Notre Dame Football 2010.......The Brian Kelly Era Begins

You're not posting any facts. First off, ND's winning percentage is way above .500 in the last 15 years. Second, no one is saying ND had great players from the time Holtz left and until Weis' second recruing class. You have a knack for making stuff up.

Completely agree. Rock, do you really think giving facts and getting worked up to runner is going to make him see the light? There are only two things that will make him stop; Notre Dame being good (it's a long offseason), or people not getting worked up over him.

Little Danny wrote: Sigh... too bad we can never have a ND football discussion on this board without people coming in and ruining it by saying "You Suck" or whatever and then people responding in kind.

(this coming from someone who is not a ND fan).

I don't see how that ruins discussion. It's not like ND has been winning bowl games(or anything really) over the course of my entire lifetime, so they are pretty bad. Coming in here, and saying "you suck" is more factual than anything the delusional ND nuthuggers are posting.

I think 5-7 is a pretty accurate prediction, although I believe they steal at least one of the games from the Big 10, so I went with 6-6(well 6-7 with a bowl loss). But oh noes! That's trolling because it doesn't claim that ND is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Please, you can't have a discussion if everyone is drinking the same kool-aid, especially when the other side is presenting valid points/arguments.

And Rock, the recruits aren't overhyped when they are being recruited, its AFTER they have signed with ND. Then they become the next GOAT LB, QB, RB, WR, or w/e. The truth is on the field, one bowl win in 20 years(against a depleted hapless 6-6 WAC team in the prestigious Sheraton Hawaii Bowl), haven't beat a top 10 team in 15 years, etc.. Hell, beating a ranked team is pretty far fetched, much less the perennial cupcakes they play year in/year out.

OK, as of right now, both sleeper and ccrunner are on my ignore list.
  • The Equalizer
They've been on mine for as long as I've been on here lol.

Eh, they don't bother me, they're just children running around yelling, "Look at me!" Getting into pissing matches with people who just want to make you mad is silly. I wonder if in the future I'm going to be the only Notre Dame fan they can talk to...
  • killer_ewok
Yeah, when I notice a discussion worth having is taking place on one of these threads.....I'll join in.

I fail to see how posting the FACTS about ND is getting into a pissing match, but I guarantee if I was on here posting delusional nut hugging crap about ND, I'd be lying.

Get over yourselves, ND is terrible, no one gives a damn about Brian Kelly or all their overhyped recruits. They will bust, they will lose 6 games and attend a mediocre bowl game(if they chose to accept it) in which they will lose. This shouldn't be news to anyone, they've been doing the same thing for 20 years.

The reason Rock continues to argue with them is because he is one of the most argumentative people on this site. Whether it be ND, Steelers, Penguins, he'll find a way to argue about it.

He states that he has those 2 on the ignore list, we'll see how long he can ignore them.

LOL, OK what ever you say! Yeah I like to argue when it comes to my teams, especially when 80% time people post things that aren't true or just make them up, wouldn't you have a problem with that? I held many argutive session with you but no one got hurt.

BTW, I see both of those dolts posted something and I have no idea what they said, I really do have them on my ignore list.

S&L, as far as commenting he did it against weak BE teams, keep in mind that ND is 0-3 against the BE the past two seasons. In addition, UC beat the snot out of Oregon State twice, some very good WVU teams and Pitt Squads. Also, UC managed to put up more points against a B10 team (Illinois) than they have allowed all season (49). Looking at their schedule, I expect ND to win 7-8 games next year (and I am not a ND fan).
Obviously you didn't actually read my post.

I think that is what he's +1ing you for, because no one could decipher that jargon.

It's posting the same facts in every Notre Dame thread to bait someone into flying off the handle. As for not posting pro ND stuff, umm good for you!

Get over myself? If you can politely point to anywhere I said Notre Dame was good I will concede. I have said many times Notre Dame is bad, nice try though. With time you might be able to get there! I'm rooting for you.

I was mostly making a point about starting pissin matches, which is essentially what people get into when you post something that doesn't praise ND's mediocrity.
  • sjmvsfscs08
Well you just turned +1 into a verb, and that is impressive.

    Also, Notre Dame sucks.
  • sjmvsfscs08
hahaha sleep where has anyone praised Notre Dame's mediocrity?
  • Mr Pat
We hate Notre Dame's mediocrity, Sleeper. Being cautiously optimistic isn't praising mediocrity. As for me, I'm hoping like hell Kelly can turn things around. I am not so dense that I can say for sure if he will succeed or he will fail, but I will still be here to read your facts.
  • athlete37
Pretty sure if we thought we were good enough we wouldn't have had six coaches in the past fifteen years
  • sjmvsfscs08
I can't speak for everyone, but I'm fairly certain most Notre Dame fans recognize that this is the worst stretch of football in Irish history. Everyone agrees they haven't done much in the last twenty years; 1993 and 2005 were memorable, but that is about it.

As far as recruits, don't judge a player by what ESPN, Scout, and Rivals say. Judge a player by whom he is offered by. If Notre Dame gets a player that is recruited by Ohio State, that obviously means Jim Tressel thinks he's good enough to play there. In my opinion, recruiting ability is the second-to-last worry I have for Notre Dame as a fan, right behind having the wherewithal to have a football program. Kids still want to play for the Irish, Notre Dame still has a massive fan base, and South Bend is still relevant in the football world. Every program has a down stretch, Notre Dame is no exception. Things have been rough for about fifteen years, but it's only a matter of time before they're back to being a legitimate contender. Call me biased, but to say anyone of us has a fucking clue as to what the future will bring would be beyond arrogant.

    ^^^^^Good post!
  • Swamp Fox
I really don't think it's coaching. Times have changed. Knute Rockne is no longer in South Bend. George Gipp hasn't been there for a long time either. Notre Dame's tradition is long and storied. great players, legendary coaches, the Golden Dome, Touchdown Jesus, but the problem is that none of that means much to today's athletes. Looking at the Irish over the last couple of decades, the picture isn't particularly pretty. They are no longer a feared opponent. Their entrance requirements remain constant. Notre Dame is a very academically oriented school. There's nothing wrong with that but many of the top recruits out there today don't measure up. Also, the Irish play in a storied venue but in November and December it is a very cold venue and there are many warmer locations that these players can go. If a number one or two recruit wants a chance to play for a National Championship, where does Notre Dame rank in the list of most probable schools? Coach Kelly will do alright. They will win more than they lose and as another freehuddler has suggested, will play in a bowl game, but I think that will be about it. I may be totally wrong about this and I wish Coach Kelly no ill will. He did a terrific job at Cincinnati and he is obviously a good coach, but Notre Dame needs a major overhaul and I'm not sure they can ever get back to where they once were during the glory years.
  • rock_knutne
^^^^^Only time will tell, but I can guarantee you this, Coach Kelly will be able to recruit much better players at ND than he did at UC. Frankly, I'm hoping that's what puts him over the top but I still proceed with caution.
