Notre Dame Football 2010.......The Brian Kelly Era Begins
-
karen lotzSo far Cierre Wood has done a good job running the football, breaking off about a 35 yard run on a counter play. Rudolph has been the main target in the passing game and Te'o has been all over the field defensively.
-
Hamp89Yeah Cierre Wood looks real good. He has that break away speed that ND rb's have been lacking for a long time.
-
SQ_CraziesCrist is going to break little Irish hearts the same way Quinn and Clausen did. Less than impressive in the spring game, especially compared to Montana. Not that the spring game is a great barometer but he doesn't look overly impressive to me.
-
karen lotzSQ, did you watch the game at all or are you just basing that off of the numbers of Crist and Montana? Just curious.
-
SQ_CraziesBoth. Didn't watch the entire game but some of it, Crist didn't look that impressive to me. Definitely not as good as some of my ND fan friends told me he's going to be--and it's bad if you don't look that good in your spring game.
-
goosebumpsI'd imagine that Crist would be taking it easy. I don't follow ND all that closely, but is his knee 100% right now?

First, I don't know what game you watched but he performed OK, made some mistakes but made some big plays too. Second, he's learning an entirely new offensive system, you have to cut him some slack for that. Last, he coming bak from a torn ACL and it's going to take time for him to gain confidence in that knee, especially in a Spring game where the QB is off limits.SQ_Crazies wrote: Both. SQ_CraziesI'm not cutting him any slack, Montana played much better.

You do know that both teams were divided up equally so the game would be competitive.SQ_Crazies wrote: I'm not cutting him any slack, Montana played much better. -
SQ_CraziesWhich would make my argument stronger?
-
rock_knutne^^^^How? Montana didn't have Te'o, Williams and Lewis-Moore breathing down his neck all day. Yeah the teams were divided up equally, some areas better than others on each side.
-
Hamp89
Um, yeah. Splitting up a defense that is already horrible wasn't doing them much justice, especially with those guys (T'eo, Williams, etc.) on the same unit.rock_knutne wrote: ^^^^How? Crist looked about as good as I thought he would. He has a long way to go to be ready to start the season, but I'll admit I was pleasantly surprised with some of the throws Montana was making.
I have a bad feeling that we won't see a lot of change in Notre Dame football in 2010. The Irish will put up a ton of points and yardage as usual, but won't be able to stop anyone. I see a lot of high scoring shoot-out type games next year again unfortunately. Irish fans, get your hearts prepared for the stress once again.. -
Hamp89On a side note, Tai-ler Jones looks like he's going to be a player. You gotta love seeing the frosh making big plays like that.
-
newarkcatholicfanSame story different year.

rock_knutne
That pretty much sums up your message board career.newarkcatholicfan wrote: Same story different year. -

I'm not knocking Montana, he looked good, all I'm saying is Crist is coming off an injury and learning an entirely new playbook........rome wasn't built in a day, lol. Crist is going to start, I can't fathom anyone else taking the job from him.Hamp89 wrote: Um, yeah. As for the defense, I'm not passing judgement just yet. Kelly did say he likes a lot of wht he saw out of them and they two are reverting back to the 3-4. We may see shoot out games again this year but I'm willing to bet they will make a stop when they need to. -
Hamp89Oh yeah, I know Crist is the starter - no question about it. The defense is hard not to pass judgement on, as it has been crap for how many years in a row? Either our rb's are all great, or the defense is going to be the downfall of this team again. I know you can't take much of anything from the spring game, but seeing Wood, Hughes, Gray, and some no-namers running wild brought back some ugly recent memories. I'm hoping for the best as always, but it's going to take some time to get some confidence back for me on that side of the ball.
-
rock_knutneHamp, remember, the probable starting unit come this fall was not playing together in the spring game.
-
karen lotzND picks up another verbal. 6'5" 228 lb TE Ben Koyack out of PA. Koyack had a pretty impressive offer list including Penn State, Oklahoma, USC, and OSU. Good to see that Kelly is having success in recruiting against the big boys.
-
vball10set^^^nice pick up for the Irish..btw, I just got done reading a good article about the Hanratty kid from Connecticut--sounds like a great kid (and he obviously comes from good stock)--how many times do you see a QB's son recruited as an OT? 6'4 295--that's how!!!
-
karen lotzdo you have a link to the Hanratty story?
-
Goldenboy26I went to the Spring game, i was surprised to see how much, and how well we ran the ball. I hope Kelly does a good job of coaching up the defense
-
vball10sethey Irish fans--looks like you got another good lineman:
