Ohio State at WVU - 1/23

  • wkfan
Last year WVU took Ohio State to the woodshed....

What are peoples opinions about how the game will play out in Morgantown on Saturday??
  • just_a_swimmer
It's going to be close but I like our chances now that Turner is back. A win would be nice.

I have to agree. I think OSU has the edge the way they have been playing. WVU is a very favorable match-up for the Buckeyes.

Close win for the Buckeyes, should be a great game!

    Who to dislike more..

    Huggins or Matta?

I dislike both equally. Hope the scoreboard falls and hits them both. Not the teams, wouldn't wish anything bad on them, just those 2 individuals.

I really hope OSU can pull a win out here. It would help their RPI a lot. I haven't seen to much of WVU this year so far but, from what I have seen they have looked good but, not great and should be a tough but winable matchup. I think this game could go either way depending on which teams and players decide to step up.

A win here could go a LONG way towards getting a higher seed come tourny time considering the way the Big 10 is beating up on one another

Depends on which WV team shows up. It really could go either way.

Talk about another huge game. This game would most likely propel Ohio State into the top 15 with a win and would really get people looking at the Buckeyes as a possible contender for the Big 10 title but MSU has to falter first and they really are just holding steady

Bucks need a win here, if for nothing else but to get their manhood back after getting curbstomped in VCA last year... I went to that game... OUCH

They don't NEED a win. But for NCAA tourny, this game would be a HUGE resumue' builder.
That being said, I am not optimistic OSU can go into WVU and win. I think it will be a great game though. And with Turner nearing 100%, OSU certainly has a chance.
The start of the game is big. OSU can't come out and dig a big hole as they did vs UNC. They need to stay in the game early, need rebound well, and limit turnovers to have a chance at end. They also need to be able to handle WVU pressure. I am sure Huggins will try and take Turner out of game by doubling him early, making him give up the ball.
Like to OSU play well in this one vs a high quality team.
Stll think OSU loses this one. Under a 10pt game though.

The keys to this game will be Jon Deibler and William Buford. If these two can make big plays and hit some big shots off of Turner's dribble-penetration, the Buckeyes should be in a nice situation to win this game. If the Bucks have a similar first half like they did against UNC, they will be in big trouble. I think having Turner near 100% will help tremendously, but his supporting cast will be more important. WVU is very athletic and will double Turner at times to keep him limited, but when he kicks it out to others, they need to capitalize. Oh, and how could I forget - Mark Titus could potentially be a game changer in this one. Although the Villian nearing 100% is on everyone's mind, having Titus could prove to be the difference maker.

Ahhhh, whats wrong little man...still hurt because Matta chose bigger, better and better pay school over X? ;) Shame on him for looking out for himself and his family!

Huggins I'm sure watched the Minny game tape, even with Turner I expect to see a lot of pressure.

The good WVU team has only showed up once this season.

I'll say WVU wins simply because they are at home, but I wouldn't be shocked to see OSU pull this one out.

Right now WVU can't score, shoot, pass, play defense, or anything else that the game of basketball requires.

Should be a good game. OSU has looked impressive since Turner's return. I'll be pulling for the Big East team but looking forward to a good game and I'll check in on this one as I'm watching the Syracuse-Marquette game.

#25 Ohio Sate @ #15 West Virginia WVU Coliseum (sell out)

*OSU leads all time series 9-6

*WVU has won 6 of last 7 meetings

    *Last meeting 12/27/2008 WVU 76 OSU 48

*Key point total (70) If WVU scores 70 points or more under Huggins, they are undefeated or close to it. When they score less, his winning percentage drops dramatically. (ESPNU)

OSU comes in red hot with the possible player of the year Evan Turner getting back to form. WVU limps into the contest losing 3 of its last 6 games.

It appears inconsistant guard play has been the downfall for WVU, an area where OSU can challenge the Mountaineers and create problems.

With Kevin Turner, E.T., The Extra Turnestrial back I think tOSU has a chance to steal one on the road.

Can we add a poll to this tread?

Maybe close to it but definitely not undefeated when scoring 70 or more under Huggins as they lost to Syracuse last Saturday 72-71.

Inconsistent everything has been the downfall of WVU. Kevin Jones has been the only relatively consistent player on the team.

Our post defense has been terrible at best and that is where OSU is going to create problems.

Point? What does a perceived sense of class do for you?

Post defense is one thing WVU doesn't have to worry about. Ohio State doesn't have a single player that can play in the post.
  • Tiger2003
I think OSU pulls this out by 5 or less....I wouldn't be surprised to see WVU win this one...Should be a great game....
  • vball10set
tough venue to play at,and Huggins will have his kids geeked up to play this game...BUT- I like OSU by single digits--O H....
  • Writerbuckeye
The inside matchups are a mismatch in favor of WVU.

If Ohio State can somehow offset those in some way, they have a chance to win.

If not, this one could get ugly.
  • Laley23
If Devin Ebanks shows up and plays like the All-American he is/can be OSU is in trouble as they really dont have anyone that can stop him on defense (imo). Kevin Jones has been really solid, but his overall game isnt enough to carry WVU like Ebanks can. As Ebanks goes, so goes WVU.

For OSU, its really up to Turner. If he puts in the near triple double numbers he is averaging, OSU will put up a fight. If WVU is struggle and Turner does this, OSU wins.

In the end, I think Ebanks and Turner have good games meaning WVU pulls out the victory.

    WVU 68
    OSU 60
