College Basketball Random Chatter 2013-2014 Season

Laley23Might as well start this thread.
ACC/B1G pairings to be released at 2pm.
Word out of IU is they have draw Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. That should be a lose, but that should also be an unreal atmosphere. I cant imagine it wont be the most attended game of this challenges history.
I know we started talkign about schedules and top teams for next year on the other thread, but might as well just post it here and get this thread going. -

Azubuike24Wisconsin at Virginia
Hopefully they are able to pass "college basketball game" as a new form of execution method in the state of Virginia by November.
Gotta love the Michigan/Duke, North Carolina/Michigan State and Indiana/Syracuse games. Same with Ohio State/Maryland, Notre Dame/Iowa and Penn State/Pittsburgh. All with the potential to be solid.
Some of them are pretty bad though. -
ironman02I think this is the 5th time that Carolina and MSU will have played in the ACC/B1G challenge. They've had at least a couple other meetings in the NCAAs, Final Four, and/or National Title game. Seems like they play every year.
Carolina will play Kentucky, MSU, and probably Louisville, since they're in a small tournament together near the beginning of the season, all before mid-December. Non-conference games against Texas and Belmont as well, which are interesting. -
SportsAndLadyWhy would they match osu with Maryland? Aren't they moving to the B1G the year after?
-
Laley23
Yes. But Maryland had to be matched with someone. They bottom 3 in RPI are dropped the following year. Maryland obviously was better than Wake, VT and Clemson.SportsAndLady;1440492 wrote:Why would they match osu with Maryland? Aren't they moving to the B1G the year after?
Still interesting. OSU shouldve drawn a better team. Or at least send them to Maryland for the chance of a better game. Of course, ACC pretty much hates Maryland as evidenced by the schedule (home vs away) this year. So not a real shocker lol. -
Azubuike24Greg Whittington returning to Georgetown.
He was actually their leading scorer, and when he was expended, Otto Porter took off. -

Didn't Will Graves get kicked off for drug issues? -

wildcats20Spectacular.
-
Tiger2003Yah it's all over the news down here in Carolina.
-
wildcats20Surprisingly there isn't much talk on Twitter about it, that I can see at least.
I did see that he most likely won't be suspended or miss any games. -

Looks like Hairston won't miss any practices or games, which is surprising to me. Really dumb move, no matter what the circumstances end up being. -
Azubuike24Weed, I think we can all give him a pass on that. However, the really dumb part is knowing you have it on you and still driving without a license, whe 2 other people were also in the vehicle. Maybe they don't have a license either...but still, they aren't UNC basketball players.
-
ironman02I have heard conflicting reports.
Does he not have a license at all, or didn't have it with him? -
ironman02Being reported by a Durham news station that a gun was found outside the car. Looks like one of them tossed it when they were stopped.
Damn it, PJ!! This isn't gonna end well. -
Tiger20032014 SG D'Angelo Russell commits to Ohio State!!! This is a huge get for Thad and the Buckeyes!!
Sorry wrong thread you can delete it. -
Midstate01Big big get
-
Azubuike24I can't even fathom the hate there would be if this was a John Calipari recruit or player in P.J. Hairston's shoes. The details of this situation...SMH.
-
ironman02The latest story on the Big Lead is a joke. UNC has not received a letter of inquiry from the NCAA about Hairston's relationship with Blackstock. They're cooperating with a larger investigation into Blackstock after the McClemore stuff at Kansas.
http://www.newsobserver.com/2013/06/21/2980807/ncaa-investigating-link-between.html
That's not to say that there couldn't be something there, but the article written today was complete bullshit with a bunch of unsubstantiated accusations.
All of that said, Hairston's recent situation is just insanely stupid on his part, and if he somehow gets out of this with minimal damage, he's extremely lucky.
And not to be a dick, but Calipari's reputation leads to a lot of the scrutiny that he gets. Whether he knew of the things that happened with Camby and Rose, he's guilty by association. North Carolina's basketball program is going through something similar right now as well. It hasn't been proven that the basketball program did anything wrong with regard to the academic scandal, but they're guilty in most people's eyes. The same can be said about the Hairston situation. Everyone believes the worst, even though all the facts and circumstances haven't been released. -
Azubuike24I think it's blown out of proportion. I'm just saying. Perception. If this was a Calipari kid, it would be CNN type news.
And yes, I agree. However, the double-standard needs to be pointed out... -
SportsAndLady
No it doesn't lol Calipari cheated everywhere he went and was caught doing so. He gets and deserves everything that comes to him, whether fair or not.Azubuike24;1461380 wrote:I think it's blown out of proportion. I'm just saying. Perception. If this was a Calipari kid, it would be CNN type news.

Ding ding ding -
ironman02Haha. I don't know exactly what Calipari did or didn't do, and I really don't care. Obviously every fan is gonna take up for their coach, but I do think it's funny that many UK fans despised Calipari before he went to Lexington. He was a cheater, he had vacated two final fours, he was associated with World Wide Wes and so on. Now he's clean as a whistle and everyone else is dirty. Carolina basketball is a cheating program, basically the worst of the worst, despite the fact that they haven't been sanctioned or put on probation in the past unlike Kentucky.
This isn't actually directed at Azubuike, by the way. Just go take a look at the Kentucky boards and you'll see what I mean. Those guys are actively investigating Carolina, contacting the NCAA and trying to draw attention to anything Carolina-related. They're like a bunch of damn Wolfpack fans.
