2017 OSU Football Discussion

Ironman92I'm ready for Joe. I pray for a new OC, an improved line and greatly developed receivers.

slingshot4everJT is our starter unless he transfers. Interested to see how many on D decide to enter the draft early
-
wildcats20Raekwon, Hooker, Lattimore, Conley, Lewis will all be gone. Hubbard will be back, per his tweet. But I don't see any of those other guys coming back. No reason to.

Yeah hopefully don't lose too many to draft....but not worried about defensive side.slingshot4ever;1830698 wrote:JT is our starter unless he transfers. Interested to see how many on D decide to enter the draft early
I didn't say Joe was going to be the QB...just stating that I'm ready for Joe. Tired of the sideways shit. I know the line struggled but JT...I just don't see it. He isn't a very good passer period. Joe can make the Sunday passes. If it's the same OC and QB next year....it'll be the same in big games IMO. -

I agree with this. I'm not saying just bench JT. But I would like to see urban bring in another QB every now and then if it's clear JT can make the vertical throws.Ironman92;1830700 wrote:Yeah hopefully don't lose too many to draft....but not worried about defensive side.

Ironman92I would think Hooker's stock is about as high as it could get

mcburg93What happened to Jt from 2014 to now? He was so good in 2014 and now its like a complete different player. I know not having a line that can hold a block hurts as well. Maybe even the receivers are to blame since they cannot get open. Hope if he stays something gets worked out.
I have read that Haskens(sp) was tearing up our first team defense in a few practices. It sounds like he is going to be a good one. Burrows looked good in clean up duty. He throws a nice ball.
I am not to concerned with our defense. Our offense needs some work. New coordinators would help out tremendously. -

He receivers were getting open last night, JT just missed them on a lot of throws.mcburg93;1830706 wrote:What happened to Jt from 2014 to now? The way it's been sounding, Haskins may be next man up...really soon. Lot of praise from coaches and players the last few weeks.Ironman92;1830700 wrote:Yeah hopefully don't lose too many to draft....but not worried about defensive side.

Give me a new OC, new WR coach and a set of REAL WR...not athletes who are trying to learn the position -

I agree with this, sort of. First half JT actually looked pretty good. Was 8-12 at 1 point with 2 drops. The 2nd half though was ALL on JT. Overthrows and underthrows galoreSportsAndLady;1830709 wrote:He receivers were getting open last night, JT just missed them on a lot of throws. -

ironman02JT does seem to have regressed as a passer. He had a lot of things working against him this year though. The offensive line has been atrocious in pass pro against good D-lines, so he has happy feet. His receiving corps has been pretty sub par for most of the season as well. His main problems, though, in my opinion are Tim Beck and Ed Warriner. I don't think it's a coincidence that JT has struggled since Beck began coaching the QBs. Beck can recruit well, but he apparently can't coach QBs or help call plays. Warriner has been pretty awful as the OC as well. Seems like he needs to go back to being an O-line coach exclusively. That said, Urban Meyer is ultimately responsible for his offensive staff and for developing an offensive game plan. He has done a piss poor job the last two seasons and Ohio State has looked awful offensively with an immense amount of talent at the skill positions. Obviously I'm no football coach, but that's my opinion, and I don't think it's far from the truth.
Now, despite that, Ohio State is 61-6 since Urban came to Columbus, and they're recruiting better than ever. There's gonna be a spectacular recruiting class coming in next season that should start to address the needs at WR and help replace the losses in the secondary. I don't see JT leaving unless he just wants out for some reason, so I imagine he'll be the starter. If he does end up leaving, it'll be a close battle between Burrow and Haskins, and I like them both as passers. The offense should return basically everyone outside of Elflein and probably Samuel. Defensively, there will be some key losses, but I really like the young talent on that side of the ball. If Meyer and his staff can put together a competent offensive game plan next season, they should be one of the best teams in the country. -

Wholesale staff changes are never advised — and, really, who are we to question Meyer? — but Ohio State can’t risk keeping the status quo. At the least, Meyer should move on from co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tim Beck.
Beck came to Ohio State last year after four seasons as the offensive coordinator at Nebraska, where his teams never threw well and quarterback Taylor Martinez failed to develop as anticipated. The Huskers’ passing offenses in those years ranked 104th, 91st, 97th and 82nd nationally.
We’ve seen the same pattern at Ohio State.
Although there are many factors — including the protection and the receivers’ lack of development — Barrett’s confidence as a passer has clearly frayed since his record-setting 2014 season under the instruction of Tom Herman, his QB rating falling from second in the country as a redshirt freshman to 55th as a junior this season. For as much as Meyer preaches balance, the Buckeyes’ passing game ranked 100th and 82nd the past two years. -

As do I. Never been high on Beck and the results show. When you get a shit-ton of 4- and 5-star guys and they're performing at this level and injuries aren't the (main, at least) reason for that, the onus falls on coaching.vball10set;1830849 wrote:just a local OSU beat writer expressing his opinion, but I tend to agree with it...

Conley and Lattimore will probably follow soon. OSU is putting DBs in the NFL at a crazy rate. -

What did you want him to say when he was asked? Everyone with half a brain knew that he was pretty much gone. Just waited until after the season to announce. He's making the right choiceslingshot4ever;1830903 wrote:Yah, he is a liar...moving on
