Manziel's family is OIL rich, why in the hell is he selling autographs? Kid thinks he's bigger than the system... ala Mo Clarrett
Assuming that he did make a deal to sign autographs for $$ this is why. Reps.

Totally agree with this. I like what Jay Bilas said about all this.

    http://www.businessinsider.com/jay-bilas-destroys-ncaa-johnny-manziel-scandal-2013-8

Or to just get to the only part of that link that really matters (ie: his comment and the lead-in to it):
But that's a sham, Bilas says, because regular students aren't barred from capitalizing on college sports, only players are.

The kid sitting next to Johnny Manziel in class can profit off of Johnny Manziel, but Johnny Manziel can't.
    Bilas' entire explanation:

"[The NCAA says] they’re a student like any other student. They’re a student first who just happens to be an athlete. They’re to be treated like any other student. Well the truth is the college athlete is the only person in a multi-billion business, the only student on campus, who is restricted in any way. No other person is told, 'You get expenses only, and they are just expenses that are incidental to this multi-billion business.' If the money keeps going up and it gets into the billions and goes higher, the tension between amateurism and the commercial-professional enterprise of college sports is going to continue to grow and we’re going to continue to have these kinds of issues."

Which is the ridiculous part. They aren't, we all know it. I'm not sure why people have to keep playing this game of pretend.

This isn't a debate on the NCAA rules...I think most would agree they are a corrupt, self-serving and egotistical entity.

I been one this whole time saying everyone needs to back off Johnny. Kids will be kids type of this. This time I can't. If true, this is so stupid. Your family has money, you have big money coming...don't sell autographs. Pretty simple.

Manziel's silence on this memorabilia matter is deafening...he, and aTm, are in trouble--big time.

Well as some articles point out, A&M's silence is just as bad as they are saying their policy is to not comment, even though previously they have commented when regarding Manziel and autographs.

The have retained the attorney who represented Newton and Auburn. We all know how that turned out. Player played and national championship won.

A&M is sponsored by Adidas so Johnny is screwed. He ends up heading to Canada.

If Johnny would have been the Oregon Ducks QB nothing would have happened to him.

Still believe if Tressel tells truth from get go, he's still OSU's coach today and Pryor and company only receive a few game suspension. Just my OP!
If he got 5 figures, like reported, he will be done.

I he got 5 figures he potentially has more than an NCAA issue, but an IRS issue.

Here is why the little shit will skate. Unlike the Tat 5 the punk had the sense to do his dirty work alone with no witnesses of actually taking money. It makes me absolutely sick to my stomach he's going to walk away on this but hopefully Karma comes calling under the name Bama on Sept 14.

LOL, sick to your stomach? You actually care THAT much?

If he sold autographs on eBay, got paid online (by Paypal) all he'd have to do is fill out the 1099K form provided by Paypal.
If he was paid cash by some shady broker....it maybe harder to prove.

ESPN is reporting there is video of Manziel signing, Broker claims he was paid $7,500.
  • Fly4Fun
Originally I thought this might be something that went away like Cam Newton's scandal just disappeared.

This article however really makes this more interesting.

    http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/9544137/broker-says-johnny-manziel-took-7500-autographing-helmets
An East Coast autograph broker told ESPN on Tuesday that Johnny Manziel was paid $7,500 for signing approximately 300 mini- and full-sized helmets on Jan. 11 and 12 while he was attending the Walter Camp Football Foundation event in January.
The broker said the videos, approximately nine minutes in length in total, were initially shot only to be used as proof with authenticating company PSA/DNA.
The next couple are what an ESPN person saw/heard while watching the video.
ESPN heard Manziel say "you never did a signing with me" and that if the broker were to tell anyone, he would refuse to deal with him again in the future. Manziel, who appeared comfortable throughout the video recordings, also said if asked, he would say he had simply been approached by various autograph seekers.
At one point, ESPN heard a broker ask Manziel if he would take additional cash to sign with special inscriptions, but Manziel declined, indicating he had done that before and it led to questions. The video does not show Manziel accepting cash, which the broker alleges happened three times.
This quote suggests this wasn't his first rodeo and he may have deceived the NCAA before with lying about autographs, this could be something he can just give back the money for and only miss a game or two.
[The broker] also said that Manziel's friend and personal assistant -- Nate Fitch- - was not present or involved in the alleged transactions.
Although at the end of the article the Broker does say that he does not intend to cooperate with the NCAA. But seeing as he was trying to sell the video to ESPN it sounds as if he's just looking to cash this in before giving it away.

Yeah I don't know why these athletes just don't sign things and then have their buddies sell it online and then give them like 20% of the cut while keeping the rest. Sounds like an easy way to make a ton of cash

Because a gift from your buddy or anyone outside your immediate family for more then $50 is considered a violation...
Though I guess he could just give him lots of $50 gifts. ..

But these guys are stupid, and often their friends are even more stupid, and even if they aren't stupid they don't know if the person that is funding is "friendly" or not. It is like the movie "Office Space", if money laundering was easy everyone would do it. It isn't easy not to leave a paper trail, and even more important it isn't easy to pick out a "partner" that is trustworthy. Typically people willing to break the law or bend rules aren't.

And if he's willing to cash in with ESPN, what are the odds he's doing it now with the Manziel family (i.e. extortion)?
  • Tiernan
ESPN reporting Manzier told the broker he wanted the money for "...a new set of rims." I thought Manzier was a white kid.

Incarcerated Bob (so its probably just shit thrown against the wall) said manziel will be suspended at least 2 games.
  • Tiernan
Bob has nailed some big scoops in the past so lets hope he's on target here too. 2 game suspension = bye bye Heisman no matter what he does the other 10 games.
