Maybe...but this is the most attention they have ever gotten. I bet alumni donations are through the roof. He is the best thing that has happened to that school in years. They didn't bitch about cashing the Cotton Bowl check last year.

I doubt he cares much about what TAMU thinks either. He is gone to the NFL after this year if he has a season similar to last year.

Yeah the only thing it seems A&M told him not to do was break NCAA rules.

    I hear that.

SportsCenter ‏@SportsCenter 8m “He ate Skittles, drank beer and won the Heisman.” - Johnny Manziel’s father Paul, to @ESPNMag, on his son's historic freshman season.

Manzier's old man must be a genius.

Apparently he is a very wealthy guy, doesn't make him a genius. Or a good father. My aTm friends are absolutely sick of the whole situation. I see Sumlin reeling in the whole group very shortly.

I'm sure he will, but he has something a little more serious to deal with right now...RIP, young man.

You missed my point...to say what he did to ESPN Mag makes him an idiot.

I got your point just fine - hence my post that he most certainly isn't a genius. The Manziel 3-ring circus makes the entire family look like idiots. And there is no way in hell this guy is even close to NFL ready.

Manziel's upcoming season is likely going to be a complete train wreck. As has been said on this thread, defenses won't be caught offguard by him. That and the fact that he's apparantly not taking football serious these days. If this is in fact how it goes down, I predict he will become increasingly frustrated with media questins about said letdown. It will all culminate in a Ryan Leaf-esque meltdown in the locker room after a tought A&M loss. (i.e. "DON'T TALK TO ME ALRIGHT!!!! JUST CUT IT OUT!!!!")

Both his parents believe he won't return for another season in College Station, and until he leaves, they can give love and support and pray that Johnny Football doesn't completely devour Johnathan Manziel.
"Yeah," Paul Manziel says one evening, driving in his car, "it could come unraveled. And when it does, it's gonna be bad. Real bad."
He imagines a late-night call, and the cable news ticker, and the next morning's headlines.
"It's one night away from the phone ringing," he says, "and he's in jail. And you know what he's gonna say? 'It's better than all the pressure I've been under. This is better than that.'"

Can you imagine what it woulda been like sitting next to these rich pricks back when this dillweed was playing HS football in Bugtussle TX?
  • se-alum
Yea, the Manziel's are basically making this a "Poor Johnny" story, blaming all of this on the Heisman Trophy.

His Dad does seem like the main problem...a rich oil industry inheritance that never had to work and it is rubbing off on his son. Back to the point, I know a LOT of people in Texas, and many UT and aTm grads and business people in Dallas and Houston. I have yet to hear one positive thing about JM. Most of it is more sympathetic, he isn't just immature for a 19 year old, he's immature for a 14 year old.

I'm glad OSU doesn't have to deal with this.

How long has it been since you were in college? Manziel acts like dumb college frat boy. There are thousands of kids just like him all over the country. The only difference is that they didnt win the Heisman. Manziel needs to grow up, but let's not pretend like this behavior is unique to only him
  • Manhattan Buckeye
I was a dumb college frat boy. This guy is a dumb rich kid that frat boys at his own college hate. That's the difference.

He's a disaster waiting to happen. It isn't just a case of pure immaturity, it is a case of exceptional immaturity.
  • friendfromlowry
I honestly don't think he acts a whole lot different than many other 20yo college sophomores. The question is whether he should act differently. He took college football by surprise last season, and as many have said, it's going to be a lot more difficult this season. You just know that if this season is any more mediocre, everyone (read as: ESPN) is going to be waiting to say "Well he should have been practicing instead of partying!!..." and that will certainly become annoying quickly. He does act like a dbag on Twitter, though.

I don't care about all the stupid "frat boy" stuff he does, but when you are invited by the Mannings to work at their camp, then refuse to fulfill your obligation, I have a big problem with that. You can be a dumb college kid and still be responsible when the time calls for it.

I agree, and I believe the responsibility gene is fostered at home. The kid has led an entitled life, and it's coming back to bite him in the ass. Crash...and...burn.

The behavior is unique to him because he is in a unique situation. He isnt "your average college frat boy" by his choice, and he needs to stop acting like it. How many previous Heisman winners have acted this way?

Oh wise sage, you know current frat boys at A&M????

I've heard it all now from MB
  • Manhattan Buckeye
No, I know donors. And they are sick of JM's and his family's antics.

That isn't a controversial opinion. The guy is a douchebag - and I don't want to rub it in to a young player that is incredibly immature. As much as I dislike ESPN the Magazine they wouldn't release a story like this unless they had much more to go on, and my sources certainly have much more from his high school years.

No sh*t older and affluent people are sick of his frat boy antics...

But you said frat boys at his own college hate him, and while I have no idea if that's true or not, I know that you certainly have no idea.

    Great point. Reps.
