College Basketball Random Chatter 2013-2014 Season

Oklahoma State will need to split its last two against K-State and Iowa State to be in good position for an invite. A team should not be rewarded for finishing two games below .500 in their conference. I just don't see how a team can lose seven games in a row in February while finishing 7-9 in conference play and still go to the NCAAs.

With another win, though, then I could easily see them getting in.
    They're a lock IMO.

A team sitting at 7-9 in conference that lost seven games in a row in February is far from a lock in my view. If Oklahoma State goes 7-11 in the Big XII, they are on the outside looking in. If they got in, it'd be a complete joke.

I agree, far from a lock..yet. Even Lunardi said as much yesterday prior to the game. I believe he said they needed to win at least 2 more games to get in. Game day was showing some bubble teams and all were very even.

No talk about the biggest upset of yesterday? South Carolina taking down the greatest recruiting class of all time in Kentucky. SC is a terrible team, last in SEC. UK just lost second straight game. They are headed in the wrong direction, big time. Going to be curious where they will end up being seeded come NCAA.

I was too disappointed to bring it up last night. They've just got no heart. Honestly look pretty similar to OSU, effort-wise.

They've still got a tough home game vs Alabama and Florida on the road, too. I could see them as low as an 8 or 9 depending on how things shake out.

I have to disagree with this. OSU has the heart and gives the effort, they just don't have the talent (ie shooters). Kentucky has the talent, but like you said, they haven't shown the heart. Big difference.

I've almost broken stuff this week.

The last 12 minutes of the game last night, UK dominated South Carolina. Problem is, they got down 50-32. Absolutely pathetic.

I'm not exactly shaken up when Kentucky loses, but I'd have preferred the Wildcats to finish the season out stronger than they have. If UK gets anywhere from a 7 to 9 seed, whichever region they're in is the one I hope my team is not. As a six seed or higher, UK would be eligible for placement in Florida's bracket in the South (as long as they didn't meet prior to the Elite Eight). Duke is currently predicted as the two seed in that region. I wonder whom the committee would choose as their seven seed down there...

No matter where they go, with its sheer talent alone, Kentucky would present a nightmare 7, 8 or 9 seed.

UK could obviously beat anyone in the country...but they could also lose to just about anyone after the first round as well. The fear factor is now not there for teams. And their confidence is not obviously there either. Right now, at best this team is sweet 16. As we all know, much depends on matchups in the NCAA.

Regardless of whether the "fear factor" is still there or not, as a one or two seed, I'd much rather face Kansas State or George Washington in the second round than Kentucky.

UK if they can't get up to the #5....they'll be an #8

I agree with this. An 8 UK vs. 1 (Arizona, Kansas, Duke, Insert Big Name Here) second round matchup would be too much for the committee to pass up.

Will be interested to revisit this discussion in about two weeks.

And UNC in that 4/5 slot would make them happy as well.

Ohio State vs Kentucky in the 8/9 game, the winner plays Wichita State. Games in St. Louis, MO.

Carolina will be in Kansas's bracket. But you know, the committee doesn't look at things like that.

lol, I jokingly told my best friend who is a huge UK fan that would be the exact scenario. I think Ohio State will play Kentucky or Xavier in the first round just depending on where they rank them. If Ohio State loses the next 2 wouldn't be surprised to see a 5-12 or 6-11 involving UC either.

Wichita St cannot go undefeated, can they?
I guess I never thought of a school from a non power conference to topped IU's undefeated season, but it does make sense as if you can get a really, really good team you can go through the regular season nut roll easier than if you were in a big conference.

    Interesting take on UK/Calipari

Especially this bit at the end.
Q: Did you know that the two Kentucky teams relying solely on your recruits as the major contributors are last year and this year? And that their record is 42-20, 23-11 in the SEC, with an NIT berth and four losses to teams ranked outside the Ken Pomeroy top 100?

Q: Did you know that your first three teams at Kentucky all had veteran players recruited by previous coaches in key roles? Those teams went a combined 102-14, 40-18 in the Southeastern Conference, with two SEC titles, two SEC tournament titles, two Final Four appearances and a national title.

    Funny shit right there!
Shows you just cannot recruit stuperstars in basketball to fill the roster and expect to win. You need some sort of veteran leadership and role players to shovel shit.

There's no doubt Cal's biggest problem has been keeping players around.

To his credit, he got Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb to stay, and they netted a title. It will be hard to argue against that.
