College Basketball Random Chatter 2013-2014 Season
-
HereticI don't really follow Okie State, but from the beginning of the season, haven't they lost a player or two to being kicked off the team or grades or something like that?
My question would be how many guys did they lose permanently and at what point did they depart? If they've gone virtually all the season with the current group (not counting Smart's 3-game suspension), it's one thing; but if they were full strength back when they were consistently winning and being ranked and then, after the departing, fell apart, that could be held against them by the committee unless they finish really strongly. -
reclegend22Arizona destroying a quality NCAA team in California tonight, up 53 to 33 with 15 minutes to play in Tucson. The Bears, of course, gave the Wildcats their first loss after the injury to Brandon Ashley.
Bill Waltonism: "And the fans starting the "Zew" chant for Tarcsewski, 21 years old. What a man, what a stud, what a force. Happy birthday, Caleb. Congratulations." -

So glad you mentioned this. Turned on the game solely to hear Bill Walton. I need to find out if there is a twitter account that only tweets alerts for when Bill Walton is calling a game.reclegend22;1585074 wrote:Arizona destroying a quality NCAA team in California tonight, up 53 to 33 with 15 minutes to play in Tucson. Just look for a PAC 12 game on espn2 at night lolTerry_Tate;1585083 wrote:So glad you mentioned this. Turned on the game solely to hear Bill Walton. I need to find out if there is a twitter account that only tweets alerts for when Bill Walton is calling a game. -
Terry_TateWhen talking about Saluimon averaging a double double but not being consistent BIll just said this: "I was reading about Bruce Lee the other day. And Bruce was saying it's not about the increase, it's about the decrease. You have to keep hacking away at the decrease and get rid of the unessential."
What the fuck does that mean? Lol -
reclegend22Another great Walton line tonight: "A feat more unbelievable than solving the Rubik's Cube blindfolded, Cal is back in this game." That was after Cal momentarily got within 8 points.
The best color man ever. Period. -

I dont know the answer to that. But, Fake Bill Walton is funny.Terry_Tate;1585083 wrote:So glad you mentioned this. Turned on the game solely to hear Bill Walton. I need to find out if there is a twitter account that only tweets alerts for when Bill Walton is calling a game. -

lhslep134Back to back blowout wins over Colorado and Cal.
We'll never get back to how well we were playing pre-Ashley injury but we've added wrinkles to be a little better on offense.
We're running more and pushing the fast break after baskets; Zeus is taking shots from outside the paint (baseline or 15 footer) to help spread the floor; Pitts is getting playing time and playing well.
Should still easily be a #1 seed, and we'll see what happens from there. -
reclegend22Even with Ashley, Arizona wasn't really beating conference teams in this fashion. They beat Arizona State and USC by 20+, but other than that, really no large-margin victories. While I agree that Arizona is better with Ashley -- that's not even disputable -- the Wildcats don't appear too far off their earlier pace right now. Sean Miller has his team clicking really well and the Cats are playing lights out defense.
Florida and Arizona are still 1A and 1B, respectively, right now IMO. -

Upon further review, lhslep never actually said this. Haha. I misread his post.reclegend22;1585345 wrote: as lhselp said, the Cats are playing lights out defense.
But Arizona is playing great defense right now. The major concern with this team, however, will be depth. -
reclegend22Arkansas playing tough at Kentucky tonight. Hogs up 29-17 late in the first half.
After losing four of five after beating Kentucky in Fayetteville back in early January, Arkansas has turned its season around at just the right time with a 5-1 record in February. At 18-9 and 7-7 in the SEC, Mike Anderson's group desperately needs this victory. -
SportsAndLadyUK gets so many fucking calls at Rupp..it's ridiculous

MulvaI had to change the channel. Couldn't listen to Bob Knight predict free throws anymore.
-
reclegend22He was wrong on almost every prediction, too. Haha. I still enjoy listening to his keen insight into the game, but Knight's overall ability as a broadcaster has slipped considerably in the past couple of years. He's just getting old and somewhat detached.
Arkansas beats UK for a second time in OT and keeps hopes of an NCAA birth alive. Will still need a run in the SEC Tournament for a chance. -
Ironman92That win bumps them in with Lunardi

Interesting. Before the game tonight, Lunardi had Arkansas in neither his First Four Out nor Next Four Out.Ironman92;1585469 wrote:That win bumps them in with Lunardi
Hogs now have victories over SMU, Minnesota and Kentucky (twice). Being Arkansas we're talking about, it wouldn't surprise me if they drop a couple of more games they shouldn't and fall right back on the bubble. -
Laley23As for Knight, the guy is awful behind the mic. I can't stand to listen to him.
-
reclegend22In terms of style and delivery, Knight is not very pleasant to listen to at this stage of his life -- he sounds like he's dead -- but I still enjoy listening to him to an extent because he does his job as a color man and actually analyzes the various nuances of the game. There aren't very many announcers who do this, at least well.
He needs to do a bump of Adderall before he goes on air or something. -
Heretic
I think because the bubble is so loaded with those kind of decent, but not really good teams, any time one of them has a good win, it catapults them into the Last Four In mix and anytime one of them has a bad loss, it plummets them. Right now, it's kind of fun to watch the bubble because it seems to fluctuate so crazy after every night because all of these teams seem to be only predictable in their unpredictability.reclegend22;1585474 wrote:Interesting. MulvaSt. Louis with a head scratcher of a home loss to Duquesne. Really hurts their shot at a top 4 seed.
-
reclegend22
I agree with this. Just look at the bubble teams in the SEC alone. Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri and LSU are all sitting in almost identical positions (with Arkansas owning the slight edge right now on the heels of tonight's win at UK). There are a lot of mediocre teams out there still fighting for a spot. Evidence that further expansion of the tournament is a bad idea all around. I wonder what Jim Boeheim's thoughts are on that this year? Being that he's in the running for a top seed, I doubt he cares.Heretic;1585486 wrote:I think because the bubble is so loaded with those kind of decent, but not really good teams, any time one of them has a good win, it catapults them into the Last Four In mix and anytime one of them has a bad loss, it plummets them. sportswizuhrdA combination of bad refs and dumb defense to allow clutch shots is really killing Oregon. UCLA playing well without Anderson and Adams.
Anyone still watching?
