Notre Dame Football 2010.......The Brian Kelly Era Begins

killer_ewokWith all due respect, I don't think vball's posts were what fucked the thread. That "honor" goes to sleeper.
Cleveland buck-I have no issue with you but you gotta know that if someone is gonna get on here and run their mouth and pat themself on the back for posting "a link to back their shit up" and that link turns out to be less than 100% accurate...they're gonna get called on it.
Sure, people make mistakes. But if you're gonna be obnoxious about things....expect some backlash. Sleeper deserves every bit of this backlash.
Sometimes I'll take the high road and just ignore his posts. And other times I'll tapdance on that filthy little troll like Gregory fuckin' Hines with hobnail boots on. -
TiernanOnly an ND poster could make a Gregory Hines reference sound tough.
-
The Equalizer
I'd pay to see that.
Anyways, any new snipits from spring days? -

That "less than 100% accurate" link has been used NUMEROUS times on this forum, its not some random ass fan site, its a site dedicated to keeping record of various football stats, and god forbid they don't count games that were played before teams even had teams.
But its cool, my team is going to compete for a Big Ten championship and contend for a National Title, have fun being 6-6 and going to the Outback Sheraton Hawaii bowl if you choose to accept it. -
The EqualizerTranslation: I was wrong, but instead of taking some ribbing like a man I'm gonna throw out the same old tired shit and gloss over the fact I just had my "shit backed up" into a corner.
-
sjmvsfscs08hahaha Only sleeper would post incorrect information and then turn around and say "who gives a shit?" Own up you bitch.
Ohio State hasn't only lost to Cincinnati twice, they've lost ten times to Case and once to Denision (both schools sleeper says you go to if you want to work in fast food the rest of your life). They've even struggled with Kenyon, losing six times, and Oberlin, losing ten times. They've even lost to Wooster, Wittenburg, Western Reserve and Antioch. Ouch. -
The Equalizernow now, remember, nothing before (insert date when my team was good) matters dagnabit!

CinciX12Who. The. Fuck. Cares. About. UC. Football.?
Respectively, of course. Can the ND thread be about ND please? -
sleeperhttp://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/opp-opp.pl?start=1869&end=2009&team1=Ohio+State&team2=Notre+Dame
Check the math on this one.
I may be reading this wrong but does it say ND is 2-3 against Ohio State? Oh, but you won in 1935 and 1936 LOL -
Pick6Interesting....When some Notre Dame fans, who are also Steelers fans, talk about stuff from 70+ years ago, it matters. However, anything pre-super bowl era in the NFL aint shit. Double standards? I think so.
-
Rebel_ I.N.S.I love the ongoing saga between the Buckeye & Irish fans. The shit is better than Star Wars LOL.

LMAO......are you serious? A taste of your own medicine sucks doesn't it? I always here how a win is a win on here but contrary to what some believe, an NFL Championship isn't the equivalent of Super Bowl, not even close!Pick6 wrote: Interesting....When some Notre Dame fans, who are also Steelers fans, talk about stuff from 70+ years ago, it matters. Great point. How about you start a topic about it in the Pro Sports forum so we can attempt to get this thread back on track.rock_knutne wrote:

I haven't seen a great deal of stuff discussing actual spring practice since the first day, but did see that Wisconsin and ND are in talks about a home and home series. I think it would be an interesting couple of games with two very differing styles of play going at each other. I'd also rather see ND playing a team of Wisky's caliber rather than games with Western Michigan -
vball10setthanks,hamp--I love you too

I would love to see ND schedule Wisky, that would be a hell of a series. As for WM, I don't think ND had much of a choice, they needed to fill that date and preferably with a home game but I do agree, I don't want to see ND playing the likes of WM any more.karen lotz wrote: I haven't seen a great deal of stuff discussing actual spring practice since the first day, but did see that Wisconsin and ND are in talks about a home and home series. karen lotzLooking at 2012 in Madison with the return game coming in 2015. Apparently Wisconsin is also negotiating with Nebraska about the same dates as Alvarez played for the Cornhuskers. If the series with the Badgers does happen, 2012 is shaping up to be pretty brutal. At Oklahoma, at Michigan State, at SC and at Nebraska along with the Navy game in Dublin. Hopefully Kelly has made a lot of improvements in the program by then, which I think he will.
edit: Also throw in Wake Forest in 2012, not a powerhouse at all but have been better recently and still from a BCS conference. -
The EqualizerI don't mind playing a WM or 2 because we need extra wins, it'd give us a few offensive showoff games to help some of our kids pad stats, or bench guys getting into the game, and having a breather now and then doesn't hurt. I don't want to see 5 of them a year but sandwiching them around USC wouldn't hurt.

CinciX12
I'd rather we play a good team the week before USC. We can drive down the street and play Holy Cross the week after for all I care. The Equalizer wrote: I don't mind playing a WM or 2 because we need extra wins, it'd give us a few offensive showoff games to help some of our kids pad stats, or bench guys getting into the game, and having a breather now and then doesn't hurt. Well, it's not getting any more accurate with each additional citation. So no matter how much syrup you pour on it.....it's still shit, not pancakes.sleeper wrote:

Yeah, I know. OSU is currently a great program and ND is currently a mediocre program. I don't deny that. What else ya' got?
Oh, don't worry.....us ND/Steeler fans get hit with double standards too. You know, when some Cleveland/OSU fans like to bring up that the Steelers stunk for the better part of their first 40 years of existence but when we're over on the college football forum...ND's great success from roughly that same time period is deemed "irrelevant" because that was so long ago and they're told that they are "living in the past." You mean like those double standards? Yep, we know.Pick6 wrote: Interesting....When some Notre Dame fans, who are also Steelers fans, talk about stuff from 70+ years ago, it matters. *FWIW, I think the Browns' NFL Championships "count," but I'm not going to sit here and say that I consider their 4 AAFC titles the same as NFL Championships. They're not. -

Not a bad read about Kelly changing attitudes and getting them to buy into his way of doing things. -

fair enough. I guarantee if the steelers would have won 5 nfl championships some of the fans like rock and al would be pounding their chest and say that it mattered. Also note that when the browns won the aafc championships, nobody in the nfl would play them.killer_ewok wrote:

Maybe so on your first point. I can't say that I disagree with that.Pick6 wrote:

Also, I understand that nobody in the NFL would play the Browns then. My personal opinion on that is that it's still not an NFL Championship nor is it the equivalent of one. It was an 8-team league. The NFL does not recognize those championships as the NFL existed at that time and was an entirely separate league. We can agree to disagree on that one. -

A great read. I love what I'm hearing about Kelly thus far. But, I also loved a lot of things that Weis said early on. However, it seems as though Kelly is doing more than just talking about changing the culture, or as he put it....."daily habits." He is actually taking steps to do that. Weis talked a lot about making ND a "mean and nasty defense" but what did he actually do to instill that attitude and accomplish that? It seems like more than lip service with Kelly but I've still got to wait and see. We ND fans can only hope this translates into success on the field for Kelly and the Irish. Weis said things that sounded great too and we saw how that turned out. Brian Kelly doesn't have the Super Bowl rings, etc. but he does have something very important that Weis never had.......he's an established and successful head coach at the college level. That has to count for something. At least I sure as hell hope so.karen lotz wrote: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=schlabach_mark&id=5062143

karen lotzI agree with what you say about Weis saying all the same things at first too. It just seems that Kelly is taking more action to make sure what he says comes to fruition. With players saying things l like practice is overwhelming and different and extremely fast paced, I think Kelly is doing more than just talking. He also said before that attention to detail was not close to what he expects. It may seem like a little thing, but him having the players all set up their locker the same way and having a poster of what he wants could have a big impact on getting everyone on the same page as Kelly and the coaching staff. Hopefully its more than just lip service, and Kelly comes across as the type of guy you don't want to disappoint.

killer_ewok^^^Totally agree. We're saying the same thing.
