Notre Dame Football 2010.......The Brian Kelly Era Begins
-
rock_knutneAgain, I'm not in panic mode with Kelly, it would be foolish to think that way. The guy has a winning pedigree and sooner or later it will show through. I had some idiotic responses when I posted on the game thread that ND still has four very winnable games remaining but regardless of the idiotic replies, it's true. This season can still be a success with a strong finish and BK knows that would propel the Irish to better things next year, especially with IMO, the last mediocre schedule in 2011 that ND will see for years.
Take care of business this Saturday and they have a chance for a signature win on Novemeber 13th when Utah comes to town. -

Pretty sad that 6-6 would be considered a successful season.
Only in South Bend... -

There's a reason CC teaches gym and not English. We all know this already... -

"Successful" doesn't equal "acceptable;" the only think successful this season has been grasping new styles of play, but even that gets an incomplete. "Only in a year in which you switch coaching staffs or a major rebuilding year..." is a better way to put it. Weis' 2009 was inexcusable, so they canned him. Let's show these stats again and see if you can comprehend:
First Years as Head Coach:
Jim Tressel
Youngstown State: 2-9
Ohio State: 7-5
Mack Brown
Appalachian State: 6-5
Tulane: 1-10
North Carolina: 1-10
Texas: 9-3
Bob Stoops:
Oklahoma: 7-5
Nick Saban
Toledo: 9-2
Michigan State: 6-5
LSU: 8-4
Alabama: 7-5
Gary Pinkel
Toledo: 5-5-1
Missouri: 4-7
Jim Harbaugh
San Diego: 7-4
Stanford: 4-8
Those, with Urban Meyer, Bo Pelini, and several I missed, are the top coaches in the country. They had to build programs. Tressel has to right Cooper's wrongs, Kelly must correct Weis'. Obviously, Cooper was a far better coach than Weis, so there is more to correct. Is 6-6 successful? Hardly. But is it acceptable. Mind you, if Notre Dame goes 6-6 in 2011 and Crist didn't blow out his ACL or something, I'll be seriously worried. He there is simply nothing that would insinuate that outcome. He's a winner, he's won literally everywhere he's coached. It's why I told fans to calm down; Notre Dame looked absolutely terrible on Saturday, but it doesn't mean that won't be successful.
The flaw in your thinking is that you think because they play at Notre Dame they will be perpetually awful, like it's some sort of Notre Dame curse. "Ohio State = good, Notre Dame = bad. That is how the world works." You've probably thought that a number of times, and it is true but it doesn't mean it always will be. Each team is just a group of players and coaches, and the failures of previous coaches in the program has NO EFFECT on their ability to win games in the future other than correcting mistakes. I would trust Brian Kelly or Jim Tressel to form a winning program if they starting coaching at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. Good coaches win everywhere, and it's not like Notre Dame doesn't have the wherewithal to afford anything and everything Kelly needs to win. -

Fixed. Please don't compare BK to any of these guys.sjmvsfscs08;534413 wrote:

karen lotzawwww why did you change that post sleeper? Did you do a quick google search to find that Tressel didn't win a national championship his first year?

Why? Because he hasn't won championships? He has. There were plenty of Michigan fans in 2001 saying "Tressel has won at Youngstown in some inferior D-1AA level! He can't coach with the big boys." They were obviously as ignorant as you are.
A simply question to you:
What has Brian Kelly done to show he cannot win at Notre Dame? Citing Notre Dame's mediocrity would be a bad move here, I've already said why. -
sleeperUmm, what has he done? He's not won at ND.
Simple question:
What has BK done to show he can win at ND? Nothing. He's beaten the cupcakes and lost to everyone worth a damn, same as its been at ND for the past 20 years. -
dat dudeHas BK addressed Kerry Neal's cheap shot?

karen lotzCheap shot? He did address the play and said that nothing needed to be done about it.
-
dat dudeYou don't think stomping on one's abdomen is a cheap shot?
Btw, looks like the stomp was subsequent to a punch as well. -
karen lotzNo more than I think its a cheap shot when someone is diving at your knee.

That's what I figured... smhsleeper;534428 wrote:I'm not going to answer your question, I choose instead to ignore his previous national championships, conference championships, BCS berths, and how he's won ~80% of his games. I will just say he's had a season comparable to other coaches in their first season, and insinuate that because he's at Notre Dame he simply cannot win...because it's Notre Dame. They will always be bad. Always. Go Bucks. Enjoy you bowl loss.

I saw that the other day, I'm fairly certain Kelly has noticed it. I can't say what the repercussions will be, we may never know. -

He was asked about it today in his press conference. He said he and the coaches were aware of it and saw it and said nothing else needed to be said about it. Navy's coach also said it was a non issue. -
dat dudeSo Neal's actions were justified because the Navy back tried to block him by "diving at his legs?" Is that an illegal block?
I'm just trying to follow the logic. -
karen lotzNeal was trying to get to the ball carrier, he needed to put his foot down somewhere in order to do so, it just so happened the Navy player was laying underneath him because he had just finished diving at Neal's knees. There isn't any other logic.
-
dat dudeLOL
-
karen lotzFor the record, I don't think it was a cheap shot but I also think he shouldn't have done it. If coaches from both teams say its a non issue, that's good enough for me. I'd assume Neal did some extra running yesterday and Kelly did talk to him about it and that's the end of it.

Who said it was justified? I don't think it was per se. He was used the opportunity while getting into the pile, easy stomping for him. But I think both coaches know a bunch of shit goes on that the cameras don't pick up and this isn't all that bad. I would bet the farm Kelly, with RKG ("Right Kinda Guy") being at the forefront of his coaching, didn't let this go freely.
Some worse moments:

or maybe we should ask Jim Sorgi about his neck after Ohio State's Robert Reynolds choked him in a pile?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reynolds-Sorgi_incident
This isn't that big of a deal. -
dat dudeAnd Robert Reynolds and Marcus Vick are both POS for taking a cheap shot. I'd admit it, no matter which team I cheer for. Same goes for Neal here, who obviously was frustrated by the whipping his team was taking and punched and stomped on an opposing player.
-
karen lotzLike I said, both Kelly and Niumatalolo (yes I googled it) have said its a non issue.
-
karen lotzFreshman Kona Schwenke will have to burn his red shirt after the Ian Williams injury. He is listed on the 2 deep at defensive end and Kelly said he will have to play this weekend and until Williams can come back.
