Ohio State at WVU - 1/23

Damn it Diebler, you didn't have to shoot the three there. It's a 4 point game.

Ball game. Poor second half. Rebounding is what cost OSU this game in second half. Didn't expect to win this one to be honest. WVU is pretty darn good team.

Thad Matta got out-coached the second half, and you can take that to the bank. How many three's does WVU have to hit before you realize the zone isn't working like it was in the first half? A coach should never just ride it out and hope that they'll start missing their shots again. Mix it up, go man a couple possessions then go back to a zone, and then a different zone if need be. Get them out of their rhythm.

Also, i've never been a "Diebler hater" so to speak, but that guy, IMO, just isn't very good. He's a hell of a shooter, i'll give him that, but oher than that, what does he bring? Average ball handler at best, can't create his own shot, average passer at best, and good lord this kid can't play D for the life of him. It's evident he just doesn't take pride in his defense. Countless times I just watched him stand there on the back side as WVU players were crashing boards. I'm not sure if I saw him box out somebody on the backside this entire game. If you're gonna go zone, get somebody on the wings that can crash. Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing PJ Hill or Simmons out at the top and move Turner to one of the wings, and get Diebler the hell out of there. What he brings on the offensive end, which isn't much, doesn't make up for what he lacks on the defensive end.

One last note, was it just me, or did anyone else think WVU was chanting "Fuck you Turner"?

OSU was one of the hottest teams in the country. Very good win for WVU and nice OOC win for the Big East.

SHut up you dolt. Huggins is doing NOTHING differently. His players are stepping up, and OSU is stepping back. Thats the only difference. Butler is a big time player, and he is showing it this half.
    What adjustments did Huggins make?
    Are you fucking retarded?

They've put a man on the high post, which has cleared the baseline for the cutters running underneath. And the man on the high post comes out to set up a screen on the perimeter every time.

In the first half, they had the man down low setting screens for the cutter coming across on the baseline. But OSU was doing a decent job of evading that screen. It looked a lot like what Purdue did to us..but OSu defended it a little better this time around.

The announcers have been marveling about Huggins' adjustments the entire 2nd half.

Of course, you probably have the TV muted because you'd rather listen to yourself.
Actually, I am not what you said. And you are one of the most CLASSLESS INDIVIDUALS to use that term.

And you are WRONG. Huggins was in FACT doing the SAMETHING in the first half.
Put the bottle down and try to become a student of the game sometime.

LOL...here we go with the Matta got outcoached crap. LOL Clueles.
Players play the game. WVU outplayed OSU in the second half, and absolutely dominated the boards. That was the difference. And that wasn't a coaching adjustment. It was a player's adjustment as far as the effort WVU put forth in the second half.

I've never been one to preach at people about showing class, but that was pretty classless, IMO.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda. Even with a 12pt lead, I wasn't overconfident. WVU is good.

They were and then the announcers commented about how great the atmosphere was.

I think the classless chants were effective. How many free throws did Turner miss down the stretch?

If you can't realize Matta got outcoached then you're fucking blind. Matta stuck with the same game plan in the second half as he did the first. I wasn't in the locker-room and neither were you, but I can guarantee Huggins is to good of a coach not to make adjustments against that zone. Sure his players stepped up some, but i'm sure that had something to do with the fact that he put them in the proper position to be able to step up. When a coach makes an adjustment against what you're doing, and it's working, you make a counter-adjustment, to stop that. Matta didn't. End of story.

BTW, OSU was outrebounded today, 34-23. 12 of those were offensive rebounds. Not sure how many of those resulted in put back buckets, but at the very least, it was half, which accounts for 12pts. Which, was the DIFFERENCE in this game. It wasn't any kind of coaching adjustment! lol Flat out stupid just looking to point the finger at the coach. WVU did nothing different then they did in the first half. They just went to the boards harder, and OSU didn't. Simple as that.

I don't think they effected Turner much at all. He's only like somewhere around a 75% free throw shooter to begin with, give or take a few percentage points. If they were going to chant at Turner, i'm sure they could have came up with something better than that. I mean, this isn't UNC chanting at JJ Redick or something. It's WVU vs. OSU.

I'm fine with the chants and encourage it more often.

Are they original? Not really. But it does give the Coliseum a reputation, classless or not, for being a tough place to play.

Terrible second half. That said, I wasn't really expecting to win this one.

Should win the next 4 games at least, and probably the next 5. Great opportunity to get back on track.

Would it not to be the coaches job to sub in a player or to put players in different positions in the zone to negate WVU's offensive rebounding? That, good sir, is called an adjustment. Matta didn't make one. And i'm not saying Matta should be fired or anything, but in this particular game, he got out-coached.

They should of buried them by 20-25 right then and didnt.
Easier said then done. You don't easily bury a team like WVU playing on their homecourt. The key was the start of the second half. OSU came out flat, and WVU outscored OSU 12-2 to get right back in it. I knew OSU was in trouble at that point.

Uh...who exactly was Matta going to put in the game? He has NO bench, period. It is what it is. You want Madsen in the game vs those athletes? LOL And you don't just move players around to different positions after you have practiced for 3 days for preparations. Game "adjustments" are often overrated. Its all about preperation leading up to the game in your practices. You can X and O all you want.....bottom line is this....WVU is the BETTER team. That is fact, and it showed.

The game was at WVU. Why is anyone surprised about fans chanting obsenities? It is after all, West Virginia!! Best of all, WVU fans on here saying they dont have a problem with it.

No, you get Diebler the fuck out of there, put Simmons or PJ Hill at the top, and move Turner to the wing. Or you switch into a different zone, say a 3-2. Or go straight up man a couple possessions. You can't allow a team to get into a rhythm and then just let them keep maintaining that rhythm. You've got to do something to get them out of it.
  • I drain 3's
Don't just move players around? This is Division 1 basketball at the highest level. If you can't or don't know what to do in a zone, then you should have your scholarship revoked.
