and have time to work out, I figure I might as well attempt to maximize results and actually pay attention to my diet for once.
I let the app calculate my daily calorie intake based on the info entered, but am not sure what to set carbs and fat at. I've read in the past that hitting grams in protein equal to your body weight is a pretty good benchmark. I went today and picked up a ton a protein packed foods (scallops, turkey, fish, chicken, double protein bread, yogurt, etc), tried to avoid all sugary foods, chose lower sodium alternatives, and got some low-calorie foods such as celery.
I'm sort of picky, but would like some more suggestions related to a diet. Right now my current goal is to make the change for 1 month and hope that it turns into a habit to eat healthier.
Also, if anyone uses MyFitness, my name is luke2209 -
AutomatikYes, great app. I too have only used it to track macros.
I may get back on it.
Not 100% sure, but I was going for 1500-1700 cals. Aiming for bodyweight in protein (180ish grams/day. Fat and carbs, slips my mind..no clue.
My favorite parts are the nutritional info bank and the ability to save meals. -

I'm probably going to also. I had a two year run where I logged on every day. Helps keep you disciplined.Automatik;1612740 wrote: I may get back on it. -
AutomatikI just fell off because after using it for a few months I just got into a groove and didn't need to track anymore. Everything was in my head.
Now I'm trying to change up the diet and like you said....get a bit more disciplined. -
BR1986FBI was the same way. Got into a grrove but I still logged in just to see where the calories were at, etc.

Holy shit. 1500 calories a day? What're your goals and body weight? I eat that amount in a sitting sometimes.Automatik;1612740 wrote:Yes, great app. I too have only used it to track macros.

the calorie goal seems like a pretty crazy deficit. I figured out the minimum calorie intake so that I wouldn't lose muscle a while back while i was cutting and I think mine was 2200ish.Automatik;1612740 wrote:Yes, great app. I too have only used it to track macros.

Yeah, if you are doing any type of at least somewhat moderate exercise 3-4x per week you'll need at least 2200ish to just maintain. Likely more. Obviously depends on existing body weight and some other factors.Pick6;1612844 wrote:the calorie goal seems like a pretty crazy deficit. I started at round 190 and was 176 at my lowest. That was just a range that I was going for. I'd deviate often if I felt like it or not. Muscle loss wasn't really a cause for concern.birddog23;1612824 wrote:Holy shit. 1500 calories a day? What're your goals and body weight? I eat that amount in a sitting sometimes. -

Is this still a thing? Honest question, I thought it had been dispelled some time agoAutomatik;1612740 wrote:Aiming for bodyweight in protein
Back when I used to eat a shit ton of protein (about 120 grams a day) I would have the worst protein farts. So I cut back and didn't really notice any change outside of not having to leave a room to go fart every 15 minutes -
birddog23I've seen and read that much isn't necessary. I weight 175lbs and usually intake anywhere between 120-175g of protein a day. It varies but I don't see differences between high protein and lower protein days.
-
AutomatikAgain, just a general target. I would have highs and lows.

AutomatikI weighed in at 183 last night. Surprisingly low. I'd say I'll be content cutting to mid 170s.
I also leg pressed......much less than 1000 lbs. :/ -
birddog23Running low on my supplements. Where do you guys buy your stuff at?
Also, BCAA's. I've tried Controlled Labs Purple Wraath and SciVation Xtend. Both I like. Any others you guys recommend? -

You have the right BCAA's. Can't go wrong with either although I prefer SciVation's watermelon flavor. You could make popsicles out of that shit.birddog23;1616787 wrote:Running low on my supplements. Where do you guys buy your stuff at?

I used to buy my stuff online at DPS Nutrition. For awhile there it was the cheapest and you could get the Xtend in the old formula which was a helluva lot cheaper. -
Pick6Thoughts on saunas? I have one at my gym and have done some reading up on the benefits today. Thinking about adding a sauna day once per week.

Pick6Did my first HIIT workout today. Went a mile and a half..Rotated 1 tenth all out and 1 tenth mid/low until I got to 1.5. Thoughts on the distance/intervals?

I don't see how a sauna can burn calories. -

[h=3]Weight Loss[/h] Sauna therapy is also used as a weight loss aid; although your body might feel relaxed, your heart rate is actually increasing due to the dry heat. A 20-minute session at approximately 165 to 175 degrees F) will burn over 500 calories. In fact, the body's metabolism speeds up similarly to the way it would from physical exercise. -

lol from saunabenefits.com.
Burning calories is about how much heat your body PRODUCES, not how hot you can get it. Your body burns more calories when you work out in the cold, because it is working harder to produce heat.
I could match you link for link, but hopefully you actually aren't going in a sauna for calorie burning lol The other shit makes sense though. -

jesus H. I'm not claiming to be some expert (hence the reason I posed the initial question), just posting what I read. Calm down.
